A Fistful of Credits is a feud that took place between Clan Plagueis and Clan Vizsla during the early months of 38 ABY. While Plagueis has deemed it the "Zsoldos Incursion," Vizsla remembers it fondly as "The Tragedy of Annoyance."
Prelude
Having fled Aliso space after her defeat during Code: Dread, the Zabrak Kel Zar had been banished from the Collective and was without resources. While Kel Zar was working to recover what resources she could, she encountered Laren Uscot, a former member of Clan Plagueis who shared her ill will towards the Clan. When the two discovered their shared ire, they decided to ally and began to formulate a strategy to eradicate their common enemy. One of the first steps they took was posting a bounty on Arden Karn, former Dread Lord of Clan Plagueis and current di Plagia.
Juur Gogh, a member of Clan Vizsla, was given the opportunity to carry out the bounty. The Mandalorian tracked Karn to Ord Mantell and attempted to assassinate the di Plagia. Karn, however, was able to avoid being killed and defeated Gogh, capturing the Mandalorian. In a transmission to Dread Lord Ronovi Tavisaen, Gogh was interrogated and implicated Clan Vizsla as the ones responsible for the bounty.
Furious, Tavisaen wasted no time in attempting to make contact with Clan Vizsla’s Consul, Declan Roark. When the two finally spoke, however, it did little to ease tensions. Roark made it clear that it was simply a matter of business, but Tavisaen couldn’t help but take it personally. With the Dread Lord’s emotional state inflamed even further, she decided to declare war. Contacting the Dreadbringer of Plagueis, Wrathus, she ordered him to use Opress Squadron to deal the opening blow of the conflict.
The Battle
Opress Squadron leaked information to Battleteam Deathwatch in order to draw them into a trap. On a space station within the Unknown Regions, the two units clashed. After either side was unable to gain the advantage, Appius Wight, Aedile of House Wren, realized the fight was a trap, at which point Wrathus revealed that they had successfully been distracting Deathwatch from Plagueis’ assault on Zsoldos.
As the two Battleteams fought, the Dread Lord’s forces, the Ascendant Fleet and Ascendant Legion, arrived at Zsoldos and began their attack. While the Fleet engaged Vizsla’s own fleet, the Ascendant Legion made their way to the ground, aiming to occupy or destroy several key locations on the planet, such as Saga Hall and the Roark-Cole-Tresor Research Station. Vizsla rushed to prepare their response to the attack as Deathwatch hurried back to Zsoldos and Opress joined in the attack.
The campaign was not a long one, but results soon became apparent. After delaying Plagueis’ assault on the Roark-Cole-Tresor Research Station, Vizslan forces had destroyed the facility, preventing it from being occupied by the Ascendant Clan. However, the assault targeting Saga Hall bore more fruit; a unit of the Ascendant Legion successfully seized control of the hall and fought off Vizslan counter attacks. The battle above atmosphere was also trending in Plagueis’ favor, as the Vizslan attempt to board and take control of the Termagant was halted. If things continued at their current pace, Plagueis might have not have controlled every engagement, but they were capable of winning the war.
The entire operation came to a halt, however, when both sides received messages from the Dark Council. The Dark Council didn’t have any particular interest in the conflict at hand, but they were requesting the two Clans reallocate their resources towards a different operation: rescuing the Deputy Grand Master, Evant Taelyan, from his imprisonment on Tenixir. While this order stopped the fighting and forced Plagueis to withdraw their forces from Zsoldos, it did nothing to ease the tensions between the two clans. The Dread Lord bowed to the Dark Council’s orders, but she vowed to one day settle things more permanently with Vizsla.
Aftermath
With the battle over, Plagueis’ attention turned away from Vizsla and Zsoldos. Not only was the clan now assisting the Dark Council in the Tenixir prison raid, but the machinations behind Karn’s attempted assassination had been discovered. The Dread Lord now knew that Laren Uscot had teamed up with Kel Zar and that they were amassing a force to take on Plagueis. Not only that, the tension within the clan had only grown stronger because of the assault on Zsoldos. The Dread Lord was prepared to secure and consolidate her power by any means necessary moving forward, and she wouldn’t let anyone get in her way.
