The Dlarit Armed Forces are a joint Military corps consisting of the Army, Marines and Special Operations units under the command of the Special Operations Group. While prior to the Corporation's reorganization much of the Armed Forces fell under the command of the Security Force these recent changes have seen a large degree of control shifted to the Chief of Staff, under the command of the Board of Directors, to co-ordinate the Special Operations Group's dedicated ground forces whenever conflicts arise.
History
When the Dlarit Corporation was initially founded in 7 ABY, it was deemed necessary to create a dedicated armed forces to protect the interests of the newborn industry from outside threats. Due largely to the influence of the Corporation's Viceroy in the Phare system, the armed forces grew though largely through the Viceroy's own loyal forces. Following the Corporation's relocation to the Orian system in 19 ABY, the associated forces under their employ grew into a full standing Armed Forces under the command of the Dlarit Security Force. As time went on, the Security Force found themselves in increasingly difficult struggles until things came to a head during the Battle of Antei.
Following the Battle of Antei in 27 ABY and the heavy losses throughout the Dlarit Security Force, the Dlarit Corporation was forced to drastically rethink its military policy. As part of the reforms, the Dlarit Special Operations Group was created to serve as a unit aware of the corporation's true nature. The processes following this reformation allowed the Corporation to better direct and focus their forces though still much of this ran through the civilian channels to co-ordinate the different branches of the Armed Forces.
In 33 ABY the Corporation saw a large reorganization of much of its assets in a move for greater cohesion and unity. A part of that reorganization was the formation of a proper Armed Forces, uniting all military assets under the Special Operations Group and thus the purview of the Board of Directors as much of their resources were being supplied from gracious benefactor. With this change, the Dlarit Security Force became more of a standardized police force operating throughout Orian under the guidance of civilian directors while the bulk of the military power remained in the hands of the Corporation's true masters.
Service Branches
Army
As with most standing armed forces, the Dlarit Army is comprised of your standard Infantry, Armored and Artillery divisions; while much of this had formerly been under the direct command of the Dlarit Security Force, this has now been rectified and is located firmly in the command of the Special Operations Group. Unlike some of the other service branches, the Army finds itself under the direct leadership of the Chief of Staff, presently Byron Cargas.
Often the Army finds themselves performing drills though in recent times they have distinguished themselves in the defense of the Orian system during the Orian Incursion as well as during external engagements such as the Invasion of New Tython.
Where the Board of Directors is perceived to provide the military services from their own revenue, this is instead provided by a mysterious benefactor and thus limits the extent to which the Army can recruit and deploy forces. The present state and number of these forces is always known courtesy of these benefactors and through their own internal census.
Marines
The Marine Corps is a specialized branch of the Dlarit Armed Forces specifically co-ordinating with the Dlarit Naval Command. Due to this unique nature, these units do fall under the command of the Chief of Staff but are directly led by a Commandant, presently Thallad Brenton, whom has been appointed by the Chief of Staff and the Fleet Admiral. Members of the Marine Corps serve exclusively aboard the ships of Special Operations Group and as such are skilled in boarding action as well as repelling opposing parties.
Marines were a necessary development within the Armed Forces as the Battle of Antei and the additional conflicts with the Yuuzhan Vong which followed had seen conflict led by senior personnel in their natural element. Due to this complicated matter, loyal Marine forces of the Special Operations Group have been firmly planted upon most vessels within the Naval Command.
Special Operations
Employing their senior personnel in addition to a gathering of loyally trained Clone Commandos, the Special Operations division of the Dlarit Armed Forces are typically the last resort or assigned to high-profile targets during major military engagements. While the Senior personnel are more than enough for most engagements, the Commandos were introduced to provide a more secure command structure as well as immediately bolster their forces with experienced soldiers. Following the Battle of Antei, the depreciated forces of the Dlarit war-machine were in need of a serious call-to-arms. As such the Corporation thought forward, aware that they couldn't just drum up the experienced soldiers they needed in a short time, they instead sought out cloning as an option.
Initial cloning began late in 27 ABY after the Corporation acquired a number of Spaarti cylinders on Jaginos from a rogue Kaminoan scientist. While the Corporation had originally planned to create an army of Delta-class Advanced Commandos, this project was put on hold indefinitely following the Battle of Antei. Instead, the Corporation decided to speed up the cloning program, producing skilled troopers rather than advanced commandos. While not as able as the small number of Advanced Commandos, these clones were as good as any recruit and helped quickly flesh out the ranks of the Special Operations Group.
While these clones were sufficient to serve on the front line or man the gunnery platforms of the warships, the Corporation was dissatisfied with their ability to analyze unfamiliar situations. Since the Delta-Class project was too costly to restore, the Corporation chose to compromise and assigned a limited number of their Spaarti cylinders to the production of the Commandos now operating within the Special Operations branch. These commandos, unlike the clone troopers consisting of a large number of the Army, exhibit a greater degree of independence and skill over a normal recruit, though they still pale before the proficiency of the Delta-Class Commandos.
In 33 ABY, the Corporation's Spaarti cylinders were destroyed by a group of unknown infiltrators which lead to an end of their own production of soldiers and commandos as well as the final nail in the coffin for the Delta-Class program. Moving forward, all clone troopers supplied to the Corporation by their benefactors.
Trivia
- Following the introduction of Military Possessions for Clans and Houses, it became clear that the Special Operations Group must take control of these assets; shifting the Corporation's organization and effectively leaving the Dlarit Security Force nearly defunct and consolidating articles such as the Dlarit Army, Commandos, Marines and Troopers into a single cohesive article instead of stubs
