The Ascendant Legion is made up of all ground forces controlled by Clan Plagueis, the Ascendant Clan. Controlled by the Plagueis Summit and under the direct command of General Ranthe Benzayn, these droids are completely loyal to their dark masters and obey the will of Ascension at all times. Originally formed in 27 ABY, it was restructured first in 30 ABY. Following the losses sustained in 34 ABY, the Legion was restructured again and continues to be a ruthless force.

History

The Ascendant Legion was originally founded by Kal di Plagia Vorrac as a reorganization of the Jusadih Military Regime's Branches in 27 ABY. After the departure of Commander Vorrac, the Branches split apart into factions of renegade troops and Dark Jedi and waged civil war against one another. Seeing that only cohesive, true Leadership could unite the Ascendant House and turn it against its enemies, the Dark Jedi who would become known as Primus Pilus led guerrilla assaults and deadly strikes against the rebellious factions until all were once again made to submit to the Quaestor’s authority. Following the resolution of this conflict, Quaestor Tra'an Reith reorganized the remnants of the old Army and Intelligence Branches into the Legion, placing the Army and the Directorate firmly and permanently under the command of the Plagueis Summit. Following the Cantonica Accords, the Legion's infantry was almost entirely replaced by droid forces.

Organization

The Ascendant Legion is organized as a combined operational command that inlcudes ground and aerospace. While General Benzayn is usually directly commanding the overall operations of the Legion, the Legion's aerospace operations are almost always assigned to support elements of the Ground force and therefore under his command as well. This includes strike fighter forces from the Ascendant Fleet that are engaged in ground support operations.

Following the restructuring of the Legion in 34 ABY, the Plagueian army shifted to be formulated around regimental combat teams. The regimental combat team (RCT) is the basic deployable unit of maneuver in the Ascendant Legion. A regimental combat team consists of one combat arms branch maneuver regiment, and its assigned support and fire units. The brigade is normally commanded by a Brigadier (O-7). A regimental combat team carries with its support units necessary to sustain its operations away from its parent unit. RCTs contain organic artillery support as well as air support assets.

The Legion is itself divided into four RCTs: Armored RCT Alpha, Mobile Infantry RCT Beta, Mobile Infantry RCT Gamma, and Armored RCT Delta. The four units are part of the overall legion, and serve under the direction of the current Dread Lord. RCTs Alpha and Delta are the Legion's primary armored force. They were designed around combined arms battalions that contain both AT-ATs and Armored Assault Tanks. Other vehicles, such as AT-STs and T2-B tanks, operate in a supporting role. Artillery support is provided by both J-1 Proton Cannons as well as heavier Self-Propelled Heavy Artillery walkers with air support consisting of a squadron of TIE/SK atmospheric fighters. RCTs Beta and Gamma, however, are infantry forces structured around the Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry functioning as a mobile infantry element. While the armored RCTs do inlcude LAAT/i support, RCTs Beta and Gamma was constituted so that each and every soldier can be transported aboard one of the gunships. Additionally, WLO-5 Speeder Tanks along with Ultra Light Assault Vehicles provide the unit with a highly mobile light-armored strike capability. Additionally, the unit is supported entirely by AV-7 antivehicle cannons, favoring the repulsor-based weapon system for greater battlefield mobility.

Rank Structure

While the army operated by Clan Plagueis is overseen by free officers, the non-commissioned portions of the army ranks are entirely made up of slave soldiers. As such, a formalized rank structure does not exist for those below officer rank within the Legion. The officer's rank insignia are worn on the left side of the chest.
