"A petty thief is put in prison. A great brigand becomes a ruler of an Empire."
―Joseem Maruuch

Joseem Maruuch is a Sith Warrior within the House Ludo Kressh in the Clan Naga Sadow. He is also the Prefect of the Marakith Skyhook as well as being a Commander within D-SOG.

Character History

Origin

Joseem Maruuch started life onboard a starship. His parents were owners of a small cargo ship and on a run to Coruscant, they had him tested. Joseem was found to have a high enough count of midichlorians for admittance to the Jedi Academy. Joseem rose in time through the ranks of Padawan, but always gave his Masters a hard time. Being Zabrak, he was viewed as independant and strong-willed. Joseem was proud, strong, and confident. His Masters always tried to squash his spirit, as most of how he felt did not go along the precepts of the Jedi. Because of his Zabrak heritage, it was concluded by the Jedi Council that Joseem’s Trial of Courage and Trial of Flesh could be skipped, but his Test of Spirit and Skill would be not be.

Tragedy

The day finally arrived when Joseem would finally leave the Temple. Joseem’s Master gave him a mission to complete. He was to go to Nar Shaddaa, in the Y’Toub system and await further instructions. Two weeks passed while Joseem was on Nar Shaadaa. In that time he had quelled a number of fights, arrested two escaped convicts, and helped a young Ithorian find its older siblings. While going about his other Jedi duties, a man and young boy ran past him carrying a motivator. The feeling that he got from the man was fear. Joseem gave chase and caught up to the man within a few yards. The man looked at him and saw only what he thought was a Jedi Knight. Telling Joseem that he had no business with him, the man turned away as if to run.

Joseem thought otherwise, as now he felt anger and frustration coming from the man. Joseem asked him about the item he had in his hand. The man started to get a crazed look in his eye. Joseem prepared to calm the man down when he sensed danger. Joseem turned and ignited his Lightsaber. He heard a scream, but concentrated on the blaster bolts instead. Two Weequay were shooting in his direction. Using his Lightsaber, he sent the bolts back towards the Weequay, knocking the blasters from their hands. He used the Force and took the legs out from under them, and then jumped close to them. Joseem put his Lightsaber close to both of them and asked them why they were shooting at him. The Weequay were baffled and told him they were after the one he had been talking to. They said that he took back his motivator after he had paid them and that they only wanted to use the motivator a little longer.

Joseem had a bad feeling deep down in his soul. He turned around and saw the man was on the ground. He ran back and saw that the young boy was holding the man’s hand and crying. The young boy accused him of killing his Father on purpose.

Joseem saw the hate and sadness in the young boy’s eyes. He realized that when he had turned around, he had ignited his saber behind him, not realizing how close the man had been. The horror of the situation started to encroach on Joseem. He started off slowly, back to his apartment. He was running at full speed by the time he got there.

Joseem went inside his dwelling. He looked at his holopad and noticed there was a message. With a sense of foreboding, he played the message. His Master said that The council had ordered him back to Coruscant. Upon returning to the Jedi Temple, The Council decided that Joseem's destiny lay elsewhere and asked him to leave. Joseem, being a proud Zabrak, took this as an affront to his dignity. He stormed out of the Temple and swore that the Jedi would pay for setting him up to fail.

The Brotherhood

Finding a new way

Years passed for Joseem in the Outer Rim. He had taken a Delta-7 Aethersprite when he left the Jedi Temple, so he was able to hop from planet to planet, doing odd jobs and letting the Force guide him. Joseem made sure to stay away from the Galactic Civil War and when he had heard of the Great Jedi Purge, he had thrown away his lightsaber and all other Jedi clothing. It was after the purge that he was working near the Antei System. Joseem was busy running glitterstim to one of the local space station drug lords when his little Delta-7 Aethersprite was contacted by a Sith patrol. Told to hold still and allow his ship to be searched, Joseem instead lashed out with the Force. The attack stunned the sentients who were closing in, and Joseem fired his afterburners to escape.

