―Independent House Revan

Revan Prospectus became the first Independent House to be created after an edict by Grand Master Muz Ashen reinstated the abandoned practice of founding Independent Houses within the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. It was formed in 30 ABY in the wake of the Ninth Great Jedi War by the enigmatic Raken, and Grand Master Sarin as well as several other founding members.

History

In the Shadow of Revan

Dark Lord of the Sith

Though the establishment of the powerful collective known as Revan occurred in the Dark Brotherhood's modern era, the events leading to its foundation predate the Brotherhood by some 4,000 years.

It was a time before the Obscuration, before the Shroud, and before the lineage of the Grand Masters. In the time of the Triumvirate, the first Star Chamber; Okemi, Tiamat, and Ferran, the Old Republic and Darth Revan, events unfolded that would impact not only the unborn Brotherhood and those who would unite under the banner of House Revan, but the very galaxy.

Unauthenticated texts allude to a visitor to the Antei System around the year 3,600 BBY. Thought to be the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, it is believed that this powerful caller to the system played a pivotal role in the Yuuzhan Vong's original survey of the region. Some have even speculated that this interaction with the Far Outsider's may have ultimately led to the Incursion of the Eighth Great Jedi War.

What that role was precisely has yet to be verified.

Regardless, this cascade of events led the Brotherhood to strife once more during the Ninth Great Jedi War, or what some called Unification. The direct result of that conflict brought about the perfect storm of events that led to the creation of one of the most powerful collectives in Dark Brotherhood history.

Unification

House Revan's modern origin was rooted in the final days of the Ninth Great Jedi War. Despite ultimately defeating the forces of the powerful Omancor Crask, Grand Master Sarin—like hundreds of his dark Jedi on Antei—was himself slain by the hand of the dichotomous Jedi Master. The war came to a close shortly after when Crask was betrayed and killed by his own disciple Rade. The vacant Iron Throne was quickly occupied by Sarin's Shadow Hand Muz Ashen as the Brotherhood destroyed what was left of Crask's deteriorating army.

Yuuzhan Vong Slayer sows destruction at Southern Command

The whispers of Lord Sarin's death were quickly drowned out by cries of victory however. There were some in the Dark Brotherhood's court though who suspected the newly enthroned Ashen of knowing more than he admitted regarding Sarin's demise. Whether Ashen turned some piece of information to his advantage or had an outright hand in the former Grand Master's fall was not said. At least not publicly.

Though victorious, the Brotherhood had suffered grievous casualties during the war including Sarin's Praetor Raken. The Elomin too had been felled by Crask's power on the plains of Antei. Though he survived the encounter, Raken's ability to touch the Force had been stripped of him. Force-blind and near death, Raken was evacuated to one of the Brotherhood's command posts where he was thought to have perished when the base was later destroyed by Yuuzhan Vong saboteurs.

And the Fallen Shall Rise

Unbeknown to the Brotherhood in general at the time, Lord Sarin's death was but a physical one. Slain by Crask, who was in-turn killed by Rade, Sarin's spirit was unleashed on the unsuspecting Jedi. In a dark whirlwind of energy, Sarin's will overcame the powerful young Jedi transferring his essence and claiming a new body for his own.

Rade became a prisoner in his own body as his will was suppressed by the Grand Master's feat. Possessed, Rade/Sarin fled the planet as the forces of the Iron Throne closed in on the battle site. Severely weakened by his transition, Sarin piloted Rade's small craft to an unspecified world where he could regather his strength and calculate his next move.

In the days following the Brotherhood's costly victory, Muz Ashen thought it prudent to honor his predecessor's sacrifice with a massive and austere tomb on Antei. Grand Master Sarin's body was enshrined at a temporary location while construction began nearby on the larger, permanent chamber.

