Morgan Bartholomew Sorenn is the founder of the Shroud Syndicate, crime boss, former Herald, and former Deputy Grand Master.
She is a Nar Shaddaan by birth, spacer by choice and mercenary by necessity who leads a life devoid of restrictions or bylaws. The only loyalty she holds is the one that is useful to her, and not many deserve that privilege. She is a troubled individual with many dark and terrible secrets. Her involvement with the Dark Brotherhood veers into the illicit and the dangerous, but it is a lifestyle she is accustomed to, a lifestyle where she can tread her path and live free.
Character History
Childhood {0ABY - 18 ABY}
- "Our past is always with us."
- ―Unknown
Morgan was born in 0 ABY and lived out her early years on Nar Shaddaa with her mother, a cantina owner from Corellia named Rosalin Sorenn; her father, a Nar Shaddaan small-time criminal named Ian Arrel who worked for the Hutts; and her brother, Turel, who was three years her elder.
Her very earliest life was spent in the cantina, with her mother. As a small urchin, Morgan became the veritable mascot of the cantina and got to know all the guests, especially the regulars. Morgan was an energetic child with a wild imagination, often fixated on the larger world and galaxy, often listening wide-eyed to stories the spacers brought with them through her mother's bar. Her mother was poor but she provided Morgan and her brother enough, while their father conducted his business and rarely brought anything home. She slowly became accustomed to life in the slums of the city, where criminals and cutthroats ruled.
Having many friends on the street — especially children from other households and aliens who lived a life not unlike her own — made her very open to new cultures. Nar Shaddaa had a way of bringing children closer together despite their skin color, heritage, or species and it influenced Morgan's sensibilities toward other species immensely. It was a virtue that would follow her later in life as well, in business deals and leadership.
She learned the quirks of most alien species and even humans very quickly and at a young age. Even in her early years, she was an accomplished manipulator, able to persuade or dissuade others with relative ease. As she grew older she slowly became a waitress and by her teens she was a “professional” listener, often hearing the same sob stories over and over again and helping patrons with their issues with a few well-placed words while refilling glasses and making a solid profit. Psychology became her source of income and her greatest weapon and the more she used it the better she became at manipulating people to do what she wanted.
Her mother was the one who insisted the girl learn how to run the bar, and at a very early age, Morgan was already independent enough to lead the bar by herself, teaching her how to be independent and self-sufficient. It was fun and games for her under her mother’s wing, that is until the day her brother grew up and went off to be a Hutt enforcer like his father.
Late teen years {18 ABY - 24 ABY}
Family ties {18 ABY - 20 ABY}
Even though Turel was still with her most of the time, his departure into the criminal underworld left Morgan feeling uneasy and left a feeling of emptiness in their home when he was out on business. She loved her brother — he was, after all, her best friend — and knowing he may die any given day put a lot of stress on the teenage girl. Every time her brother went out on a raid or a job for the Hutts she would worry until the moment he returned home. It took her some time to adjust, and with time she came to trust in her brother’s abilities. Luck was on his side — something that, she would find out later, ran in the family.
As years passed, Morgan grew up into a beautiful woman, with many of her customers jokingly asking her to marry them. Her beauty didn’t escape more insidious eyes, however. Most of the gangsters from her neighborhood took a liking to her, some showing genuine interest and care, others unpleasantly catcalling or grabbing where they shouldn't whenever she passed by. Ironically, it was her father’s influence and reputation that kept most of the lowlifes at bay, but she would find out soon enough that her father's interests in her veered into the deprived and vile.
A Mother’s Woe {18 ABY}
- "An empty mind is like a freshly turned sod; if not sown with the seeds of love and compassion, insidious weeds will take root."
- ―Unknown
Morgan’s father had always been a heartless tyrant, always forcing his control on the family when he was around despite not putting a whole lot into it. Abusive towards Rosalin, at times to the point of violence, he was a heavy drinker and opiate user as well as a vile personality with vileness only surpassed by his ego. He had little love for his children, seeing them as nothing more than tools in his bid for power in the depths of Nar Shaddaa, justified in his belief that the galaxy was harsh and unruly by nature. However, Morgan's mother had kept her daughter safe from his influence and meddling for most of her childhood because she knew what Ian was like, though she would later find out that she never truly ‘’knew’’ the man nor the depths of his deranged personality. His world revolved around credits, women, and wealth; his family came second.
