Kuku-Hawene is the current base of the Order of the Force Ascendant, a radical movement of Jedi Crusaders on New Tython, but was originally an ancient Harakoan temple built deep into the ground, it has been speculated that this temple used to be a pilgrimage site for an archaic Harakoan religion. The Temple resides in a boggy section of the thick jungles north-west of Seher. Although originally built by a Harakoan empire several thousand years ago, engravings found on the walls of many rooms in the temple make reference to the ‘Maia’toa’ and implies that the building was, in fact, made by them; Much of the ground floor of the temple lies in ruins, but the deeper ‘sunken’ levels remain intact - the temple is considered to be extremely dangerous to those who have not experienced it for themselves, due to the labyrinthian style of the deeper sections of the temple in conjunction with the still functional traps.

Kuku-Hawene has one floor above ground, the many levels after that all sink deeper and deeper into the ground, entirely void of any natural light they are now illuminated by a small amount of mobile-lighting systems that only cover a small portion of the temple.

A Temple in Ruins

From afar the entrance of the temple ruins appears covered in rubble, but as one approaches the foot of a colossal, but mostly destroyed, statue can be seen under a disheartening amount of stone. A piece of flat-cut stone lies wedged firmly into the ground and against the foot of the statue, thereby creating an opening—enough to allow easy entrance to anything the size of, or smaller, than the average Wookiee. This is the only entrance to the sunken temple of Kuku-Hawene.

‘Hidden’ in the marshes east of the Central Mountain of Owyhyee, a continent on New Tython the temple was said to have been a gift for the ‘Ariki’ which roughly translates to ‘Masters’ or ‘Overlords’ but Scholars has assumed this to be directed to lost ancient Harakoan Gods. The Temple runs far deeper than many explorers dare go, of those that have tried to survive the temples depths very few have returned. Kuku-Hawene was more than a simply place of worship, of the few archaeologists that have been inside to study the temple all have concluded that it was a beacon to a religion of old and a long lost pilgrimage site in which worshippers would travel too from across the entire continent.

Exploration

The speed of the exploration of Kuku-Hawene has rapidly increased since the Order of the Force Ascendant began to reside within the Temple. Due to the nature of the trials of the Order, a grueling set of tasks which include having to face the darkness of the lower levels by oneself. However, this also means that almost all current exploration is exclusively performed by members of the Order and its Aspirants.

The ground floor primarily acts as an access point to the first three floors below it. Upon entering Kuku-Hawene the floor itself appears as a long and wide open ramp leading steadily down to the rest of the temple; the walls at either side of the ramp are adorned with stone-carved images detailing the first appearance of their ancient Gods, the ‘Ariki’, although many of the carvings have been faded by age there is one clear section showing one of the ‘Ariki’ riding a great, round-eyed grinning beast descending from beyond the clouds. This floor is entirely safe and is often used as an area for visitors of the Order to congregate.

The floor below acts as the Orders true base of operations, it is the only floor to have extensive ‘modern’ technology built to cater to the Order’s needs including an ‘Operations Center’ or ‘War Room’—a large space filled with all the necessary technology to effectively direct or assign tasks to members of the Order across the planet. Other chambers of this floor consist of an armoury containing sets of bronze coloured armour and weaponry all forged by the blacksmiths at Seher, a Small Canteen that solely acts for food dispension and the majority of space is taken up for living space. Although there is enough space to sleep approximately 200 Human-sized beings it is rarely used as members of the Order of the Force Ascendent are often away on missions or attempting to aid the many Harakoan tribes on the planet.

The Third Floor down, recently dubbed ‘The Temple Below,’ acts as the official ‘start’ to the barely explored lower levels of the Temple and has very little Order interaction beyond its use within their trials. This floor is the first really dangerous section of the temple due to the large number of traps concealed across the entire floor as well as confusing maze-like paths. This floor and all those below are considered extremely dangerous. Despite these factors, the Order of the Force Ascendent send aspirants into the darkness of the floors to truly challenge them prior to their induction. This floor and all those below, the number of which is currently unknown, are either unmapped or entirely unexplored.

A Sacred Duty

A small tribe, known as the Arataki, reside outside the Temple and have done so for thousands of years. The Arataki are descended from one of two bloodlines chosen to watch over Kuku-Hawene; they claim that they were originally protected by those who built the temple and when the ‘Ariki’ left the temple so did their protection, resulting in many years of poverty for the tribe and causing them to almost die out entirely as the second tribal bloodline did. However, the Arataki persevered and continued to act as ‘caretakers’ of the immediate area around Kuku-Hawene without actually entering the temple due to previous generations believing it to have been haunted. For the most part, the Arataki can be considered as a ‘weak’ tribe as they have very little in the way of warriors and many consider it some form of miracle that the tribe has persisted for so long—the Tribe themselves, however, credit their survival to a force of four ‘crones’ that only they have seen and more recently they can attribute their survival to the Order.

Order of the Force Ascendant

The Order of the Force Ascendant, a radical sect of the Jedi who live on New Tython, made Kuku-Hawene their Home and Base of operations after the temple hid a small number of Jedi during the reign of Cy Thuron whose butcherous acts are, as well as the Brotherhoods invasion of New Tython in 35 ABY, contributing factors to the mindset of the Order. After the then House Odan-Urr put an end to Cy Thuron’s schemes the smaller group of Jedi nearby Kuku-Hawene grew over the years and after refining some of their thoughts and philosophies became what is now known as the Order of the Force Ascendent - who, with the blessing of the Arataki made the temple their home.
