Some Dark Jedi were once members of the Jedi Order and swore fealty to the light side of the Force. Some event in their life caused them to awaken and open their eyes to the realities of the universe. When that happened they cast off the shackles of the Jedi Order and let their emotions free, basking in the power of their anger and rage.
