"The crystal is the heart of the blade. The heart is the crystal of the Jedi. The Jedi is the crystal of the Force. The Force is the blade of the heart. All are intertwined: The crystal,The blade,The Jedi. You are one."
―Traditional Jedi lightsaber ceremony

If you are a Master or Padawan[1] in Clan Odan-Urr, you must abide by these rules and regulations. Please read through them and contact your Rollmaster if you are interested in participating in the Master-Student program.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of a Rollmaster

  • The Rollmaster oversees the progress of all Master/Padawan pairings, as well as masterless Padawans and develops projects for and with said Padawans.
  • If in a Battleteam, the Battleteam Leader also assists with their respective Padawans.
  • The Rollmaster also serves as a guide and example, seeking out flaws in the Master/Padawan Program where they can and will continuously update the program with improvements.
  • Duties of a Rollmaster include, but are not limited to:
    • Welcoming all new members into the Clan.
    • Overseeing the progress of all Padawans.
    • Pairing Padawans to appropriate Masters.
    • Assisting Battleteam Leaders with overseeing their interim Padawans.
    • Acting as a Master to all unpaired Padawans.
    • Updating the Master/Padawan Program.

Responsibilities of a Master

Masters and Padawans often conduct mission together.
  • A Master is a mentor to their assigned Padawan. They are instrumental in a Padawan's training to guide them in the right direction. In this essential position, a Master is tasked with making sure that their Padawan has the best possible experience with Odan-Urr.
  • A Master should make sure that their Padawan is on track and up-to-date with their Promotion Requirements on a regular basis via email, IRC or other forms of communication, as well as communicate with the Rollmaster about their student.
  • Masters should also be supportive and encourage their Padawan as they fulfill their requirements and progress towards Knighthood.
  • Duties of a Master include, but are not limited to:
    • Overseeing the training of their assigned Padawan and providing a good example for them.
    • Keeping in contact with their Padawan and Rollmaster via IRC and email - they must have a maximum email turnaround time of 24-48 hours.
    • Keeping track of their assigned Padawan's promotion requirements.
    • Providing a report on their Padawan and their progress to the Rollmaster every two weeks.

Responsibilities of a Padawan

  • A Padawan is a student under the tutelage of their assigned Master and is tasked with fulfilling their promotion requirements as they rise through the ranks, eventually reaching the coveted rank of Jedi Knight. Padawans should regularly check their email inboxes for valuable information, which may help them in their quest towards Knighthood.
  • A Padawan is also tasked with making sure that their Rollmaster and Master are kept up-to-date regarding their progress. Keeping track of each competition that you as a Padawan participate in is a good practice to get into, as well as informing both your Master and Rollmaster of the competitions that you participate in.
  • Duties of a Padawan include, but are not limited to:
    • Completing the promotion requirements for their current rank.
    • Updating their assigned Master and Rollmaster of their progress.
    • Tracking their progress to ensure their Master has all pertinent details.
    • Replying to the Master/Padawan Reports via email.

Policies and Practices

Joining the Master/Padawan Program

  • New members wishing to join the program must be of the rank Novice (NOV) or higher.
  • Potential Masters must be of the rank Jedi Knight (JK) or higher.

Applying for the program: The Rollmaster will then provide the member with either a Master Survey or a Student Survey (as appropriate). This will enable the Rollmaster to find a good match for a master/student pairing relevant to interests and availabilities in order to provide a new member a mentor they can relate to. The Rollmaster will contact a potential pairing, introduce them to each other, and confirm that they are both okay with this pairing; the Master will then take responsibility for their new Padawan.

For pre-arranged pairings (for example, a member wishes to be the mentor for someone they recruited or a real-life friend), both members should email the Rollmaster and express this interest.

General Rules

Constructing ones lightsaber is the final step in the Trials of Knighthood.
  • A Master may have several active students at a time, however this is done on a case-to-case basis and is privy to the Rollmaster's judgment.
  • If a Journeyman does not have a Master but is in a Battleteam, their Battleteam Leader assumes the responsibilities of the position of Master, with the assistance of the Rollmaster. Should a Journeyman not be in a Battleteam and have no Master, the Rollmaster assumes sole responsibility as interim Master.
  • General policy for contact is that if a Padawan has not responded for one month with at least four attempts at contact on the Master's part, or if a Master has not responded to multiple contact attempts for two weeks, the member should contact the Rollmaster and discuss their options.
  • The Rollmaster has final say over all pairings. Should the Rollmaster find that without dispute a Master is not performing (e.g. failing to respond to student in a timely fashion, treating Padawan unfairly, etc.) the Rollmaster reserves the right to reassign the Padawan to a new Master.
    • Training a student is a privilege, not a right. If problems arise with a pairing, attempt to resolve the dispute amicably first, then take it to the Rollmaster if no solution can be found.

Remember: The primary aim of the Master/Padawan Program is to have fun!

Master/Padawan Reports

  • Master/Padawan Reports are to be completed by the Master and emailed to the Rollmaster every 1st and 15th of each month, with the Padawan CCed in the email. This ensures that the Rollmaster is kept up to date on any progress a student may be making on tasks (for instance they may be working on a Dark Council project, or halfway through a piece of fiction). This also ensures transparent, consistent contact between student and teacher. Finally, this is a good time for both Master and Padawan to provide feedback to the Rollmaster about the Master/Padawan program and its effectiveness; this feedback will be used to improve the program. The Rollmaster may also provide suggestions based on Promotheus reports as to what a Master or Padawan could be able to do.

Notes

  1. In the context of this article, "Padawan" and "Padawans" should not be considered the same as the rank Padawan. They are colloquial, in-Clan terms for members below the rank of Jedi Knight.
