Kaiburr was born into the dominant Pellucidus-Hive, located in the center of Orax and home to its most wondrous and acclaimed crystal formation, in approximately 3783 BBY. Formed at the edge of one of Orax's many hot springs, the giant cluster of crystals was the largest silicon based crystalline lattice in the galaxy, and it housed the largest hive of Shard on Orax. Known throughout the planet as its finest philosophers and thinkers, Kaiburr was raised by the hive-mind as one of its great scholar-priests thanks to his special gift. Blessed with more than just the electromagnetic senses of his race, Kaiburr was touched by the gods and was one of the rare such Shard on the planet. Part of the hive-collective and yet also strangely apart, Kaiburr was able to retain his own identity and will inside the large group thanks to his special connection. Little did he know that he was in fact a highly attuned Force-sensitive, and it was this gift that enabled him to keep his identity and self-consciousness inside the vast Shard hive-mind.

Growing up as a prospective Scholar and sage shaped Kaiburr into an inquisitive and highly intelligent young Shard and he anxiously followed - and as his knowledge and skills grew, also participated in - the great political, philosophical and even whimsical debates of his brethren and elders. As his mind matured Kaiburr found that he had a frightening ability that sent shock-waves through the hive-mind and began a debate that would hold frightening consequences for the young adult. As an immobile and quite primitive race, especially one as long lived as the Shard, their entire world view - and indeed the very basis for their entire civilization -  was based upon the fact that the world was untouchable and immobile to the crystalline race. And yet here was one of their own. Able to touch the world. Affect it. Change it. Even with their limitations.