When Morgan reached eighteen, her father turned his attention towards her more intently than before. Where before there was a meddling urchin he had little interest in, he now saw a resource to be exploited. Seeing her as a good source of profit, he made a deal with a local procurer — they’d share the profits, as long as she worked the streets. Morgan was forced to sell her body to the most grotesque dwellers in the underworld, all for her father’s greed. He kept her engaged by threatening to harm her mother and brother, or by beating and blackmailing her in other ways, so Morgan bit her tongue and endured. She kept the truth from her mother, out of shame and fear — fear of losing her and Turel, but also of being beaten to death or worse. And beaten she was, many times over. Many of the “customers” had a particularly deranged sense of "fun" and soon Morgan’s fall to her lowest point began.
Misery {20 ABY - 24 ABY}
It was a traumatic experience for a twenty-year-old, and many times she acted the cheerful and happy girl for her mother’s sake, but cracks started appearing a year into the ordeal, as her situation grew steadily worse and worse. Her mother suspected something was wrong, but whenever she brought it up Morgan brushed her off and changed the subject. At first, her mother attributed this behavior to puberty and hormones, however, when it did not change even after several years — in fact, it became worse, what with her working for her father nearly every night — her mother confronted her more aggressively and the two fought on many occasions. Life became a perpetual circle of misery for the young girl.
It wasn’t until Morgan found herself in the care of a local med-doc, with a face bruised and beaten up so badly she was hardly recognizable, that her mother persuaded her to tell her the truth. The shock and grief at what was happening nearly destroyed Rosalin. She had suffered a stroke and was rushed to an operation ward where she remained for weeks before recovering. Once Rosalin had recovered, and as soon as she was home, she packed her bags and intended to escape with her daughter to Corellia, to find safe refuge with whatever was left of Rosalin’s family there. Though fearful for her own and Turel’s life, Morgan could not endure another day and went along with the plan.
Despite their best efforts, however, Morgan’s father found out. Keeping Morgan imprisoned under guard, he sent his goons to kill his own wife for daring to defy him. With grief in her heart and no other choice but to buy some time, Morgan’s mother fled Nar Shaddaa with Turel’s help, leaving both her children behind.
Back on Nar Shaddaa, Morgan hit her lowest point after her mother disappeared, so much so that she considered ending her own life many times just to escape the nightmare. She was a broken husk of her former self, left with no hope for a future and no recourse but to stay. She didn’t know her mother had escaped until months later when Turel found her with a stolen blaster in her mouth, ready to pull the trigger, streams of tears flowing from her clear blue eyes. He told her the truth about Rosalin's escape, and after a long and tearful talk made her reconsider her suicidal thoughts.
Despite his job, Turel was always caring and warm toward Morgan, especially in her time of need. He kept looking for means to help her escape, calling on favors, paying massive amounts of credits, and even killing for a chance to help his sister. As usual, their father saw to it that he wouldn’t be able to. Morgan was just too profitable to him. He closed her off from the world, keeping her imprisoned in one of his partner’s "public" houses, only to be pulled out of the darkness when she was needed. Morgan’s mind coped in whatever way it could, steering ever so slowly into madness. Again, her imagination took over to pass the time and suppress the horror, creating comforting stories and hallucinations for herself. It was only later when she was fully trained in the ways of the Force that she understood that during her lowest point only her innate Force abilities helped her remain sane, and helped her to develop a hard mental shell around her mind that, later in life, none would be able to break.
Some measure of justice {24 ABY}
After her disappearance, Turel searched for days, looking for his sister, but could not find her. Not in the cantina, not in their home nor at any of her friends’ homes. His father noticed his quizzical behavior and made a deal with the Hutts to send him away on a mission “never to bother him again”. Blaming Morgan for Turel’s behavior, her father beat her senseless day after day after which she was handed to the worst scum on Nar Shaddaa and endured the worst mental and physical torture.
Morgan was eighteen years old when she considered suicide again, but with no weapons of any kind in the small room she was kept in, her agony was prolonged, that is until Turel returned. To this day Morgan is unsure what really happened, but she remembers death, blood and the smell of burning bodies from that day. Turel found her locked in the solitary, barren room in a Hutt spice den and carried her in his arms to safety. Together they escaped their father’s grasp and found a temporary safe haven with some of Turel’s friends on Nar Shaddaa.
