The Blight was formerly the home of House Galeres following Exodus. When it was decided to be impractical to house one full half of Arcona’s membership on a planet where it could only be accessed when the side of the planet wasn’t facing the sun, Galeres was moved to Eldar. After that, the Consul of the time, Sashar Erinos turned the facility into a munitions depot. This cache was mostly used when the Clan retook the Dajorra System back from the Yuuzhan Vong. After that, the Zainab Mining Enterprise purchased the facility to carve out a modest Tibanna Gas Mining venture. The Pits were then largely ignored, save for providing 15% of the Tibanna Gas needs of the clan until some miners stumbled upon a vein of Stygium Crystals. From there, the Consul Marick Arconae immediately took control of the mines, ousted Zainab and repurposed the facility to be a prison, where the prisoners were forced to find Stygium Geodes with their bare hands. It was a brutal, if efficient solution. The Blight is a constant threat to the populace and the Clan of what happens to those who defy the Shadow Clan.
Description
From the surface, the only notable feature of the Blight is the six towers jutting up from a molten sea during the day, and a vast plain of glass during the night. These are used to allow ships to dock (though obviously, touching down on the surface of Sukhur is inadvisable, given its transient nature. However, below the glass sea is a maze of tunnels and caverns.
Just below the towers are several larger areas formerly utilized by Galeres as living quarters. Now, they serve as a small barracks for the guardsmen, as well as a skeleton team of miners who handle the Tibanna Gas mining. However, below are a warren-like maze of narrow crawlways which dive for miles into the depths of Sukhur. Prisoners are forced to live in these crevasses and search out Stygium geodes. If they don’t find any, the beatings from the guards are often fatal.
The prison is used both to house political enemies of the clan as well as Jedi who have been captured by Arcona, or who have left her ranks under less than ideal circumstances. The Stygium crystals found are used to build both lightsabers and cloaking devices, though obviously the Dark Council keeps a close eye on the prison, and demands a hefty tribute, merely ‘allowing’ Arcona to control it, given its location.