While Muz consolidated his power and celebrated victory, not all in the Brotherhood shared the new Grand Master's enthusiasm. Though Sarin had led them to war and the edge of victory, it was Muz who inherited much of the ire and resentment as to the war's justification and cost despite its outcome. Amplified by the banal and destructive natures of several Dark Councilors and Clan Summits, these feelings soon grew toxic leading several powerful members to a new path within the aging power-scape of the Brotherhood.

Unrest

Thought dead, the once-Praetorian Raken re-emerged to a vastly altered landscape on Antei. The physical scars the world suffered from the war were small in measure compared with those earned in the political turmoil that had engulfed the Dark Hall. Having slowly recovered his connection to the Force with the aid of an unlikely ally, Raken learned of Sarin's death and the ensuing shift in power.

In the Keibatsu's rise to power Raken sensed treachery, but was scarcely in a position to do anything about it. Taking advantage of the unrest he felt amongst many powerful Equites and Elders he secretly began assembling a cabal of like-minded dark Jedi. As these forces assembled a loose collective unlike what the Brotherhood had known, their capability was immediately tested when a familiar presence reached out to them with a monumental task.

Though his body was dead, Sarin's spirit lived on contacting Raken and his coalescing network of operatives and Jedi from a remote planet. Lord Sarin very much wanted his former body returned to him and commanded that they see it done. Assembling a small group to recover the Grand Master's remains from temporary internment, Raken eventually succeeded in the task and rendezvoused with his former master and cohort.

A ritual of transference ensued binding Sarin's spirit once more with the desiccated flesh of his remains. Relatively restored, the pair sought a method of reversing their fortune that would see them back to the halls of power on Antei. Given their relatively weak position, the decision was made to execute their strategy from within the Brotherhood rather than an external attack. Like a virus, the concept was to spread throughout the Brotherhood eventually placing Raken and Sarin once again in line for the Iron Throne.

Under the Banner of Revan

A weathered standard bearing the House emblem

With Sarin left severely weakened from the transference, the taciturn but capable Raken would head the endeavor and petition the new Grand Master Muz Ashen for formal status as an Independent House. As the numbers increased of those rallying to the new banner, Raken and Sarin were able to return to Antei in a much stronger position and approach Muz with an offer of support in exchange for establishment of the House.

Muz, already keeping his enemies close sagely decided to keep his “friends” even closer and allowed the House to come into existence. At the time, he had more pressing matters demanding his attention and saw pacifying his former mentor and his abominable cohort with this small favor the most efficient solution.

Shortly after this accord, Independent House Revan was formally adopted into the Dark Brotherhood as the first Independent House in decades.

The Art of Vendetta

Independent House Revan has been extant for only one Brotherhood-wide Vendetta which it won in 32 ABY.

The Rite of Supremacy: Spoils of War

House Revan leaves its mark on the Rite

It would not be long before rumors of Revan's purported strength and cunning proved true and doubts as to their credibility were dispelled. When Grand Master Muz Ashen decided to once again force the Clans of the Brotherhood through a Rite of Supremacy few, if any, believed it would be possible for the nascent House to be successful let alone crush all opposition placed before it.

Yet it did just that.

Over the five weeks of campaign at Salas V, the new House's asymmetrical warfare tactics proved flexible and efficient dealing not only with the Killik threat, but the other rival Clans as well. Indeed, Revan's elusive cabal directly defeated the ancient and storied Clans of Tarentum, Naga Sadow, and Taldryan; and by proxy, the remaining elements of the Brotherhood who had already fallen.

Revan's focused campaign ultimately led to it being named Champion of the Rite of Supremacy: Spoils of War and First House of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood; a feat not seen in the decades since Independent House Ektrosis.

With its victory, Revan was awarded the rights to the embattled planet Salas V and several other undisclosed spoils.

To This Day

Revan currently continues to expand its influence throughout not only the Brotherhood, but the galaxy as well. Its own Aedile Grand Master Sarin has recently risen again to the highest echelons of power within the club as Deputy Grand Master.