Attack of the Corporations
119 <small>BBY</small> to 90 <small>BBY</small>

The great debate was cut short and shoved to the background as Orax was discovered by the Galactic Republic in 119 <small>BBY</small>, an event that saw many Humanoid species arrive on the planet intent on plundering it for profit. The pristine and unmarked world was quickly found to hold massive deposits of rare minerals and further metallurgical surveys found that the planet was seeded with vast veins of different ores. The greedy corporations of the Galactic Republic were astounded at this discovery and soon the planet was swarming with new settlements and mining operations. The once primal and beautiful world was soon covered with festering wounds as numerous mines were founded and hordes of labor droids were imported to work the mines.
Unfortunately for the Shard species, the Republic was late to discover the races sentience and in the span of a few years the Shard population was drastically cut down and reduced in number. Like the Tsil colonies onNam Chorios, the Shard were found to have unique properties in electronic and droid technology and massive operations were mounted to mine as much of the precious "stones" as could be. Further destruction and despoiling was prevented only through the hard fought efforts of a small group of bio-mechanical engineers and nature activists, who petitioned the Senate, successfully, to preserve the natural beauty of Orax as they watched with morbid disgust the horrific transformation taking place on the planet. Little did they know that they were responsible for saving the Shard race and as the time went by, a new discovery stunned the galaxy. The discovery of the Shard sent waves through the Republic and numerous HoloNet documentaries were created to preserve their legacy. In a bid to help the Shard race assimilate into the rest of the galaxy, furious research was instigated into the problem of their immobility and soon enough breakthroughs in droid technology enabled a Shard to be placed inside a droid host.
Revenge of the Shard
90 <small>BBY</small> to 60 <small>BBY</small>
Eagerly accepting a droid body and the means to finally move around and explore the galaxy that had so fascinated him, Kaiburr underwent the training necessary to couple his unique electromagnetic energy with droid technology and thus integrate the two entities into one whole being. Assigned to a fairly battered protocol droid as a starting point, Kaiburr was fascinated and enthralled with the new opportunities that his new "host" afforded him. Despite the deep debate that now raged about the moral and cultural impact that the new technology had introduced to the slow and deeply traditional Shard society, Kaiburr embraced the new concept of time and space that the organic races seemed to view the galaxy with and worked hard to assimilate himself into galactic society.
Joining the planetary government that was soon created to help the Shard integrate into the Senate, the Republic and of course - commerce, Kaiburr made it his mission to work towards the recovery and preservation of all Shard colonies on Orax. Dealing with the numerous corporations and private concerns that flooded the newly made Government opened his eyes to the dirty backdoor politics and shadowy deals that permeated the corrupt and ineffective Senate, and with mounting concern he watched as money slowly eroded all of his hard work and the planets despoiling resumed its grim march. With a burning rage and growing anger at the Republic’s ineffective policies, Kaiburr organized like minded Shard into a small and tightly knit group and started to wage a covert war on the Corporations destroying his dear planet. Calling themselves 'Protegat' they eschewed violence and other destructive means of retribution, Kaiburr and his organization struck back using legal loopholes to entrap and obstruct mining operations; creating soul numbing bureaucratic procedures and filing systems that sent legal attorneys scrambling madly back and forth; and generally causing as much havoc as possible using non-violent means.
A New Hope
60 <small>BBY</small> - 50 <small>BBY</small>
<br/>
The arrival of exiled Jedi Master Aqinos brought a ray of hope to the beleaguered Shard and his subsequent discovery of a select few Shard as Force-sensitive underscored the burgeoning sense of Justice that crept into the collective consciousness. Taking the few Shard able to touch the Force under his wing and training them to fully wield their powers, the resourceful Sunesi Master realized his dreams of blending technology with the Force. Using various class IV droid hosts such as Juggernaut war droids, FLTCH series droids, and Uulshos Justice droids as their hosts many Iron Knights took as their name that of lightsaber crystals, reflecting both their connection to the Force and their crystalline bodies. Earning themselves the sobriquet "Iron Knights" during the Arkanian Revolution, the name reflected their Jedi powers and philosophy, and yet the strong metallic bodies that Aqinos created.
The formation of the Iron Knights and their initiation into the Jedi Order was seen by most of the Shard community as the longed for sign of Republic and Jedi support and recognition. Long bereft of hope and slowly drowning beneath what seemed an endless wave of credits and corruption, a new vision for the future of Orax was reborn. New legislation swept the planet, as longstanding rivals united in common cause against the foreign companies. Celebration and cries of support for the Republic were displayed in the HoloNet, and a special place of honor was given to Aqinos in the Shard homeworld. But it was not to be. Little did the Iron Knights know that their Jedi training, organization and induction in the ways of the Jedi, was an unauthorized experiment by the unorthodox and radical Jedi Master.
The Arkanian Revolution was a turning point in the Iron Knights chapter, and despite the ten years that Jedi Master Aqinos had spent teaching the Shard knights prior to the conflict - not to mention their invaluable aid in quelling the mutated and horribly transformed cybernetic soldiers of the Rebels - the Jedi Council, with Mace Windu foremost among them, excommunicated and exiled the free thinking Sunesi. Leaving the Order in disgrace and gathering about him his stunned disciples, Jedi Master Aqinos took the Iron Knights to the planet Dweema where they founded a small base and continued to train any Force-sensitive Shard who reached them.

The Protegat Strike Back
More to come...

Betrayed and stunned beyond all measure by the harsh decision of the Jedi Council, a disgusted and now bitter Kaiburr declined the invitation to join his brethren on Dweema and instead set out to find a new path for himself in the galaxy. Adopting the persona of a droid servant to mask his presence, Kaiburr wandered the galaxy looking for new purpose and direction. Letting his natural born patience and foresight take him where he would, the Shard traveled through many planets and experienced many cultures during his search.
Throughout his entire journey, the now jaded and cynical Shard found that wherever he went suffering and destruction was the norm. Corrupt politicians abused constitutional powers to line their own pockets, powerful gangsters and crime lords ruled the shadows from a dark web of intrigue and violence, and worst of all – the greedy corporations that had despoiled countless worlds in search of profit rose above them all, untouchable. Even the so called guardians of light themselves - the Jedi Order - were inept and corrupt, as they blindly enacted the will of the Senate and mindlessly defended the bloated Republic from any challenges to its rule. Thousands of citizens upon the various planets in the Republic starved to death and lay homeless and destitute while the stalwart defenders of “peace” ignored their plight and sat in grand palaces and glittering temples.
Making his way through the Mid-Rim on the border between Senex sector and Hadar sector, Kaiburr soon found his way to Asmeru and a certain Journalist who shared the same political and moral viewpoints. Using his prior experience running a clandestine organization to good effect, as well as his formidable Jedi born powers, Kaiburr soon impressed Havac and was inducted into Nebula Front soon therewith. Working as an odd-job man, he was committed to Nebula politics but not particularly active, until the Republic won the Stark Hyperspace War, turning the Stark Commercial Combine leader Iaco Stark, and capturing the Combines flagship - the Raptor.

