Admiral Cyvaria Ranin is the commanding officer of the Ascendant Fleet of Clan Plagueis. The highest-ranking officer alive following the decimation of the fleet during the Horizons Crisis, she was rewarded with advancement to her current position due to the ability and daring she had demonstrated, most notably during the Orian Incursion. The former executive officer and then commander of the Atrum Pars II, Ranin is skilled in the areas of fleet command as well as the tactical use of gravity wells. Her post as fleet commander mostly focuses on direct, operational command, whereas overall command of the fleet is vested in the Dread Lord Selika Roh.

History

Mines of Kapsina

In 12 BBY, Cyvaria Ranin was born on Kapsina to a family of miners. Her up-bringing was nothing special, though she was notably intelligent. She was soon graced with a younger sister, Nell, five years her junior. Their childhood remained relatively peaceful up until 2 ABY, when Cyvaria’s parents perished in a mining accident. Cyvaria saw it as her responsibility to now care for Nell, so she entered the workforce early, leveraging her parents’ professional friends influence to secure a job as a miner.

Cyvaria worked hard and managed to eke out a living for herself and Nell. For four years she labored hard until one of her superiors, seeing her dedication and potential, decided to offer her a position in administration. It was an easy decision for Cyvaria to move up out of the more dangerous work into a job with greater benefits. In this new position, Cyvaria thrived and quality of life for her and Nell began to increase rapidly.

It was in this new line of work that Cyvaria met Tala Zamtari, a young human woman who was employed in the same company. The two became good friends and, after a time, lovers. Their relationship was a happy one, although Tala was often secretive about her past. Things came to a head in 10 ABY when Cyvaria stumbled across a set of transmissions. These transmissions were sent from Tala to a rival mining company, implicating her as a corporate spy. Cyvaria confronted Tala, who insisted it was just a misunderstanding. Cyvaria chose to believe her, although she still had some suspicions. While Cyvaria did not report the information to the higher-ups, she did do a bit of investigating of her own in an attempt to discover the truth.

One year later, a large portion of the mine collapsed. Cyvaria was distraught at the loss of life in large part because just days before she had secured a job for Nell in those vary mines. She blamed herself for her sister’s death, until the company’s investigators discovered that the collapse had not been an accident, but an act of sabotage. Cyvaria confronted Tala about the incident, fearing that Tala may have had something to do with it. Tala admitted that she was a spy, but assured Cyvaria that she had not been involved with the sabotage. Cyvaria, now convinced she couldn’t trust Tala, broke off their relationship.

Wanting to find the one responsible, Cyvaria tried to investigate the incident, but found herself constantly encountering corporate roadblocks. So, she left her job behind and began training to join the police force. Her eventual goal, of course, being to find out exactly what had happened.

Ambition and Merit

Cyvaria excelled in her new chosen profession and by 14 ABY she had managed to become a detective in the police force. She wasted no time in pushing an investigation into the incident that killed her sister. With her newfound authority as law enforcement, Cyvaria was able to cut through the red tape and discover those responsible. In a matter of months, she brought them to justice. However, she wanted nothing to do with the resulting corporate squabble between the two mining companies. With her goal completed, she decided to file for a transfer.

Newly assigned to the speeder division of law enforcement, Cyvaria was granted the opportunity to move away from her past to a new, larger city. She worked as a traffic control officer for a couple years before rising to the position of Watch Commander, where she organized patrol routes and oversaw operations involving speeders and other vehicles. Similarly to her previous occupations, Cyvaria excelled, indicating an ability to quickly adapt and learn new skills.

Not long after, Clan Plagueis of the Dark Brotherhood arrived on Kapsina. Cyvaria’s work ethic quickly brought her into favor in the eyes of the Clan. This all came to a head when, in 21 ABY, The Incursion took place, bringing an alien invasion to the Jusadih system. Many individuals were drafted into the fight, Cyvaria among them. Eventually, when the enemy withdrew and Plagueis returned to the system, things started to change.

Cyvaria was personally asked to serve more permanently in the navy, granting her an officer position in the Jusadih Naval Command. Cyvaria continued to prove her worth to Plagueis over the next several years as she served in several conflicts aboard the Atrum Pars II. She steadily rose through the ranks, and eventually, after the Orian Incursion in 30 ABY, she achieved the rank of Vice Admiral of the Jusadih Naval Command.

Ascended Admiral

Not long after the Orian Incursion came to a close, however, destruction came upon the Jusadih system. The Horizons Crisis struck Plagueis and its military, causing chaos. In the resulting blowback, many individuals lost their lives and Plagueis was forced out of the system. Cyvaria traveled with the Clan, leaving her homeworld behind. However, due to her excellent handling of the crisis and the ability on display, Cyvaria was named Admiral of the Plagueian fleet.

Over the course of the next several years, Cyvaria remained a key figure in the Plagueian Navy, her talent and determination keeping her on top. She served under multiple Dread Lords and remained a consistent and key advisor in matters of war and fleet command. To this day, Cyvaria commands the Ascendant Fleet with a competence that is hard to match.

Appearance

A human female with olive colored skin, black hair, and piercing hazel eyes, Cyvaria Ranin stands at 1.75 meters tall and has a slim but muscular figure. Her features are stern and hardened, with a square jaw and high cheekbones. Her skin, while beginning to show signs of age, is clear. Her hair, which she usually wears down at shoulder length, has mostly held its color, but upon closer inspection, gray strands can be spotted. Faint scarring can be seen along the left side of her forehead. Cyvaria usually keeps herself looking very put together and neat. She exudes a no-nonsense aura and moves with a self-assured confidence.

Personality

Cyvaria is a mostly serious person, maintaining a professional air and confident presence. She is very intelligent and a quick learner, capable of tailoring unique tactics on the fly. She is also very adaptive, quickly molding her approach and analyses based on whatever information she has access to. She can be quite diplomatic when dealing with people, but prefers action over long, drawn-out discussion. She is driven and motivated, always striving to be the best she can even when there is no clear immediate benefit.

Diligent and clever, Cyvaria is committed to Plagueis entirely and to the well-being of its people. She cares for those who serve under her, although she doesn’t always show it, but will put success of the mission or well-being of the Clan before any individual, including herself. She sees herself as in service to the Dread Throne, so even though she may not always agree or like her superiors, she respects and obeys them. That being said, she is more than willing to speak to them in frank terms if she believes it serves the mission or the Clan.

Skillset

Cyvaria is a skilled tactician, an intelligent strategist, and a keen commander. While her talents certainly lean towards directing naval operations, she is also a very capable ground commander. She is well-versed in the capabilities of the various vehicles and ships that comprise Plagueis’ forces and has spent some time piloting most of them herself. She is a fast learner and capable of adopting several different roles. She can handle a blaster fairly well and is a capable hand-to-hand combatant, but she doesn’t often find herself able to practice these skills in live combat.

Cyvaria is also a talented investigator and detective, able to solve puzzles and unravel mysteries with relative ease. She has enough empathy to properly read people and is able to lead and inspire those beneath her through willpower and force of example. Her general toughness and strength is further enhanced by her powerful will, giving her a strong ability to keep going in the face of adversity.