Shattered Memories {24 ABY - 25 ABY}
Morgan found a new life away from her father, but that life was fraught with fear and sleepless nights. The horrors she endured haunted her for a long time, and whenever Turel wasn’t close, she would fall into a deep depression, nightmares returning to her in the night and shadows scaring her during the day. Despite Turel’s best efforts, he had a hard time reaching his sister. He blamed himself for everything and promised he’d never let her endure such a fate again. They lived like that for a year when Morgan, now much more lucid and self-reliant, had realized that she would have to escape Nar Shaddaa to escape her past, Her's wasn't the life in a bar, nor on the Shadow moon. She had to find her own path and heal.
Adulthood {25 ABY - 28 ABY}
A new beginning {25 ABY}
Morgan remembered her mother’s stories about her family on Corellia and with no other place to go, Morgan sought a ship to take her to Corellia. Leaving a message for Turel on the small holo table she boarded a small freighter and launched off with their crew. The ship was named “Coronet Star” and her captain, Valek Starroy, gladly accepted Morgan into his crew as compensation for a ride to Corellia. His crew was a rag-tag gang of spacers and Morgan worked with them, learned from them, and absorbed the life of a spacer through nearly a year of travel. She even met a woman she had become romantically entangled with, a Sephi mechanic named Neina Senn. The two spent their days together, Morgan learning about the ship’s ins and outs from Neina.
It was only after several months of flirting and befriending that Morgan let go and truly embraced Neina’s advances. It was then that Neina learned something of Morgan’s troubled past though Morgan left many of the crucial details out of her story. It took them a long time to become intimate, though doing so with Neina helped Morgan mend many of the wounds she had suffered. A trust formed between the two, enough for Morgan to embrace the romance.
By the time she had paid off her original agreement, Morgan had become part of the family of the “Star” and she had learned so much more about life in space that she was reluctant to leave. Eventually, the ship did land on Corellia and Morgan had to bid them farewell. By that point, her relationship with Neina had advanced far further than anyone had expected and Neina followed her, leaving the “Star” behind.
Grief, anger, revenge {26 ABY}
After months of searching, Morgan did eventually find her mother — on a cemetery outside Coronet City. She was devastated. She had hoped beyond all hope that she would find her mother alive and well, that she would embrace her lost daughter into loving arms and take her into her home. All she found was pain, bitterness, and an even deeper hatred for her father who kept her on Nar Shaddaa. She planted a kiss on the tombstone, leaving it and the painful memories, she thought, for the last time.
Pretty soon Morgan and Neina had found themselves out of work and out of money. They found a place to stay in the underground levels of Coronet City - nothing more than a single room, but it served their purposes. Neina comforted her girlfriend as much as she could, and for days Morgan mourned, unable to accept the fact that her life was in complete ruins. Neina was the only person she had had to rely on at the time.
For several months they had lived in hovels and dens, doing whatever small-time jobs they could find. Once again Morgan found herself under the thumb of one crimelord or another. Crime, it had seemed, was the only way for her and Neina to find some decent credits, hoping to save enough to escape once more. The dreams were cut short when, one faithful day as she returned from work, Morgan found Neina murdered in their hovel. Throat slit and body lifeless, Neina's expression was that of horror and tears left in a timeless grimace. The sight of her left Morgan's shocked, gasping for air and clutching at white strands of hair in desperation. That night Morgan’s mournful scream echoed through the Force, shattering windows and eardrums of unwitting bystanders on the streets of Coronet City. Doors splintered, walls shook and the wind stopped in its tracks as if to mourn with her.
Morgan spent the night cradling Neina’s dead body, sobbing and seemingly losing her mind until an enforcer patrol eventually found her in the debris-filled room. She was interrogated and told that Neina had been raped and shot to death by a local gang calling themselves the ‘’Silver Skulls’’. They were known for such atrocities, and more, and were hardly looked at by CorSec on the best of days, just another small fish in a pond of sharks. Charges against the perpetrators were promised but the case was shelved after a mere week of investigation.
Stricken by grief, infuriated, and in search of revenge, Morgan sought out any information on the ‘’Skulls’’. Eventually, she had found their rivals, a swoop gang called ‘’Red Barons’’. Their reputation for brutality equaled the ‘’Skulls’’’, yet Morgan had little choice but to join them to achieve her goals. They were her only lead.
