The Termagant was a Strike-class medium cruiser serving as part of Command Force Dread in Clan Plagueis' Ascendant Fleet.

History

Like multiple vessels within the Ascendant Fleet, the Termagant was purchased following the destruction of the previous navy in 34 ABY. Operating directly alongside the Clan's flagship Ascendancy, it serves as one of the primary means of projecting force within its territories. This role has seen it weather a multitude of engagements against the Clan's enemies, from rival groups to the Iron Forces and The Collective.

The Termagant, following a tradition within Clan Plagueis, is given over to the direct command of one member within its summit. In this case the Clan's Rollmaster takes direct charge of the vessel, commanding it as part of the Ascendant Fleet.

Characteristics

A multi-role vessel of a unique design, Strike-class medium cruiser is best known for its modular construction and degree in which it can be refitted for individual missions. Consisting of multiple linked components, large segments of this design can be removed and replaced to have it support specific operations such as ground support operations, planetary invasions, or convoy raids. This dramatically widens the ship's mission profile, allowing it to be utilised for a great number of operations that would otherwise require a fleet of dedicated craft.

At four-hundred-and-fifty meters in length, the ship requires just short of two thousand crewmen to operate in full effectiveness with an additional one-hundred-and-forty gunners to man its batteries in standard configurations. A basic skeleton crew of eight hundred is needed to pilot the vessel, while it can transport between three-hundred-and-forty and one-thousand-and-twenty troops depending on its configuration. The ship's standard armament consists of twenty turbolaser turrets, ten dual turbolaser turrets, ten ion turrets, and ten tractor beams, ten tractor beams; making it well-armed for its size. This is further supported by a small hanger, allowing for up to two squadrons of fighters to be deployed in support of the ship. Other configurations allow for the presence of a warhead launcher and multiple walker variants, along with prefabricated facilities for ground operations. Additional consumables allow it to operate for up to two years without support, while its engines offer great maneuverability and speed despite heavy armour and shielding.

Yet the design's greatest strength is also its more infamous weakness. The vessel's modular design means that well-placed attack runs can damage the connectors between sections, even severing them entirely. This can leave the ship literally shaking itself apart under fire from large-impact weapons such as torpedoes and heavy turbolaser weapons.

Role

The role of the Termagant is to act as part of Command Force Dread's primary battle line, serving in support of the Ascendancy and the fleet's twin Nebulon-B frigates in offering an output of direct firepower against frigate or capital-class targets.