Nebula Front asked him to choose a nom de guerre, and he chose the name Mordamen Bast utilizing his newly commissioned HRD droid body to assume a secret persona. He was described by those who knew him at the time as a well-organized leader, not a guerrilla; during fighting between the Combine pirates and Supreme Chancellor Kalpana's troops, he stayed in his office instead of joining his brethren. He moved to Eriadu, setting up a trading company called Impex. Impex became a front for Nebula, serving as a meeting place and conduit for funds. This became a hallmark of Kaiburr's career. Companies controlled by the NF made him a rich man by engaging in legitimate business deals, while acting as cover for arms deals and mercenary activities. Eru Matalis appointed him in 45 <small>BBY</small> as the Nebula Front representative in Xozhixi, Thyferra, then (at Kaiburr's insistence) to the same position in Yag'Dhul in 44 <small>BBY</small>, two months before The Stark Hyperspace War, when over 10 days of fighting the Galactic Republic's army drove the Combine pirates out of Troiken, with the loss of thousands of lives. Shard journalist Seale writes that Kaiburr's absence from Thyferra during this period, when it was clear that the Republic was about to act against the pirates, raised suspicion within the movement that Kaiburr was interested only in saving himself.
::First Operation
Shortly after the Stark Hyperspace War, Kaiburr began accusing the NF of cowardice over his Voice of Orax HoloNet station in Yag'Dhul for having agreed to a ceasefire with the Republic. During Nebula Front's Third Congress in Asmeru in 40 <small>BBY</small>, Kaiburr joined Nebula activist and writer Jalan and Cindar (leader of the Nebula Elite responsible for the Caprioril Massacre), calling for greater democracy within Nebula Front and revenge against Supreme Chancellor Kalpana. In 32 BBY Cindar was arrested in Coruscant for an attempt on Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum's life. This led to Kaiburr's first operation, using the name Al-Iqab ("the Punishment"), when five gunmen entered the Sullustan embassy in Sluis Van, took 15 hostages and threatened to blow up the building if Cindar was not released. The gunmen flew two days later to Eriadu, still holding five hostages, then to Yag'Dhul, threatening to throw the hostages out of the aircraft. They surrendered and released the hostages a month later. Cindar was released from prison two weeks later; Seale writes that the Eriadu government paid Supreme Chancellor Finis Valorum 12 million credits for his release.
On the day of the attack, 56 heads of state were meeting in Giju for the 4th conference of the Non-Aligned Movement. According to Seale, the Sullustan Embassy operation had been commissioned by Yag'Dhul's Dodecien, Vul Shushin, as a distraction because he was jealous that Giju was hosting the conference. Seale writes one of the hostage-takers admitted that he had been told to fly the hostages around until the conference was over. Kaiburr had carried out the operation without the permission of Nebula Front. Cindar (Eru Matalis's deputy) and Jalan flew to Yag’Dhul to reason with Kaiburr that hostage-taking harmed the movement. Cindar told Seale that a Yag'Dhul official at the meeting said: "Why are you attacking Kaiburr? The operation was ours! We asked him to mount it for us." Jalan was furious and left the meeting with the other NF delegates. From that point on, Seale writes, the NF regarded Kaiburr as under the control of Yag'Dhul.
::Expulsion from Nebula Front
Two months later, the Protegat hijacked KLM Flight 861, this time using the name Shard Nationalist Youth Organization. Nebula Front had been discussing convening a peace conference in Eriadu; and the hijacking was intended to warn them not to go ahead with it. In response, in 31<small>BBY</small>, Eru Matalis expelled Kaiburr from Nebula Front. One month later Kaiburr reformed the Protegat, calling it Nebula Front: The Revolutionary Council. That year a Nebula Front court sentenced him to death in absentia for the attempted assassination of Eru Matalis. Seale writes that it is unlikely that Kaiburr had intended to kill Matalis, and just as unlikely that Nebula Front wanted to kill Kaiburr. He was invited to Asmeru to discuss the death sentence, and was allowed to leave again, but it was clear that he had become persona non-grata. As a result the Givin gave him Nebula Front's assets in Yag'Dhul, including a training camp, farm, newspaper, HoloNet station, passports, overseas scholarships and 15 million credits worth of weapons. He also received Yag'Dhul's regular aid to the NF: around 150,000 credits a month and a lump sum of 3–5 million credits.