Little did he know that the ships had been under the command of Shin'ichi Endymiron Keibatsu, who at the time had one of his Black Guard spies in the patrol. Sensing much potential and anger, as well as hatred, coming from Joseem, Shin’ichi ordered him captured and brought to him. Joseem was kept with ysalamiri, and was finally brought before the Questor. After the ysalamiri were taken away, Shin’ichi sent a tendril of thought towards Joseem and was surprised when it was sent back. Shin’ichi then sent Joseem flying through the air to slam into the far wall of the audience chamber. Joseem got up, not much worse for wear due to his origins. At once he tried to calm his anger, but it was Shin’ichi that found the way to Joseem’s deepest desires. He told him to let go of his anger, to direct it towards those that had kept him down, to lash out at a system that was weak and corrupt and most of all, dead. He told Joseem that he would show him a way to keep from living on the fringe of society, to obtain that with which he had sought so hard in his time at the Jedi Temple. He would teach him to be a Master of the Force, of its Dark and powerful side.

Apprenticeship

Joseem’s time at the Shadow Academy was spent delving into the mysteries of the Dark Side of the Force. He once again took up a Lightsaber and continued to become even more proficient then he had been at the Jedi Temple. Whenever he would think about calming himself, he would get angry and then use that anger to channel more power through his body. Joseem started to rise in rank and was made a Guardian. It was during this time that he was captured by agents of the Peace Brigade masquerading as pirates. Their insidious purposes were to study the Guardian in the hopes of exposing some inherent weakness in the Brotherhood as a whole. As a testament to his own skill and to the training methods of his mentor, Joseem escaped and evaded capture by the Yuuzhan Vong to return to what remained of Brotherhood space. This long journey lasted a year.

On the Run

Joseem was witness to many battles and atrocities the Yuuzhan Vong perpetrated on Force users. Joseem thought it best to go into hiding, as he had done from the Jedi. His route back to Antei had been cut off, and now that he was a Guardian of the Brotherhood, he would have to fight his way through too many battles in the inner systems. Joseem headed for the Unknown Regions. Once the Vong were defeated by the Brotherhood, it was only then that he returned from Rogue status. He was welcomed back, as any Force user of the Dark Side was welcome to make the Brotherhood stronger.

The Return

Joseem as Black Guard

As Joseem reacquainted himself with the Brotherhood and its inner workings, he learned that his friend Tsingtao Ming had been made a Dark Jedi Knight, as well as Prefect of Gamuslag. Joseem spent his time on Gamuslag with the Dlarit Special Operations Group, continuing his training. It was here that his efforts started to pay off again as he was raised to Jedi Hunter. As his powers grew, Tsingtao saw fit to grant Joseem the honor of choosing him to be his Black Guard, as was Tsingtao's right as Aiedile.

On The Rise

The Prefect's Office

Because of his abilities in the field, commanding a Delta-class Advanced Commando squad during the Battle of Lehon, Joseem was awarded the position of Battle Team Leader of the Jade Serpents, as well as a promotion to Dark Jedi Knight. During his time on Gamuslag, while running the Jade Serpents, Joseem started to offer his services to Aeotheran and the city of Seng Karash. This help was in the form of standardizng the Dlarit Police Force. Those that did not fall inline were subsequently punished, said to have been transfered. These individuals were never heard from again. Joseem was given the position of Prefect of the Marakith Skyhook and soon after, a promotion to Sith Warrior.

Plans Within Plans

Joseem, having moved off of Gamuslag and with the help of his droid, Feema, oversees the operations of the Skyhook and all who dwell in it. Noticing movement within the Clan, He had Feema do some research into monies and material being moved. Joseem suspected that a move against the Yuuzhan Vong was imminent. With the cover of a war, he saw that plans he had laid years ago could be advanced on his time table. Underworld connections he had made while "cleaning up" the Dlarit Police Force would soon bear fruit. As a Sith, he had laid an intricate web, and he was living up to his station.