With her life as tough as it was, Morgan had lost all of her femininity and beauty making it easy to pose as someone else and hide her identity. Being a man, at the time, made her life much easier for many reasons, so she cut her hair, dressed up in male clothing she had stolen from a drug addict, changed her name to Bartholomew and ventured into the ‘’Red Barons’ hideout. She was truthful about wanting to join the gang, however, she kept her true motives hidden. Her bitter need for revenge made it far too easy to manipulate the simpletons, though there was likely a much more ethereal influence there than she ever knew. The Force was with her in all her endeavors, and that ever-present Sorenn luck seemed to follow her everywhere. She learned how to ride a swoop bike fairly quickly and her mannerisms soon reflected her comrades, but most importantly she had many more contacts on Corellia thanks to the gang’s errands for the Black Sun.
Swoop knight {27 ABY - 29 ABY}
Almost a year after she joined, Morgan was already an expert in handling a blaster, and though her riding skills lacked some flair, she was getting nearer and nearer to her goal, building influence and clout more and more with every day. When their gang became large enough, Morgan influenced the ‘’Barons’’’ leader to attack the ‘’Skulls’’ and take what was “rightfully theirs.” The gangs were under tension for a long time, fighting over territory and merchandise, with smaller skirmishes and bar fights erupting from time to time. It was a small matter of murdering one of her gang members and placing some "evidence" of Skulls activity and the floodgates were open.
The order was given and the ‘’Barons’’ invaded the ‘’Skulls’’’ territory. An all-out gang war broke out, involving several other gangs and CorSec, most notably, who intervened when the violence became too widespread. But the war was short-lived. Morgan personally put the barrel of her pistol into the ‘’Skull’s’’ leader’s mouth and pulled the trigger after hacking off each of his fingers for every member of his gang that raped Neina. The display of gory violence sickened even her gang, while the expression of complete satisfaction on her face gave everyone involved pause. It was at that time that Morgan's fall to the Dark Side was all but guaranteed and her life path set — she was a criminal, a brutal tyrant, and soon to be a crime boss. CorSec put out an all-points bulletin looking for the members of the ‘’Barons’’ and many were imprisoned while most escaped and went about their work. Morgan, her desire for vengeance sated, disappeared from Corellia.
Pirata Codex {29 ABY - 31 ABY}
Corsec searched for Morgan for months and finally found her a year later working for a pirate crew. She had shed her male persona to keep them off her trail and joined the Torrent, a Nebulon-B frigate used to conduct pirate raids on smaller vessels on the Hydian Way. The Torrent was notorious for attacking ships that carried valuable goods and contraband for the Black Sun into the Inner Rim. They had a grim reputation of being cutthroats, murderers, and kidnappers, and their standing with the Black Sun was disfavorable enough to gain all of them a bounty on their heads.
Bounty hunters a-plenty came around and were returned in body bags, because of the captain of the Torrent’, a human named Shado Numa, an elderly pirate of many decades of experience and slowly degrading mental faculties. He was quick, cunning, wise, and never a step behind and he took Morgan in when she came aboard, seeing in her his estranged daughter whom he was unable to induct into "the life". He sheltered Morgan from the rest of the crew, though she hardly needed any protection at that point. She had become a hardened, murderous individual. Soon enough though, Morgan became friendly with the rest of the crew and became “one of the boys”, her skills with a gun bringing with them some much-needed acclaim as many of them often joked that she could shoot the hair off of the captain’s balding head without waking him from his daily naps. She had found a better life on that ship than she ever had on Nar Shaddaa and had accepted her newfound spacer identity and enjoyed every moment of it.
Despite their apparent freedom, the crew of the Torrent had been under near-constant attack from rival pirate raiders, New Republic authorities, and even the First Order. Why the Order wanted the pirates removed was always a mystery, but that did force them into an uneasy alliance with some New Republic elements. Just around 32 ABY, Captain Numa decided to ally the Torrent with the Resistance movement that was starting to appear. At first, it was only for their benefit, expecting protection and security in numbers, however, Captain Numa eventually decided to join the Resistance despite his crews' grumbling. The Torrent became a glorified freighter and occasional defense ship for the Resistance's fringe cells. Eventually, this became an issue for the crew.
Captain Numa may have taken Morgan in, but she never had love for the man. In her dark mood and even darker demeanor, she saw him and everyone else on the ship, at best, as a means to an end. All she ever considered at the time was a better place for herself and as a young woman in the crew, she knew her status could change on a whim if someone other than Numa had taken on the captaincy. Morgan connived and plotted for years to gain an advantage when her plan concluded. Just after her thirty-second birthday, she got her chance.
