Tythonians, as they call themselves, are a diverse group of individuals having arrived on New Tython since the establishment of the original, colonial community. They are composed almost entirely of Humans and Mon Calamari (owing partly to the close proximity to the ocean planet) though in recent years an influx of refugee-colonists has bolstered the colonial population, and diversified it to include species whose worlds were razed by the Yuuzhan Vong, particularly Ithorians, Rodians, and Duros.
The Tythonian Colonial Alliance, also called the Tythonian Colonies or simply Tythonians, are a nation founded largely from the colonial community of New Tython. They are a diverse group, composed mostly of Humans from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, though in recent years an influx of refugee-colonists has bolstered the colonial population, and diversified it to include species whose worlds were attacked by the Yuuzhan Vong, particularly Ithorians, Rodians, and Duros. Following the Liberation of New Tython and the fall of the Thuron Monarchy, these colonies allied under the banner of a common, democratic government and legal system, and now form one of four principal national groups on New Tython.

In the year 3 ABY, the first immigrants arrived shortly before the Jedi. It wasn’t until the arrival of the Jedi that Galactic Basic was actually introduced to the tribal people, prior to which a crude pidgin to facilitate trade had evolved (a language which quickly died out after the Jedi opened schools to Harakoans). Over the years, originally isolated farmsteads, became grouped together in larger communities of ranches and compounds.  The largest of these societies went on to form the first major colonies on New Tython and, though their populations slowly increased, they were still at the mercy of both the environment and the surrounding--often unfriendly--indigenous peoples.  By 7 ABY, news of fertile land for the taking hard reached other nearby worlds and a steady increase in colonial arrivals began, which would continue to the present day, resulting in a modern population of approximately 150,000 colonists.

In the year 10 ABY, the first conflict between the Tythonians and the Harakoans occurred. The Tythonians knew they needed more land to support their swelling numbers and decided to gain the land through conquest of the local tribes. A group of nearly five hundred settlers descended upon the nearby tribe of Harakoans and slaughtered them to the person. Before this time, a tentative kind of peace had existed between the two groups, but the greed of the colonists won out over this idea.

With the Harakoans consistently raiding colonies, the Jedi were forced to step in and put a stop to the fighting. As of 34 ABY, open warfare between the two has all but stopped. However, border colonies and rural tribes still suffer from the antagonism from the two peoples and retaliatory strikes are made. These are almost always settled after a time and few are brought to the Jedi’s notice.

In 35 ABY, New Tython became a battleground between Jedi and their Mandalorian allies, fighting against the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. The conflict was violent, and caused great anti-Jedi sentiment amidst the populace. This helped to give rise to the New Dawn movement, whose terrorist acts would widen the gap between native and colonist even further. It came to a head in 36 ABY, when Cy Thuron and his Monarchy invaded the planet, subjugating the Tythonians as subjects and doing worse with the Harakoans. Under Cy's rule, the Tythonian people would be heavily taxed, exploited, and often killed for dissent. This would culminate in 37 ABY with the razing of the colony Varri'alis, an action that sent most Tythonians into full-blown rebellion.

Systems of Colonial Organization
Restoration of Peace
The colonies are designated by area. Thus, a valley or a field may be considered a single colony when in fact few people may live in that area. There are four major colonies of note:

Thuron's rule lasted for all of 37 ABY, while the Jedi bolstered their forces and gathered the equipment and weapons needed to liberate the planet. When they returned in 38 ABY, there were Tythonians amongst the initial Thuronian forces, but these quickly defected when the Harakoans and their army proved too strong for Cy to overwhelm. The colony of Vard Mislu took extensive damages, while Tanduran was locked behind a shield generator and its fields turned into a battleground. These cities were liberated at a heavy cost, claiming the lives of millions including the Jedi Jonuss Rai.

Tanduran Hospice
The rebel Tythonians agreed to Harakoan and Jedi forces holding and maintaining their colonies, before joining in on the assault on Menat Ombo. There, the Harakoan people showed their devotion to freedom, offering over a million mounted and foot soldiers to face the bulk of Thuron's army in a distraction. This allowed Kotahitanga-Unity Defense Force and Harakoan forces to break into the city from behind, overpowering its districts and forcing a surrender. Actions such as these, as well as their gratitude for being saved and for aid in rebuilding, caused the Tythonians to agree to the Treaty of Menat Ombo - as the Tythonian Colonial Alliance.
The Tanduran Hospice is the largest human colony of New Tython and is located on the continent of Milil’ea. It contains a population of 17,500 total inhabitants. Of which approximately 500 of them are non-human and are confined to the northeast district of the colony. The other 17,000 are spread throughout the veldt and run small to mid-sized farms or orchards. Each of these farmsteads produces and shares with the other inhabitants so that no one goes hungry, but all are expected to work.

