The Sterile Field is a refurbished First Order Light Cruiser that has been converted into a dedicated mobile medical facility and rapid-response humanitarian vessel for Clan Odan-Urr on behalf of its owner, Windos. Originally built as a small command ship and crew-transfer shuttle, the vessel now prioritizes life-saving operations, with extensive medical suites, a specialized triage center directly adjacent to the hangar, and a complement of four medical shuttles optimized for both rapid extraction and mass-casualty evacuation.

History

The vessel's history prior to its acquisition and refurbishment remains largely unknown. What records exist indicate it began service as a standard First Order Light Cruiser before coming into the possession of The Exchange. The ship was then extensively refitted in partnership with the Aurora Collegium of Sciences and subsequently christened The Sterile Field.

Since entering service under its current name and ownership, the vessel has seen no major combat action. Instead, it has primarily served in a support capacity, providing overflow medical care and patient transport for the terrestrial medical facilities across the Kiast System. The Sterile Field stands ready as a mobile hospital, offering rapid response and surge capacity whenever local infrastructure requires assistance.

Description

As a First Order Light Cruiser, The Sterile Field retains its original hyperdrive, sublight engines (providing great speed), average armor, and light defensive armament consisting of one dual turbolaser turret and four missile launchers. The design includes a sizable hangar bay originally intended for TIE fighters and shuttles, as well as standard bridge, crew, and support systems. These core systems provide reliable performance in contested space while allowing the ship to reach crisis zones quickly.

Modifications

The vessel has been extensively refitted by The Exchange and the Aurora Collegium of Sciences to serve as a self-sufficient medical platform. Key upgrades include an Advanced Medical Suite and a Basic Medical Suite, giving the ship several fully equipped medical bays capable of emergency surgery, diagnostic imaging, bacta therapy, long-term patient recovery, and intensive care.

Autonomous systems have been integrated throughout, reducing the required crew to a lean ten personnel for full effectiveness, freeing additional space and resources for medical staff and patients.

The most distinctive modification is the hangar-adjacent triage zone. This specialized staging area is connected directly to the hangar, allowing medical teams to stabilize critical casualties the moment they disembark from incoming shuttles before transferring them deeper into the ship’s medical facilities.

Improved reactor output and basic shield upgrades further enhance the vessel’s ability to operate safely in active conflict zones.

The exterior has received the Heritage Rescue paint scheme: a cream-colored base coat broken up by wide, blocky stripes of deep maroon. This livery mirrors historic Republic medical frigates and is clearly marked with the Red sigil, ensuring The Sterile Field is instantly recognizable as a humanitarian asset from a distance.

Crew

Most of the crew aboard The Sterile Field, including medical, technical, and support staff, are conscripted personnel from the Odan-Urr United Space Command (O.U.S.C.).

The two Iota-class TS-485 light shuttles codenamed MedSprint Red and Blue serve as The Sterile Field's rapid-response ambulances. Fast, agile, and highly maneuverable, they are specifically configured for immediate medevac missions in contested or hazardous environments. Their upgraded ion engines and inertial dampeners allow them to reach hot zones quickly, extract the most critically wounded (typically a single patient at a time), and return to The Sterile Field with minimal delay. The MedSprint pair provides the vessel with the speed and flexibility needed to respond to time-sensitive emergencies where every minute counts.

The two Lambda-class T-4a shuttles codenamed MedHeavy Red and Blue function as The Sterile Field's high-capacity medevac transports. Designed for large-scale casualty events, each shuttle can carry up to five patients along with accompanying medical personnel in a single trip. While slower than their lighter MedSprint counterparts, the MedHeavy shuttles offer greater stability and internal space, making them ideal when patients require more extensive in-transit care but do not need critical-priority return to The Sterile Field. Their upgraded inertial dampeners help ensure patient safety and comfort during longer or more turbulent flights.