There are secrets that must remain hidden; forbidden teachings that should remain forever buried. There is a dark side to the Force. Unchecked it brings death and destruction. The Council of First Knowledge is sworn to keep this terrible power from being unleashed, but the influence of the dark side is scattered throughout the galaxy, as are the tools it uses to spread: ancient texts of Sith sorcery; amulets imbued with malevolent energy; tainted crystals that can corrupt the minds of the innocent. Sometimes these artifacts are discovered by accident, and they fall into the hands of unsuspecting victims. They become agents of the dark side, wreaking havoc across the galaxy…unless we get to them in time. We are trained in the handling of dark side artifacts. Main - Kaiburr's old abilities within the Force

As a Krath Sorcerer, Kaiburr uses aggressive Force techniques and abilities to harm his foes and bend them to his will rather than use his woefully inadequate physical shell, which due to the destructive energy of the Dark Side coursing through his body, continually corrodes the physical shell of his host.
Lightsaber Combat
Due to the limitations of his suit, Kaiburr was forced to modify his lightsaber form. At first, Kaiburr's combat techniques were clumsy, and utilized mostly stiff vertical strikes. However, after a time, Kaiburr began to accept his condition, and began to modify his technique accordingly. Though his agility had been severely hampered by the suit, his strength and stamina had been vastly augmented, and he began to use this to his advantage. He had retained both the academic knowledge of lightsaber combat and experience that he had attained as a Dark Jedi Knight, and began to borrow elements from all forms of lightsaber combat. The style that resulted was a unique hybrid lightsaber form built around Soresu that incorporated anything Kaiburr could use to compensate for his weaknesses.

Due to his incorporation of multiple styles into his own, his technique also became quite unpredictable. He also used the Force actively in combat, using it both to overpower opponents that he could not out-fence, or incorporating it into his lightsaber sequences to improve his overall viability as a duelist. However, his style, at least in its early applications, placed considerably greater emphasis on protecting the vulnerable components of his respirator than it did his limbs.

Although he had access to lightsaber resistant cortosis, Kaiburr relied on his own skill with the weapon to protect himself from Jedi attacks. Despite this, various portions of the suit could still withstand lightsaber hits with a fairly little damage. For instance, during his duel with Kordath Bleu de'Tanna on Krayiss II, Kaiburr blocked a strike from Kordath with the back of one of his gloves, and though the stroke visibly damaged Kaiburr's glove, Kaiburr had no difficulty using that hand for the rest of the duel. During the same fight, Kordath also landed a superficial hit on Kaiburr's lower left leg which caused Kaiburr no injury. The pauldron appeared to be particularly durable, as Nikola Valtiere landed a direct, two handed strike to Kaiburr's right shoulder during a training duel, and it did not appear to hamper Kaiburr's physical capabilities at all. To further sharpen his abilities, he frequently sparred with increasingly newer and better droids, sometimes several at a time.