The captain had become far more erratic, almost zealous about the Resistance movement, forcefully dragging his ship and crew into increasingly more dangerous endeavors with little gain. The war with the First Order and the crew's reluctance to go about doing the Republic's dirty work lead to a silent rebellion among the ranks but only two major players had enough influence to overthrow the captain, and they were opposed: a human named Isaac Ardinn and a Twi'lek named Proc Nalto, Numa's first officer.
Morgan found Isaac easier to manipulate and weighed her support in his favor. Nalto was, however, not an easy opponent. A brute and enforcer, Nalto found it his way in life was to make others suffer, while Isaac simply wanted a return to their old, pirating ways. Morgan urged Isaac to be patient. Weeks would pass before either of the two sides made their moves, and they did. Nalto went straight for the head, confronting Captain Numa with several of his selected thugs in the hopes of intimidating and removing the old man permanently. A foolish attempt ended with his death as Morgan informed Captain Numa of the goings-on ahead of time, preparing a trap for the Twi'lek and his lackeys. For her loyalty, Numa appointed Morgan first officer and gave Isaac the position of Quartermaster. Unlike many grumbling voices, Isaac welcomed their new first officer and all too often flirted with her, showing plainly his affections.
As first officer Morgan had plenty of influence over the captain and, slowly, the crew returned to decent pirating in addition to the odd Resistance job, but eventually that too ended. Numa returned to his old ways sometime in 32 ABY and this time nothing could save him. The pirates forced Morgan's and Isaac's hand and, finally, Numa was deposed and stranded on a colony world in the Outer Rim, his fate unknown.
Days of rejoicing followed the mutiny as the crew was finally rid of the annoying Resistance. They stalked the Outer Rim with Morgan as their captain, C'ree as their first mate, and Isaac as their first officer. In a mere six months, they had brought the ship from a near-unrepairable state to a well-known and respected pirate raider. In honor of Morgan's exploits as captain and the number of body bags filled throughout the Outer and Inner Rim, other crews and law enforcement rechristened the ship Crimson Queen. The monicker remained.
Keelhauled {32 ABY}
Two years of successful raiding brought Morgan's crew many riches and a fierce reputation in criminal circles. Their feud and debt to the Black Sun all but paid off, they were free agents profiteering off of the First Order-Resistance war, though as time passed and the aggression between the two large factions escalated, it became increasingly harder and harder to raid now well-armed and protected freighters. In many encounters they barely escaped with their lives and ship intact, grabbing only a meek bounty before the escorts and reinforcements descended on the frigate.
Tensions grew with the crew as months went by with poor offerings, and some even advocated joining the First Order as mercenaries, a job which at the time garnered much wealth but little respect from their peers. Morgan refused any such notion, quoting Numa's foolishness at aligning with the Resistance. To her, including her first mate C'ree, her Quartermaster Isaac Ardinn and some of the crew, aligning with the First Order would invalidate their desire for freedom.
During this time, Isaac's advances towards Morgan bore fruit, finally gaining him her affection. Their relationship blossomed though they kept their interactions private and away from the sight of the crew. The two shared much together, including eventually their disproval of the path the crew was going and wanting to leave the life, perhaps for something better. The decision to leave was easy to agree on but difficult to accomplish. Their situation was dire, assaulted as they were on many sides. As their reputation plummeted with the Resistance, the Republic, and the First Order, increasingly more neutral factions washed their hands off them, blocking safe passage and safe harbor for the wayward ship. Much of the work they did find was with the Black Sun who, ever greedy and vengeful, took a huge slice of the profits off the top. Mutiny, now ingrained into the crew by Morgan's actions years ago, soon brewed under the surface and factions began developing again.
It was in early 33 ABY, when a failed job incurred debt to the Black Sun and failed to make any profit, that the crew's disapproval of Morgan's leadership first reared its head publically. A senior engineer, one Badrem Gent — an Iktotchi whose disapproval of Morgan was well known but tolerated — accused Morgan of negligence for the crew, for their work, and insulted both her and Isaac for their less-than-liked relationship. A Quartermaster who beds his Captain, he had said, forgets his duties to his crew. Frustrated and angry beyond words for his blatant display of disobedience, Morgan had the man airlocked into space, his dead body and silent scream a reminder to all not to question her decisions. Gent was the straw that broke any semblance of control Morgan had over her crew and whatever support she had gained soon dried away leaving her exposed. It wasn't long until the sharks started swimming around her.
