History
In 30 ABY, following the destruction of the Jusadih System, House Plagueis was forced to flee aboard the badly-damaged Ascendancy. Faced with few options, Quaestor Tra'an Reith used the slaving skill of the Saraask'ar to rebuild the military force of the House.
Those slaves fit for service were taken back to The Anchorage and conditioned to serve. While those who showed greater mental acuity and skill were made Subjugates, those better-suited for combat and violence were put through intense training to increase their brutality, make them athletic and strong, and increase their stamina.

Unit Structure

Within the Ascendant Legion, all officers from the platoon level and above were drawn from the ranks of The Willing. These soldiers were not slaves, but were instead either remnants of the Jusadih Military Regime or recruits gained after the fall of the system. Each squad, however, was lead by a single Ravager that was singled out from his fellows and given the simple title of "First". The First was responsible for controlling his unit and implementing the orders of his officers, and was also tasked with directly disciplining or executing those under his command if they failed in their assigned tasks.
Since being freed the Ravagers who reenlisted often serve as infantry specialists, or junior nco's in other combat units. A small few have even been promoted to junior officer ranks in the Ascendant Legion.
Skills and Capabilities
Two distinct varieties of Ravager existed prior to their emancipation, fulfilling the roles of infantry and heavy infantry respectively. Though 'Ravager pure' task oriented infantry units no longer exist in the Ascendant legion, individual and small cadres of Ravagers are still a part of nearly every active, non droid, infantry unit the clan has on active service. Though the terms are no longer used officially, the 2 types are;
- Ravager Warrior: Standard infantry, typically armored for regular engagements and armed with rifles and melee weaponry, as well as grenades. They filled the role of standard infantry on the field of battle.
- Ravager Enforcer: Armed with heavier weapons such as repeaters, concussion weaponry, missile systems and assault cannons, these Ravagers were chosen out of the stronger slaves and went into battle heavily armored. They filled the role of heavy infantry, and were often tasked with taking fortified positions and destroying larger targets.
In addition, all Ravagers possess an iron will due to fear for their former Masters. If given a task, they will perform it, regardless of other obstacles. Deviations from this resulted in painful death for the individual involved and agonizing punishment for all other Ravagers, done in a way that only reinforced the deific way they regard Plagueian Dark Jedi. Discipline was so strong with them that Ravagers would often kill an unruly or disobedient member themselves and offer his corpse to their Masters as a showing of fealty. Occurences of honor code fratricides are nearly unheard of since being given their freedom though.
Ultimately, Ravagers were only as content as their last victory in battle. This mindset was instilled in them from day one, and thus, as Ravagers become restless, they will spend more time training for combat and reinforcing their discipline. This kept them deadly and efficient at all times, and above all, helped their devotion to the Plagueian cause.
Weapons and Equipment
Ravager armor is a system very similar to that developed for the Galactic Empire's Stormtrooper Corps. Much like the Imperial suit, the wearer's vital areas are protected by armor plates, with a black bodysuit underneath. The armor offers significant protection and combat capabilities, while also driving the former slave within to be a fearsome soldier. Former Ravager slaves who were reinducted into the Ascendant Legion were immediately authorized to retain and use their Ravager armor while assigned to combat units. It was also announced publicly that all other Ravagers had loyally returned their armour to their masters before being set free. But it is an open secret that they only notionally relinquished their gear as the clans leaders refused to accept the gear and quietly declared it as 'surplus'. The leadership also saw this as a way to entice continued feilty and a sense of loyalty within the now freed ranks of fanatical men.
Ravager armament was varied in model but still quite lethal; all of their weapons were either of current military standard or had been upgraded to meet or rival said standard. Those remaining in the Ascendant forces now use a variety of blasters, grenades, blades, cudgels, and heavy weapons, all have one thing in common - they, like those who weild them are made to kill.