This colony stands as the most protected settlement due to sheer numbers and the fact that they try to live in something that resembles harmony with their neighbors. Food is traded with the nearby Harakoan tribes for small trinkets and hides. Indeed, some dealings with the Harakoans go south, but the settlers of Tanduran have learned small amounts of the native tongue and bloodshed is usually avoided.
Cities and Townships
A small group of colonies, the Tythonians only have one true city within their government, as well as a few townships and smaller, unnamed homesteads. New groups are always welcome to join this body, provided they accept Tythonian laws, electoral practices, and police forces into their homes.

Menat Ombo
Menat Ombo

The City of Menat Ombo is the only modernized city proper on New Tython, and serves as the seat of government for the Tythonians. Divided into five districts - the Memit District, Spaceport District, Visulu District, Palace Grounds, and It'kla Memorial Gardens - it is huge in comparison to the other settlements and has seen much in the way of hardship. While still quite Tythonian, it has non-human and even Harakoan neighborhoods and is regularly visited by the Jedi.

Menat Ombo was first built around Ooroo Abbey, and from there became an epicenter for Tythonian civilization. It has seen many hardships, from unrest and insurgency, to bombardment from the Brotherhood, to occupation by Thuron. As a result, the city has grown tougher rather than bigger, its buildings stronger with each repair and its walls thicker and better-maintained. Today, it is the political center of New Tython, as members of all four nations debate and discuss the goings-on of the planet.

Town of Tanduran
Tanduran is located on the continent Milil’ea. It contains a population of approximately 20,000 total inhabitants. About ten percent of this population is non-human, living in clustered groups. About two thirds of the town live in a small gathering of buildings, shops, and homes, while the remainder are spread throughout the veldt and run small to mid-sized farms or orchards. Each of these farmsteads produces and shares with the other inhabitants; since the war, their yields have increased, both due to more terrain to farm with and trade with the Harakoan tribes.

Vard Mislu is located on Kamuekiko near the east coast of the continent. These settlers firmly believe in might makes right and strive to push all the nearby tribes away from their settlement. Being former spacers and their children, this population considers those not from their settlement to be vastly inferior to themselves. As such, they treat business dealings harshly and the Harakoans are greatly encouraged to stay far away from this settlement.
Vard Mislu is located on Kamuekiko near the east coast of the continent. As former spacers and their children, this population is quite rugged and stubborn, having been hostile to their neighbors in the past. That all changed when the Monarchy took the town over, turning it into a manufacturing and distribution center due to its port. In the war that followed, the citizens rose up against the Monarchy, and the resulting battle turned eighty percent of the colony to ruin.

After allying themselves with the Harakoans to remove Thuron, many of those in Vard Mislu had no choice but to accept their help, with a great many developing respect for them. Though still an insular place, Mislu is now far smaller, with the ruins of many buildings slowly coming down as new ones pop up in-between them. Between the left-over equipment of the Thuronians and the port, this town has a chance to reinvent itself as a center for entrepreneurs and innovators.

Varri' alis Memorial Cemetery
Varri' alis was once the smallest of the Tythonian colonies. When Thuron conquered the planet, they cordially refused his demands to submit and decided to self-govern. In retaliation, Thuron surrounded the colony, killing everyone within it and burning it to the ground. This action would ultimately sour the Tythonians against him, paving the way for his enemies to unite. After the world was liberated, the site became a massive cemetery for Tythonian dead, complete with gardens and plaques for the fallen.

Varri' alis
National personification
Varri’ alis is the smallest of the notable colonies with a population of about 75 citizens. The languages spoken here are varied and numerous. These citizens are standoffish and are not dissimilar to those of Vard Mislu. Varri’ alis is located on the continent of Owyhyee and rests on the eastern seaboard. Little is truly known of these settlers since they only appear at Council meetings to place grievances. Otherwise, these people are rarely seen and only trade amongst themselves.
The Colonial Alliance is governed by elected representatives in each town, including a mayor and his or her cabinet. Anyone, Jedi included, can run for these positions - but runners must agree to forego any existing legal immunities and are governed under Tythonian law. Cabinets are typically small, consisting of three or four individuals to oversee security, finances, and infrastructure. Being small, rural communities, these places have no need for a large government.

The capital, Menat Ombo, is governed by a slightly larger cabinet, complete with representatives from each of its districts and the Prime Minister. These are all elected locally, while every Tythonian on the planet gets to vote for Prime Minister every five years. No official may hold more than three consecutive terms, and all laws can be put to a vote if demand is raised. Voting malpractice can be investigated by the Jedi, if the people request it.

National personification
Tythonians are protected by the Colonial Security Corps, originally rebels and volunteers who have since put down the weapons of war to keep order. Lacking in official uniforms, they typically wear badges, sashes, or other identifying gear depending on the area they are in. Though trained in lethal weaponry, they typically carry stun pistols and batons as well as stun grenades; in times of planetary invasion, or if a Treaty member is under threat, the Security Corps forms the Tythonian portion of New Tython's standing army.
As a whole the Tythonians are disinclined to be hospitable to their neighbors, the Harokoans. Many of these settlers refuse to even acknowledge the fact that the Harakoans were there first and take land from them without regard to the sanctity of the land.

