Kodais Solatus (pronounced /kˈo͡ʊdˈa͡ɪs sˈo͡ʊlˈætˈʌs/) was a reclusive figure; generally kept to himself and rarely became involved in the Brotherhood's workings. Kodais preferred the scholarly pursuits of alchemy, history, and philosophy.

Biography

Early Life

Kodais was born the second son of Rehm and Sanlee Solatus in 10 BBY in the city of Iziz on Onderon. Raised in a stable working-class family, his father worked in a hospital as an administrator and his mother owned a small clothing store. Life in Imperial Iziz was stable. There was little to no Rebel presence by the time he Kodais was born. The Empire maintained a fairly large garrison to maintain the peace they had won since defeating the Partisans. Kodais never felt oppressed as a child but as he grew he came to resent the Imperial occupation as an affront to Onderonian independence.

Kodais lived as most boys did in Iziz. He attended school with his older borther, Daksis, and played with his friends. Rehm would often tell Kodais legends of Freedon Nadd, the Beast Wars, the Jedi, and the Sith. They may have been only legends and myth, but he always believed they grew from a grain of truth. These tales would lead Kodais to seek the truth behind the stories later in life.

As Kodais grew to adulthood his family suffered a series of tragedies in rapid succession. Rehm was arrested by the Imperial Security Bureau on charges of which Kodais never learned the nature. Daksis joined the Stormtrooper Corps before Rehm was arrested. News that he had been killed in action reached Sanlee and Kodais mere weeks after Rehm was last seen. Distraught, Sanlee took her own life when Kodais was 17 years of age.

With nothing keeping Kodais at home, he sold off all his inherited property and joined the Onderonian Army under the New Republic. He fought in several major battles and many smaller actions before being honorably discharged after four years of service. Returning to Onderon was bittersweet. Most of his friends did not understand where he had been or what he had seen. Moreover, he had become jaded and embittered toward the Empire, New Republic, and even his own people. Consumed by a slowly simmering disgusted rage, Kodais sought solace in the old legends and myths of his youth. Pouring through moldering books and tomes in museums and libraries lead Kodais off world in search of the truth.

Personality and Traits

Kodais views himself as an Onderonian patriot and is exceedingly proud of his heritage. Like most Onderonians he is xenophobic. His pride in his heritage in addition to his upbringing has lead him to believe in the superiority of the Onderonians over most other sentients. He also hates the Republic, the Jedi, and the Mandalorians. He sees Onderon's current problems the fault of the Jedi and the Republic. The atrocities the Mandalorians visited upon the Onderonians are difficult for him to forget as well. He is more tolerant of the Empire though. Under the Empire, Onderon was for all intents and purposes self governing.

Kodais is a bit of a social elitist. He believes there is an order to the universe and one should know their place in it. That being said he has a very peculiar sense of honor. He gives his superiors the respect due their station and his peers a kind of professional courtesy. The person however, must earn his respect. Underlings get no respect from him at all until they have proven themselves, which is difficult to do. All this makes Kodais appear snobbish or arrogant at times. Manners are a big part of Kodais' sense of honor. In his opinion good manners are the hallmark of professionalism and civilization. A peer meeting Kodais for the first time may think him overly formal, but that is just his way of being polite.

As a xenophobe and humanocentrist he is convinced of humanity's superiority over the rest of the universe. He looks down his nose at all non-humans, and basically chooses which near-humans he accepts. He views clones to be lower than non-humans. To Kodais the artificial creation of any sentient being is an unforgivable blasphemy against the natural order of the universe. The only real fear he possess is a case of thalassophobia. He grew up never seeing the ocean or any other body of water larger than a river or pond. Consequently he is uneasy around large bodies of water and, though he can swim, is quite nervous in or on the water. Another one if his quarks is a distinct aversion to being touched.

Being that Kodais was raised in a temperate jungle environment, he hates being cold. This was compounded when, while in the Army, his hands suffered mild frostbite during a mountain training exercise. Ever since then his hands' functions become impaired and painful in cold weather.

Always the scholar, Kodais has a penchant for language. He speaks Basic, Sith, and Bocce fluently. There aren't many worldly interests for Kodais outside of the Force and he lives a somewhat monastic life. However, he does have a taste for high end whiskeys such as Whyren"s Reserve and Johrian.

Though not necessarily a gambling man, Kodais appreciates a good game of sabacc or pazaak and usually takes his deck with him when he travels. Styling himself as a man of culture, Kodais is an amateur collector of unusual items and artifacts. Strangely he doesn't have a specific item or theme to his collection, just whatever he finds interesting.