To make up for his relative lack of mobility, Kaiburr often threw his lightsaber at his targets if they were at a distance, sometimes using the Force to spin the blade like a circular saw. He would also, at times, allow his opponent to vent, allowing them to believe that they were driving him back when he was actually letting them wear themselves out before disarming them in one rapid motion.

Kaiburr utilized a two-handed grip on his lightsaber, though he could fight with one of either of his hands. As a stance used while waiting for his opponents to strike, Kaiburr would point his lightsaber towards the ground at an angle, and would take advantage of his blade's position by making lightning-fast underhanded sweeps and vertical strikes. As well, at times he manipulated his blade with just his wrists, not moving his arms.

Martial Arts
Reticulating from the Corporate Sector, Klarin Chi was devised by the natives of the Sector's primary planet as a way to defend themselves from technologically superior adversaries. In its original form, it involved focusing one's mind to the point that their very thoughts could affect reality around them. The practical application was that it allowed them protection against blaster bolts and melee weapons. Unfortunately, nearly the entire Klarin race was exterminated less than 3000 years after the founding of the Old Republic. After their destruction, the survivors decided that it was their very immunity to modern weaponry which made them such a target, and swore to never again teach the focusing of their minds. This they did with full dedication, never revealing a single focusing technique to anyone, effectively destroying their own ancient secrets. Instead they passed on only the physical attacks and defenses of the forms. These are primarily smooth, simple attacks, without complication or embellishment.

Furthermore, the entire style is ripe with throws and parries, completely devoid of actual blocks. It is a fluid, graceful style best-suited for avoiding damage while wearing down an opponent.
Dulon is an elegant art. It draws upon internal strength, using the body’s own life energy to perform the techniques. The style is graceful, and eschews brute force for speed and alacrity.

The primary repertoire of a Dulon fighter involves using one’s opponent’s energy and strength against them. Dulon could be considered a “fluid” art, believing in presenting nothing for an opponent to strike. One Master even stated, “The best defense is simply to not be there.” By evading the brute force of an opponent, the Dulon adherent will seek to leave himself an avenue to take advantage of the assailant.

Strikes can be augmented by the advanced artist with life energy, delivering powerful blows even with little visible movement. Slowed down, one can almost see the master's strike move in a 'wave' from the ground, his legs grounded in the floor, seemingly drawing strength from it. The Masters have an almost religious following, rumors and tales telling of their accomplishments, often attributing supernatural strength to their actions.

Taught in devoted studios, this art can be learned by anyone, although it takes true devotion, years of study, and a lot of willpower to truly master the art. The youngest one to have been considered a true 'Master' of Dulon had spent 60 years studying the art. Some have complained that this is elitism, but the truth of the matter is that these masters still hold the skill to defeat almost any challengers, even (if one were to believe the tales) Jedi.
The Force
Sith magic, while as much a part of the dark side as endowments like Force Lightning, was accessible only to those Force-sensitives who possessed an intrinsic relationship with the dark side. Through the recitation of spells, execution of hand gestures, and or the handling of various artifacts, darksiders were able to channel the raw power of the Force's malignant side to warp minds, alter the environment, and obliterate whatever obstacles stood in their way. Spellcasting was an essential quality of Sith magic, as its practitioners believed that giving voice to an incantation tapped the strength of countless Sith sorcerers long passed. Any that required vocalization were only scribed in the Sith language, and could only be recited in said tongue. Long experimentation and deep study has taught Kaiburr various spells and incantations such as the domination of another weak willed being's mind through the Qâzoi Kyantuska spell, the ability to form iridescent bolts of pure hatred with the Sutta Chwituskak hex or to call upon the full scope of negative emotions that lingered in the center of his soul. Fueled by the power of the Force, Kaiburr could exhale his emotions in tides of dark side energy that rapidly expanded in a spherical aura around him. Sith magic was used for defense as well as for attack, and Kaiburr can conjure shadows of uneasiness around himself that can repel any non-sentient creature within range. The vague sense of discomfort caused by the aura of unease also affected sentient beings, stirring in them feelings of sudden sickness and debility.

