Characteristics
The "Covenant" is, like most Star Destroyer's of its class, designed with deep space combat in mind. However, it is still capable of operating within planetary atmospheres. This duality allows for House Shar Dakhan to utilize their flagship as both a menace amongst the stars, and a destructive force raining death and legions upon the ground. With its complement of ion cannons and tractor beam projectors in lieu of previous models' concussion missile tubes, the "Covenant" is more than capable of engaging most other ships, and keeping them from taking leave of the battle. In addition to the increases in weaponry, Victory II-class Star Destroyers are equipped with Hoersch-Kessel Drive, Inc. engines that allow for higher sublight speeds and maneuverability, increasing the threat presented.
Capabilities
In practice, the Covenant is a versatile tool used to adapt as conditions require. Capable of transitioning from orbital encounters down to planetside, it is able to deliver Naga Sadow's impressive troop complement to the field of engagement as needed. It would be hazardous to think of the VSDII as merely a troop transport, as its more than capable armaments allow it to engage, quite effectively, with most similarly classed Destroyers and Frigates.
History
Much like its predecessor, won by Clan Naga Sadow in the Seventh Great Jedi War, this veteran warship has served many masters. Due to the legacy of the name, and the relative lack of outsider knowledge regarding its eventual fate, the original VSD's history always walks hand in hand with its latest incarnation.
The original Covenant served in the Defense of Sector Zero during the Clone Wars, built at the shipyards of Rendili StarDrive and initially christened the Corsai. It was eventually obtained by Clan Naga Sadow after the Seventh Great Jedi War. Serving alongside the Victory Flee, it first saw action against the Techno-Union's fleet of Bulwark-class Battle Cruisers that had escaped the blockade of Foerost. Years later, during the Battle of Hoth, the destroyer engaged fleeing Rebel forces whilst on patrol near Anoat. Before being decommissioned, the Corsair ended its service performing the role of planetary defense and system patrol. It was later sold by the Empire to make room for the more massive Imperial class of Star Destroyers.
During its new life in service of the Corporate Sector Authority, this ship was instrumental in repelling a ragtag group of corvettes and frigates. Though not a mighty force, the group of raiders possessed the tenacity to inflict grave damage upon the VSD while attempting to rescue their imprisoned operatives and loot the Mytus prison planet's station. Rather than receiving repairs, the once mighty ship languished in orbit being relegated to storage and other ignoble functions before finally serving as prison overflow quarters for low-security convicts.
A renegade group of Dark Jedi then attempted a takeover in the Mytus system nearly twenty-four years after the Battle of Yavin. The CSA requested help from the nearby Orian system with promises of payment, and operatives of Clan Naga Sadow swiftly arrived to crush the insurrection. As their reward, they demanded that the Victory-Class vessel be turned over to them. The battered CSA forces were in no shape to argue, and grudgingly turned the gutted ship over to the victorious Sadow forces and Consul Manesh Sadow. The ship was refitted and refurbished by the Dlarit Corporation. Her systems were modified and upgraded with modern parts and droids. She now serves as the Flagship of Clan Naga Sadow, having been re-christened VSD Covenant in honor of their agreement with CorSec.
Her new pristine condition was not to last as she took heavy damage during the Alien Incursion. Her crew was battered, assassins stalked the corridors, and fierce hand-to-hand battles took place. Several Aliens were captured and interrogated, allowing for some marginal knowledge that helped in the overall defense. The aging destroyer was battered by enemy coral skippers and capital ship analogs, including a memorable confrontation with the Heretic's Bane that was one of the few victories during the naval conflict.
The original commanding officer at this time was Captain Shivak, who was force-choked to death by Macron for cowardice. He was later replaced by Araic Simonetti, who masterfully guided the veteran ship to survival.
During the Invasion of Orian, the recently crippled Covenant faced off against the VSDII Dark Fusion. With fighter support from nearby Sepros as well as from Platform Obsidian and Platform Onyx, she emerged battered but victorious. Shortly thereafter, conflict once again gripped the Orian system, only this time the battle was fought internally. The competing Houses of Clan Naga Sadow engaged in combat over Inos, vying for control of a rumoured artifact that was little more than a ruse to allow for a "culling of the herd" within the Clan. At the onset of the conflict, they once more joined forces to repel the false Brotherhood.
Her story continued in orbit of New Tython, during its invasion. The simple extermination became all out war as Mandalorians joined the battle, leading to a long drawn out conflict that led to losses and damage on both sides. It was there that the original Covenant's story was to end, however, as it was decided that the costly repairs would be better served in the pursuit of forging the newer, Victory-II Class star destroyer that was finally claimed after the events of Horizons unfolded.