Judgment came for them in the form of the ship's bosun, a Corellian named Julian Reiles. He had gathered several disparate factions within the crew and waited for his moment. It was during a raid on a relatively small freighter, when C'ree and the assault teams were away from the ship, that he struck the final blow. Blocking all exits and detaching the Crimson Queen from her prey, he led his mutineers into the captain's quarters where Morgan and Isaac were discussing the raid. They seized them both after shots were exchanged and two of his men lay dead on the cold floor, dragging them to the same airlock where Morgan had jettisoned Gent months before. Isaac, in desperation and rage, attacked the bosun and bit off a piece of his ear which earned him the morbid human's ire. Morgan watching, Reiles took his knife and skinned the flesh off of Isaac's face before burying a knife in his heart. Morgan's rage at the sight of yet another murdered lover was palpable in the air. Electricity crackled around her, eyes alight with ethereal energy, her piercing scream tore the eardrums out of every ear in the room, and lightning from her bound hands turned several men into smoking cinders. Her uncontrolled display of power shocked and paralyzed many of the mutineers who cowered in fear or simply ran. It was only when Reiles' Clawdite enforcer, Gurth Gadan slammed the but of his rifle against the back of Morgan's head that the onslaught ended.
Unconscious and defeated, Morgan was put into a spacesuit with limited air and lashed to the dead body of Isaac before being jettisoned out of the airlock. She memorized the self-aggrandizing speech Reiles gave her through her com, as well as the laughter of his crew as they jumped into hyperspace, leaving Morgan alone in space with the mutilated remains of the man she loved most.
Queen of the Shroud {33 ABY - 38 ABY}
Reemergence {33 ABY}
The circumstances of Morgan's survival of her ordeal with the mutiny are somewhat of a mystery. It is likely that Turel, already a Jedi Knight of Odan-Urr at the time, sensed his sister's distress and rushed to help her. Speculations that Morgan herself, in her half-lucid state, reached out to Turel with her latent abilities and asked for help out of desperation. Either way, she was found floating on the outskirts of the Felucian system, medically dead for hours. She was brought to New Tython in a bacta tank and weeks of recovery followed. During her time on New Tython Morgan found a place to grieve and recover, as well as a place to learn about her abilities and a way to focus them into a precise instrument.
Much like her brother, Morgan was intensely strong in the Force, but unlike Turel who overcame his experiences and accepted his past, Morgan's past and her unwillingness to forgive poisoned her mind and made her unpredictable. Her master at the time, V'yr Vorsa, found her abrasive, impatient, and at times vile, but also woeful, melancholic, and broken. The Neti felt great empathy for the woman and agreed to train her just like she did her brother, intent on moulding her into something Morgan would be proud of. A poor student at first, Morgan showed only frustration and enmity for months until she realized her power could be used to further her goals and her priorities changed. Once she found her focus, she displayed unerring discipline and understanding, both qualities Vorsa valued and feared greatly.
Still, Morgan's heart was dark and clouded with a need for vengeance, and yet her brother's influence seemed to find purchase as she steadily reconnected with family and shared much-needed familial moments with him. Vorsa saw ever more redeeming qualities under Morgan's thick skin which could, with time, influence her character towards a better path. The feeling of unease never truly left her, but as she trained the human she began trusting her more and more. For her part, Morgan was grateful to Vorsa for helping her cope and after nearly a year of training helping her find herself again. While not fully healed nor fully understanding what it meant to be a Jedi, Morgan adopted some of Vorsa's views on life and the universe. From then on she would weigh many of her decisions against Vorsa's teachings and perhaps find a better path.
Consolidation {34 ABY}
Morgan’s rise to true power began during the Brotherhood’s war against Odan-Urr. She became a willing participant in V’yr Vorsa’s plot to minimize damage to her Clan and distract the Brotherhood with other crises. Vorsa, the Herald at the time, saw the coming storm far too late to save New Tython from destruction, but she did foresee her death at Darth Pravus’ hand. Morgan became her way out when the young woman agreed to replace Vorsa through deception. Their plan bore fruit as Vorsa became a prisoner in Darth Pravus’ prison and Morgan, having betrayed her, became Herald.
Morgan’s time as Herald was not spent idly. She spent the first year subjugating, negotiating and fighting to organize the disparate smuggling and crime rings in Brotherhood space into a single organization known as the Shroud Syndicate. The organization was small at first, but within another year it turned into a true crime syndicate, controlling smuggling routes, pirate flotillas and the production and management of illicit items across Brotherhood space. All the while the war between Odan-Urr and the Brotherhood raged in the background. Politics took over and with the expansion of the Syndicate and the influence of the Brotherhood, a new enemy soon emerged.
