The Wildcards are an informal Battleteam created to serve House Hoth of Clan Odan-Urr. Founded in early 35 ABY, the unit gathered a mixture of Jedi Knights, smugglers, bounty hunters and mercenaries with the intention of carrying out underworld operations and dealing with threats covertly. Targeting assets, threats and possible risks which House Hoth could not be seen publically confronting, they were to be the dagger to the Knights of Allusis' sword. Operating out of the Idiot's Array, the group has clashed with the likes of the Black Sun in neutralising possible threats and performing off-the-books operations.
History
Founded shortly before the Twelfth Great Jedi War, the Wildcards' formation was sanctioned by a number of Hoth's governing members. Due to the bureaucratic and political red tape associated with the Vatali Empire, Odan-Urr had found itself challenged to perform a number of key operations vital to the ongoing war with the Iron Throne. As a result, the decision was made to form a group with the ability to target threats beyond their borders and carry out tasks without being directly associated with the clan itself. After conferring with several of the Clan's leaders, Celevon Edraven Erinos approached Yuki Suoh with the intent of using her as an intermediary in gathering the members best suited for such a role. These were not soldiers but specialists of one form or another, and while most were veterans of previous conflicts with the Brotherhood's current regime, several only tangentially connected to House Hoth itself or maintained a number of underworld contacts.
Assembling those who agreed to be recruited on Solyiat, Keiji Suoh was selected to lead the new battleteam in their first task of claiming a base of operations. Word had reached House Hoth that the Black Sun and an unknown third party were conducting private deals aboard the Godless Matron without the consent of its captain. As the Black Sun 's presence on the ship was undesired, Keiji saw this as a method of both getting into Morgan Sorenn's good graces and claiming the Sun's Baleen-class heavy freighter for themselves.
The group would languish in a secondary role for several years, before being folded into the new organizational structure House Sunrider. While they were no longer serving as a designated battle team, the Wildcards were free to act as a part of the clan and with the benefits afforded to all of its members.
Internal Structure
As the Wildcards are a loosely linked company of freelancers, independent operatives and specialists, the battleteam lacks the rigid internal structure found in the more typical military groups. Many will depart from the team for a time to pursue their own objectives or tasks, serving as anything from bounty hunters to smugglers when required. A number of members are on well-established terms with the Tincles the Hutt syndicate, which has served to both provide them work along with contacts and information necessary to the group's continuation.
Many ships, armaments, and tools are provided by the members themselves, either through personal purchases or salvage operations of lost derelicts. While refueling and maintenance are covered by the clan itself, attaining this equipment as required has led to Wildcards members pillaging fallen enemies for their equipment, or even raiding salvage yards for supplies. This allows them to operate independently of Odan-Urr's larger military as required.
Trivia
- While recommendations for the unit name were held via an anonymous poll, a multitude of members including Droveth Kathera Vectivi and Ka Tarvitz suggested the Wildcards as a reference to the television series Space: Above and Beyond.