Kaiburr has learned to combine exotic spells with traditional Sith talents while in the midst of battle, but when engaged in lightsaber combat, he was often forced to divide his concentration between casting spells and bladework. Conversely, Kaiburr's concentration was able to be interrupted by anyone skilled enough to distract him, and his magical creations could be undone by pure manifestations of the light side of the Force. Kaiburr, if given the chance, will employ the Force or mundane mechanisms to confuzzle his enemies and render them vulnerable. Whether summoning uncontrollable shaking fear that would wreak havoc with his targets capabilities if successful, or unleashing Sith magic and projecting an illusionary image into the minds of his opponent, of anything from a pillar of fire to a snarling monster, depending on the range.
Kaiburr really needn't bother with such elaborate setups. It would be easy enough, after all, to destroy a spaceship by mind twisting its crew members into pressing the wrong buttons and steering it into the nearest star. Or to kill his opponents by having them confuse each other for enemies and fatally attack each other. But again, what would be the fun in doing something as simple as that? Of course, this could—and usually does - give his prey the time and/or chance to think up a way to counter Kaiburr's powers, or leave clues that they are in an illusion in the first place, such as a blank book. Once Kaiburr is destroyed, the world he created usually dissolves into nothingness - provided the defeat or death of Kaiburr wasn't part of the illusion itself...
Sith Alchemy
As Sith sorcerers sought to bend the Force to suit their purposes, they delved into bizarre experiments concerning the manipulation of both life and death. Before the Dark Jedi Exiles arrived on Korriban and sullied the bloodlines of the native Sith species, a king named Dathka Graush combined alchemical sciences with his mastery of Sith magic to create an army of undead monstrosities from the corpses of those fallen during one of Korriban's cyclical civil wars. Graush also worked Sith magic in tandem with the most advanced and available technologies to fashion a dark side crystal, one imbued with more than a thousand Sith spirits, with which he replaced his own heart. When Graush was assassinated, the spirits of his Korriban zombie army joined those trapped within his crystalline heart.
While the Sith species practiced Sith alchemy long before the Exiles arrived on Korriban, it was the Exiles who perfected it, one of their best being Sorzus Syn, using the knowledge to create the Leviathans that they acquired during the Hundred-Year Darkness.

Sith alchemy was primarily used to enhance the strength of weapons and armor (such as the famous Sith swords), or to genetically engineer and enhance alien species, making them more dangerous and easier to control by the Sith Lords. More sinisterly, Sith alchemy was capable of waking the dead in servitude to the Sith. Korriban zombies, and possibly Sith undead, were creations of this branch of the art.

Sketch depicting Kaiburr

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."
―The Call of Cthulhu

Kaiburr was a Shard male personality Dark Jedi who's entire Hive was destroyed, shortly after the Republic discovered his homeworld during last few decades of the Galactic Republic's existence. Forced to deal with the ever increasing demands of the Mining Corporations, Kaiburr learnt how to navigate the ever shifting quicksands that is the political game - something that would stand him in good stead in his later years. After spending most of a decade trying to stem the onslaught of greedy executives, Kaiburr and a few of his brothers drew the attention of a mysterious Jedi, who, discovering their Force Sensitivity, inducted him into the Jedi Order as an initiate in 60 BBY. Under the tutelage of Jedi Master Aqinos, Kaiburr learnt to access the Force and joined the Iron Knights, an offshoot sect that was soon excommunicated for it's founder's heresy.

The betrayal of the Jedi Council left Kaiburr stunned and shaken, and a now darker Kaiburr wandered the galaxy eventually falling under the sway of the charismatic Havoc. Soon, Kaiburr grew ever more militant and fanatical and his long slide to the Dark Side had begun. Turning to terrorism and committing heinous crimes against the galaxy only compounded his fall and the Yuuzhan Vong invasion was the final catalyst. Horrified by his actions during the war the Jedi Order hunted him down, eventually cornering and defeating him once and for all. But this was all a ruse, Kaiburr had found a Holocron detailing a long string of numbers and one name - Antei. Making the blind jump to hyperspace, Kaiburr knew that whatever was out there was bound to be better then the Jedi.