Upward rise {35 ABY - 38 ABY}
Morgan’s influence through the Shroud drew the gaze of the newly elected Grand Master, Darth Pessimus. Her intellect and savvy for negotiation — and unburdened murder when necessary — made his decision easier. She was elevated to Deputy Grand Master as the Cantor’s right hand.
Her position came with new dangers, though, and the new enemy seemed to grow nearer as rumors spread of an anti-Force user coalition rising against the Brotherhood. Twelfth Great Jedi War was a turning point in the civil war and it galvanized and focused the Brotherhood, and Odan-Urr, towards a common enemy. A bloody battle in the Arx system turned into a war that spanned several other systems, including the Collective home system of Nancora.
The Brotherhood was bruised and beaten, but not defeated. Their counterattack fell upon Meridian where several prominent members of the Collective were dealt with and a tentative peace was brokered between Morgan and Alethia Archenksova due to Clan Odan-Urr participating fiercely in the conflict.
Blood Sport {39 ABY - Present}
Downfall {39 ABY}
After Meridian, her job done and her enemies crowding, Morgan turned her attention away from the Brotherhood and onto her own life. She spent nearly a year with her children, keeping them away from those she thought were on their heels — crime lords, Collective, and Sith alike. Eventually, every sin catches up to the sinner and so it was with Morgan and her family. In late 39 ABY, as her ship the Fifth Day, was leaving the high spires on Coruscant the ship's engines and grav-lifts gave out as explosives planted at the shuttle’s core detonated. The Fifth Day plummeted toward the megalopolis, crushing spires and air traffic along with it. It would detonate in a bright nova visible for miles. To those who plotted her demise, Morgan Sorenn was dead, once and for all failing to evade her well-deserved fate.
The Ring {40 ABY - 41 ABY}
The Godless Matron always had a bloody appeal to the psychos of the galaxy, its many hovels and nooks are a perfect environment for gangs, cults, clubs, and other unsavory groups to take hold. One such exclusive club was named the Blood Ring. Small in comparison to most, it still drew many a bloodthirsty patron to its deadly rings. Death was common and gladiators were unceremoniously spaced after every defeat. Truly a place where the depraved spent their hard stolen credits.
In, 40 ABY, around seven months after Morgan’s supposed demise, she entered one of these rings with the Clawdite mercenary who planted the charges on her ship. He was known as a local butcher for several criminal organizations within the Syndicate, and beyond. A hush fell over the crowd as Morgan broke his neck, crushed his spine, and imploded his internal organs. The bloody mess drew far less attention than Morgan’s presence. She wanted information, and the Ring was where she would find it, drawing the attention of every one of the conspirators, eventually. In the meantime, she would sharpen her wits and strengthen herself and her image again. She became a scourge on the Matron once more, though this time she did it from the bottom up.
Relationships
Turel Sorenn
Turel Sorenn is Morgan’s brother, her best friend, and her partner in mischief since they were little. He is family and she loves him immensely. However, they have found each other on opposite sides of the conflict between light and dark many times. Despite their close bond, they have found each other as adversaries, and most likely will again.
Morgan could never harm or kill her brother, and she’d probably hunt down anyone else who tried, but her life's path has taken her far from Turel's own. Despite their polar positions, she will always respect him. He is her white knight, but also her biggest burden since he will never stop trying to find a way to bring her to the light.
Emere Galo
Emere Galo dropped into Morgan's life in 37 ABY. Initially, a simple mercenary Morgan hired here and there for an odd job, their relationship soon developed further as trust between the two grew. An accomplished tattoo artist, Emere personally made some of Morgan's tattoos, and during those sessions they became increasingly familiar with each other, sharing stories and, eventually, sheets.
Emere's complicated relationship with her own family and Morgan's duties to her children prevented any deeper relationship for a while. Morgan's fondness for Emere's young daughter, Morra, and her willingness to put herself in harm's way for the girl helped them develop a deeper bond since Emere's whole world revolved around the young girl she once abandoned. The relationship wouldn’t last, however, as Morgan’s toxic traits surfaced eventually bringing a wedge between the two.
Satsi Tameike
Satsi Tameike is probably the only person in the galaxy that can make Morgan blush. They are kindred spirits, often finding understanding of, or acceptance in each other for the traumas they had suffered and deeds they had done in the past. Morgan became attracted to and attached to Satsi at one point in their relationship, and it is speculated that the two have had more than one affair. Despite rumors, however, they remained good friends and devoted allies.
