- "I am not here to win the war. I am here to make sure you survive it."
- ―Windos
Master Windos is a Force Disciple and a Councillor of Urr within Clan Odan-Urr. Where others seek the glory of the vanguard, Windos is the immovable bulwark holding the line behind them. A veteran of countless campaigns, he is more often found covered in the dust of refugee trails and the blood of triage tents than in the pristine halls of the Jedi Praxeum.
Unlike many of his peers who sought the front lines of the Brotherhood's grandest conflicts, Windos spent the majority of his career embedded with civilian populations including the Harakoan tribes of New Tython. His quiet, tireless work away from the spotlight earned him the profound respect of the Odanite leadership, ultimately leading to his elevation to the Councillors of Urr.
Character History
Early Life and Training
Details of Windos' early life remain closely guarded, but his instinctive grasp of unit tactics and battlefield trauma care hint at a long history within planetary defense forces before he ever picked up a lightsaber. He eventually found his way to Odan-Urr, drawn not by the promise of power, but by the simple, profound duty to shield the innocent from the encroaching dark.
The Fall of New Tython and the Harakoan Refugees
When the Thuron Monarchy and the New Dawn forces assaulted New Tython in 31 ABY, the primary Odan-Urr military forces and Jedi leadership engaged in high-profile, desperate counter-attacks to hold the line. Recognizing that the native Harakoan tribes were highly vulnerable to the orbital bombardments and advancing mercenary columns, Windos quietly detached himself from the main strike teams.
Serving as a frontline medic and protector, Windos embedded himself with several displaced Harakoan tribes, guiding them through the wilderness and defending their refugee caravans from New Dawn hunting parties. He spent grueling months dragging wounded warriors to safety under the shadow of gunships, his own life force constantly bled into the broken bodies of those he swore to protect. The immense toll of this relentless restorative channeling, combined with the heavy mantle of leadership, left Windos hardened and jaded.
Service in the Kiast System
Following the liberation of New Tython and the eventual relocation of Clan Odan-Urr to the Kiast System, Windos continued his unsung work. Rather than taking up high-ranking administrative positions within the Vatali Empire or the newly formed Houses, he walked the hangar bays and staging grounds.
He operated as a logistics and medical specialist within the Odan-Urr United Space Command, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the weary regulars of the Kotahitanga-Unity Defense Force and the Vatali Royal Army. To the common soldier, he was a bridge between the enlisted ranks and the untouchable mystique of the Jedi. Wherever the Clan deployed, Windos was invariably found where the casualties were heaviest, overseeing disaster relief and triage camps during Brotherhood-wide conflicts.
Elevation to Councillor of Urr
In recognition of his long-standing, selfless dedication, Windos was elevated to the prestigious roll of the Councillors of Urr. While many Councillors achieved the title through visible summit leadership or commanding great fleet victories, Windos was recognized for being a long term fixture of the Clan's humanitarian efforts. The Clan Summit understood a simple truth: while other Jedi won the wars, Windos was one reason there was still a people left to celebrate the victory.
Characteristics
Physical Description
Years of hauling heavy medical packs and pulling the wounded from rubble have packed Windos' broad frame with dense, functional muscle. The deep, weathered tan of his skin speaks to decades spent under the harsh suns of war-torn worlds, heavily contrasting with his silver hair, which is kept cut strictly short and swept back out of the way.
A perpetual layer of dark stubble covers his jawline, accompanied by deep stress lines permanently etched into his forehead. The skin around his vestigial eye sockets is scarred and heavily wrinkled. Most notably, identical tattoos of ornate tower shields are inked into his forearms.
Personality
Windos treats the entirety of Clan Odan-Urr as his personal charge. He is a man of few words and heavy sighs, carrying the ghosts of the lives he could not salvage in the triage tents. To outsiders, he appears perpetually exhausted and rigidly stoic, an unsmiling soldier always waiting for the next attack to come.
Yet, those who serve alongside him know the profound, quiet compassion that drives him. He does not care for personal glory, political machinations, or ancient Jedi philosophy. His entire existence boils down to a single, unshakeable directive: he will stand in the doorway, and he will not let the monsters pass. He would sacrifice his own life without a second's hesitation if it meant another Odanite could live to see tomorrow.
Combat and Equipment
A Shield for the Innocent
Windos views his lightsaber not as a weapon of war, but as a scalpel to excise threats only when absolutely necessary. In battle, he is a fortress. He anchors himself to the earth, weaving his blade in tight, impenetrable arcs that weather blistering storms of blaster fire and overwhelming odds, draining his opponents' stamina while ensuring nothing touches the people cowering behind him.
When the moment demands that he press an advantage, he seamlessly turns an enemy's aggression against them, batting heavy ordnance back to its source with calculated precision. If stripped of his weapons, his movements become a blur of highly disciplined, kinetic strikes designed to break holds, shatter joints, and subdue threats without unnecessarily extinguishing life.
Harakoan Armaments
His time among the Harakoan refugees left a permanent mark on his identity as a Jedi. To honor the tribes he protected and in turn offered him a sense of belonging, Windos meticulously crafted his armaments using their traditional designs.
The hilt of his custom lightsaber, Matau, is etched with intricate Harakoan carvings. He pairs this blade with a heavily modified lightshield, Punga, shaped and decorated to mimic the traditional war-boards carried by Harakoan chieftains.
Behind the Scenes
- Windos was specifically designed conceptually to be a "blank slate." By keeping his background grounded and focused on being a dedicated protector rather than a chosen hero, he is incredibly easy to write for and can be slipped seamlessly into almost any fictional scenario, roleplay, or Brotherhood event.
- There was actually a previous iteration of this character developed before the current Miraluka concept. However, that version ended up being too generic and boring to be fun to write. He featured one of Solari's robotic arms and lightsaber. Despite having custom artwork commissioned for that design, the character felt uninspired and was completely scrapped before ever being used in any fiction or event.
- For older members of the Brotherhood who might recognize the name: this character is not the same person as my original character, Windos Helkin Tarentae. In terms of in-universe lore, they are completely unrelated. The name "Windos" was simply reused out of a desire to go "back to basics" with my character creation (and, quite frankly, a bit of laziness when it came to inventing a new name!)
