Facts
On October 3, 2023 Esbelta Teresa Amaral joined the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. On October 4, 2023 a second account was registered under the name Queen Esbelta Teresa Amaral.
While being researched by the Right Hand of Justice on October 5, 2023 two additional accounts were registered under Queen EsbeltaTeresa Amaral and Queen EsbeltaTeresaAmaral. The Right Hand of Justice then reached out to inquire about the nature of the clone account.
On October 14, 2023 a fifth account was registered under Queen EsbeltaTeresaAmaral. At this time, the fifth account was utilized to make 40 edits to the DJBWiki to the following DB and Clan controls pages (Ante, Arx System, Caelus System, Caperion, Caperion System, Cor’neria System, Coratua, Coratua System, Antei Nebula, Samur, Kih, Veridion, Calabrex, Andrion, Liren, Geroha, Antares Major, Geles, Dajorra).
Prior to this the Chamber of Justice, Councilors, Consuls, and others had observed several of Esbelta Teresa Amaral’s accounts modifying the default possessions granted to new members with different names.
The Grand Master was informed that Esbelta had escalated from modifying personal possessions to the DJBWiki. In order to preserve the security of the site, an Order of Advanced Incarceration was issued to prevent further vandalism to DJBWiki pages or other accessible club channels.
On October 15, 2023, the Appeals Panel reviewed the Order of Advanced Incarceration and in accordance to Cov. 7.08 ratified the Order as necessary.
On October 15, 2023 a sixth account was registered under Queen Esbelta Teresa Amaral. All six accounts utilized different email addresses that were a variation of the same name.
Throughout the month of October Esbelta Teresa Amaral failed to respond to any outreach attempts from numerous members of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood preventing further understanding of their intent.
Analysis
When is a clone not a clone? Probably when it’s a bot. Following a simple Google search of this person’s name “Esbelta Teresa Amaral” reveals several similar entries on multiple sites, including duplicate records on one site, utilizing the same name, picture, and different text that appears to be randomly generated via an AI program.
The behavior undertaken by this individual appeared to be testing to what extent they had control of the site as a logged in member.
While the onset behavior, creating of clone accounts and modifying personal possessions to have different names, had minimal impact. The escalation to the DJBWiki required immediate and severe action to protect the Brotherhood’s assets.
If not for this escalation of vandalism of the DJBWiki I would have been inclined for a lesser sentence whereby the accounts created after the original attempt would be removed and we would provide guidance to the member. While there is a requirement to reply to outreach by the Chamber, there is not such a requirement to engage with our community.
Given that this individual instead chose to begin defacing our DBJWiki and has, to date, refused to engage with us, a stricter handling of the situation is required for the protection of the Brotherhood.
Sentencing
In reviewing the positions of the Right and Left Hand of Justice a significant time was spent on were they a bot or an individual taking these actions. From a legal framework this is a question of malicious intent.
If it were a human, was this ‘childish’ behavior as the edits were minor in nature. Most often adding ‘my’ or ‘mine’ to the end of the page. Or, as a Bot, was it intentionally built to manipulate data for some unknown cause.
As I weighed their positions I came to a conclusion that in either situation, through the lack of engagement, there was no way of coaching, guiding, and preventing the behavior from recurring. In such a situation the only viable course was to remove the individual from being able to attempt the same actions in the future.
As such, I have convened an expulsion jury with the recommended sentence of expulsion of the individual. I regret that my first official act as Justicar is to deny someone access to our community. It is my desire that if they were to reach out in the future and explain their actions to the satisfaction of the leadership at that time that they may have a path to redemption.