Privately, Satsi and Morgan consider each other family, their bond one which no one label can encapsulate. They are more than friends, lovers, sisters, or allies. One would jump through fire for the other and vice versa, answering any call in a time of need. Even in moments of betrayal or enmity, the crux of their relationship remains: for two women made incapable of trust by the similar atrocities they have experienced, Morgan and Satsi trust and understand each other, especially at their worst.
V’yr Vorsa
V'yr Vorsa is Morgan’s former Master. The Neti trained her in the ways of the Force and is, in many ways, her mother figure. They had spent a year together training, talking, and meditating, before Morgan ascended to the Dark Council. Even though Morgan never truly understood the Jedi way, Vorsa made sure the young woman was trained well. Despite their different outlooks on the world, Vorsa's influence still lingers on Morgan.
Few people know exactly what happened between them when Vorsa was Herald, but what is known is that Morgan betrayed her to Lord Pravus thus taking her spot on the Council. Since then the two have had minimal or no contact, mostly keeping to themselves, but with no ill will towards each other since the Dark Brotherhood's shift against the Collective.
C'ree
C'ree is a peculiar oddity in Morgan's life. She was once on Morgan's crew when she captained the Crimson Queen and considered the crew part of her family. Despite C'ree's apparent mental deficiencies, Morgan befriended the woman and at one point considered her a close friend. Since the betrayal and Morgan's apparent death by the Queen's crew, the two hadn't had any contact until the day Morgan captured C'ree to find the whereabouts of her treacherous former crew. To Morgan's surprise and contrary to her belief, C'ree had been on her side all along, even fighting for her at the time. In a way, what came next bonded the two even closer than before. Taking revenge on the crew of the Queen solidified their relationship and, soon, they became true partners in crime, with Morgan as captain and C'ree as her enforcer and right hand. For all their business-like behavior in public, Morgan and C'ree understand each other very well in private. They are as close to true friends as they can be, with C'ree even considering Morgan a sort of family.
Alethia Archenksova
Alethia Archenksova initially showed open contempt and hostility towards Morgan during the Lotus War, viewing her as little more than a conniving opportunist. Morgan's betrayal of V'yr Vorsa and Odan-Urr salted the ground beneath the two women so much that it took years for them to reconcile. Morgan's willingness to harbor a SENNET spy in her close circle gave Alethia pause for a time, but the hostility barely faded until Morgan, then a Deputy Grand Master initiated talks with Odan-Urr and extended a hand of truce during the Collective attacks.
The eventual peace after Meridian reconciled them enough for a strange friendship to develop, one based on insults and a tentative trust. By nature, the two women are opposites, one a spy bound by discipline and loyalty, the other a pirate as chaotic as a black hole, yet still, their hostility soon turned to begrudging respect and a measure of friendly tolerance.
Keelan Vars (Deceased)
Keelan Vars was a Sentinel Network agent working undercover as an enforcer and security chief of the ’’Godless Matron’’. His relationship with Morgan was initially limited to professional work on the ‘’Matron’’. Rumors say that Morgan was aware of his allegiance during her time in office as Herald, and that she allowed his presence on the Matron despite the violation at a time when the Brotherhood was at war with Clan Odan-Urr.
Privately, their relationship eventually evolved into a short-lived romance. Keelan was killed in 36 ABY by Black Sun thugs raiding the Matron. Eventually, they were stopped, but Keelan gave his life to protect the then-pregnant Morgan and their unborn child. His last words to Morgan were "Protect her" revealing his latent Force Sensitivity and powers of foresight as Morgan had not yet told him of the pregnancy. Morgan still considers Keelan a good man and someone she could have had a decent life with were it not for the hell they had found themselves in.
Celevon Edraven
Celevon Edraven’s relationship with Morgan is a mystery. Although some people know there was once something between them, what that was has remained completely unknown to the public. In reality, Celevon is a dear friend and confidant of Morgan’s. They are allies and friends and, some say, even former lovers who share a child. These are all just hear-say, however, as the rumors have never actually been confirmed by anyone.
In private Morgan and Celevon share a bond few people share. Morgan had helped Celevon in dire need, leveraging all her knowledge of the Force and psychology to restore some of Celevon's dormant memories. Since then the Mandalorian has confided in Morgan more than once. They enjoy drinking together.