The Shards starcraft was intercepted and brought in by members of the Dajjoran Defense Force, and brought in for questioning. Surprised to find only a broken down and heavily damaged droid, the soldiers turned him over to their Arconan overlords and within a few days Kaiburr was shipped to the Shadow Academy to begin his training. Arriving at the Academy with some knowledge of the Force already made Kaiburr a target of the other trainee's, and his further alien nature soon made him a loner and social pariah among his peers. Rising through the ranks fast, Kaiburr graduated the Academy and joined Clan [Arcona], passing his trials under the auspices of the Rollmaster of the Clan, Nikola Valtiere. Thrust into the volatile situation on New Tython, Kaiburr was struck by the initial failing of Soulfire to succeed with their objective's and came to the conclusion that the way to remedy their failure was by amassing forbidden lore and dark power. This search led him to the mysterious Dark Jedi Master, Sith Bloodfyre, and Clan Tarentum.

The Dark Jedi Brotherhood

The Force Awakens

19 ABY to 30 ABY

"The Je'daii don't see a division of the light and dark side; instead, they believe a balance is necessary between the two. The Je'daii are like the Titans in Greek mythology who came before the gods. They are beings of great power and ability, but not all-knowing. They struggle with the idea of balance in the Force and know that being out of balance affects their power and the planet Tython itself."
―John Ostrander

After the tumult of the Yuuzhann Vong wars and the cataclysmic destruction that they had wreaked on the New Republic, the New Jedi Order investigated reports of the many atrocities committed by Kaiburr and his organization during the war - all in the name of "peace". The Shard's strategy of "Fight fire with fire" and his almost casual attitude when it came to ordering the deaths of thousands was repulsive and went against the very code that the Jedi lived by. Hunting down Kaiburr and his elusive group was no small feat, and after leading them on a merry chase for nearly three years, his small group was decimated and torn into small independent cells barely clinging on to life. Recognizing the need to disappear Kaiburr lead one last foray into the very heart of the Jedi Temple itself and after a bloody battle in the Jedi Archives managed to find the one thing that he had came for - the location of a safe world that the Jedi couldn't reach.

The only reason that Kaiburr himself managed to survive the brutal fighting was his usage of droid technology, and the secret of his true nature. Thinking him to be a Clawdite fallen Jedi instead of the ex-Iron Knight and Shard that he was, his decapitated body was immediately dismissed in the heat of battle and Kaiburr managed to escape by detaching the small spider droid he had created in the HRD droids stomach cavity. Making his way stealthily into the Jedi Archives he crawled slowly through the vast space and sliced his way into finding a directory that lead to the storage area he wanted. Marveling at the incredible amount of knowledge stored there, and the great Holocron's just lying there for any Jedi to study and learn from he activated the one he sought and searched through the information located there.

Recognizing his true nature and refusing to cooperate with the fallen Jedi, the gatekeeper - though he couldn't deny access to a Force Sensitive - attempted to deny him as much knowledge as he could and led the Shard through a long and convoluted path until he found the object of his search. Although the heavy encryption on the Holocron that he had stolen only permitted him to recognize two things from the Star map he had accessed, it was enough for his purposes - an incoherent string of numbers and formula, and one word - Antei. Stealing through the Jedi Temple in the middle of the night and making his way towards the Hangar bay that housed the Jedi starfighters he stole into a [stealth transport] and fought his way clear of the system, narrowly escaping destruction at the hands of his Jedi pursuers as he punched in the coordinates that he had found in the navicomputer.

Physical Appearance

Kaiburr in his natural state

It seems that many who possess great magical, mental, or otherwise mystical might are also in the worst of shape. They may be sickly, horribly ill, crippled, or just physically weak and puny; in general, people who have reality-bending powers seem to suffer for it in other areas.