Without fail, the Tythonians attempt to limit the Harakoans greatly by impeding them with laws that restrict their movement and freedoms. With each new law passed, the Tythonians come a little bit closer to completely controlling many of the key places on each continent and forcing the Harakoans into the worst sections. The Jedi Council attempts to monitor the laws, but some of them manage to slip by without the notice of the Council.

History

Simple Beginnings

In the year 3 ABY, the first immigrants to the planet Harakoa arrived shortly before the Jedi. It wasn’t until the arrival of the Jedi that Galactic Basic was actually introduced to the tribal people, prior to which a crude pidgin to facilitate trade had evolved. This language died out quickly after the Jedi opened small schools to educate Harakoans. Over the years, originally isolated farmsteads became grouped together in larger communities of ranches and compounds.

The reprisal from the Harakoans was met with similar brutality and the fighting continued until the Jedi Council caught wind of it. The settlement between the two was not well liked by either side of the conflict. The relatives to those who were massacred were given restitution from the colonists, but the land remained in the grips of the murderers.

Restoration of Peace

New Tython, in a time of peace

In 20 ABY, after ten years of tension between the two sides, an attempt was made to live peacefully with the indigenous peoples again. The Tythonians devised a legislative body that handled the mundane affairs of the citizens in order to leave the Jedi to the more egregious concerns.

The Colonial Guaranteed Protection Committee was designed to serve as a body where local affairs could be addressed and handled. The laws passed by this body favored the colonists heavily, but still granted a few rights to the Harakoans. After some time, the Jedi took notice of this and in 27 ABY, the Friendship Committee was formed to eliminate the favoritism present in the current system.

Under the guidance of the Jedi, the new Friendship Committee continued to be the reigning body and peace fell over the people once more. However, many of the Tythonians still felt that more was owed to them and began to lobby for new laws which limited the Harakoans for the few rights they enjoyed.

Breakdown of Communication

In 33 ABY, the Friendship Committee began to notice that some of the laws were weighted towards the Tythonians, but still granted few rights to the Harakoans. With their hands tied by these laws, the Jedi were forced to accede to the Tythonians in many of the cases which caused the Harakoans to begin committing atrocities against the Tythonians once more.

With the Harakoans consistently raiding colonies, the Jedi were forced to step in and put a stop to the fighting. As of 34 ABY, open warfare between the two had all but stopped. However, border colonies and rural tribes still suffered from the antagonism of the two peoples and retaliatory strikes were made. These were almost always settled after a time and few were brought to the Jedi’s notice.

Under Cy's rule, the Tythonian people would be heavily taxed, exploited, and often killed for dissent. This would culminate in 37 ABY with the razing of the colony Varri'alis, an action that sent most Tythonians into full-blown rebellion.

Restoration of Peace

Thuron's rule lasted for all of 37 ABY, while the Jedi bolstered their forces and gathered the equipment and weapons needed to liberate the planet. Tanduran is located on the continent Milil’ea. It contains a population of approximately 20,000 total inhabitants. About ten percent of this population is non-human, living in clustered groups. Dac Compound

Dac Compound

This settlement is comprised entirely of Mon Calamarians and is situated off the coast of Sanulu by approximately six nautical miles. Trade to this settlement is restricted due to the difficulties presented by the city's geographic isolation. Comprised of nearly 10,000 Mon Calamarians and a few Quarrens, this city prefers the ideal of isolationism and is largely forgotten about in many cases by the other cultures on New Tython.

Anchored to a fixed position in the Bythic Ocean by an island six nautical miles east of Sanulu, Dac Compound is considered to be a small city and home primarily to New Tython's amphibious population. A marvel of engineering by the skilled Mon Calamari, Dac Compound is often referred to at the 'Floating City.' Under constant maintainance by the former shipbuilders and engineers, the city completely covers the island with its large, rounded structures - a fairly obvious reminder of Mon Calamari homeworld, Dac's vast floating cities. The city's constant influx of Mon Calamari refugees and inhabitants has posed challenges to the small island's capacity for living space. As a result, Dac Compound had slowly expanded over the years. Extending past the island's shorelines, floating platforms constructed primarily of lightweight alloys used most commonly in shipbuilding had been erected, connected to and stemming from the island.

The rounded and vaulted style of Dac Compound's construction was originally created in reference to the planet Dac, the homeworld of both Quarren and Mon Calamari. Because of the striking similarity to the style of Mon Calamari starships, large portions of Dac Compound were created using various ship parts, remodelled and repurposed to serve as homes, facilities and public structures.

Primary languages spoken in the Dac Compound are Mon Calamari and Galactic Basic.