Kaiburr is no different. His reckless plunge into Sith Sorcery, delving too deeply into Alchemy and attempting to master the Dark Side has granted Kaiburr great mental power, but at the expense of his soul and body. The intensive mental training, pursuit of forbidden lore and the performance of many a dark ritual in the search for ever increasing power has rendered his host frail, decrepit andhorribly weak despite his use of a droid body.

Natural State

In his natural state, Kaiburr is a sentient silicon-based irregularly faceted cylindrical crystal. He is 40 centimeters long and weighs only 5 kilograms. A virulent blood red with a tinge of obsidian at his core, faint pulses of sickly green light can be seen can be seen inside him when thoughts pass through his "brain." Kaiburr's crystalline body has a hardness of 9.0 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Composed of α-alumina (the most stable form of Al2O3) in which a small fraction of the aluminium3+ ions are replaced by chromium3+ ions. Each Cr3+ is surrounded octahedrally by six O2− ions. This crystallographic arrangement strongly affects each Cr3+, resulting in light absorption in the yellow-green region of the spectrum and thus in the red color of the gem. When yellow-green light is absorbed by Cr3+, it is re-emitted as red luminescence. This red emission adds to the red color perceived by the subtraction of green and violet light from white light, and adds luster to the gem's appearance. When the optical arrangement is such that the emission is stimulated by 694-nanometer photons reflecting back and forth between two mirrors, the emission grows strongly in intensity.

Host

Kaiburr's droid host

Kaiburr's droid host's construction was originally similar to human anatomy and indeed was equipped with a variety of cybernetic enhancements. Here though, the similarities ended. Seemingly built out of almost any spare droid and/or vehicle parts the droid looks to be falling apart and in a dangerous state of disrepair. Numerous wire hanging loose from broken appendages, various plating's hanging open revealing the pistons and levers operating them, and the left half of his robotic skull being caved in give Kaiburr a terrifying resemblance to some sort of undead monstrosity.

Personality and Traits

"Let me give you some advice, Captain. It may help you to make sense of the world. I believe you find life such a problem because you think there are the good people and the bad people. You're wrong, of course. There are, always and only, bad people, but some of them are on opposite sides."
―Lord Vetinari, Guards! Guards!

As a Shard, Kaiburr has a moral framework that is so utterly alien and foreign to human experience that he can't be pegged as good or evil. Though he may seem to act in terrifyingly random ways, Kaiburr is no anarchist; nor does he strictly follow the law, because human and Shard understanding of 'law' as a concept may not even be equivalent. There is logic behind Kaiburr’s actions, it's just that he operates with an entirely different set of values and premises with which he draws his conclusions. In addition as a silicon-based species; Shard are neigh immortal and posses a Hive-mind that is inherently alien to most sentient thinking. This perspective makes Kaiburr feel a disconnect with other “organic” sentients who have a faster outlook on time, and because of these differences Kaiburr often struggles with understanding the "organics" around him, and they with him, making him introverted and quiet.

Name

"Although the Force exists everywhere and within all living things, certain artifacts have demonstrated the ability to augment it. One such artifact is the Kaiburr crystal of the planet Circarpous V, locally known as Mimban."
―An excerpt of Jedi Scholar Tionne Solusar's writings[src]

Kaiburr takes his name from the Kaiburr Lightsaber crystal. This was a common practice among Shard Jedi[1]. When first introduced to the Brotherhood he named himself after the Kaiburr crystal due to its rich history and powerful abilities. The Kaiburr crystal was an ancient Force relic, initially located on the planet Circarpous V, locally known as Mimban. When in its natural location in the Temple of Pomojema on Mimban, the crystal increased a Force-sensitives power one thousand times over. Among its magnification of abilities were the ability to heal, to further augment a Force-user's connection to the Force, to project Force lightning by those typically unable, and to empower and energize a tired being close in proximity to the crystal.
