The Arcona Navy Corps, established in 34ABY, is one of the four military branches of the arconan military repertoire. As the naval branch of the arconan military, the Corps specifies in manning and commanding warships, cruisers and freighters in the Arconan Order of Battle.
Role
The basic role of the Arcona Navy Corps is to provide protection to the Dajorra System and the Arcona Dominion, which also requires cooperation with the Dajorra Defence Force. Specifically the Navy Corps, a contrario to the role of the DDF, is able to travel out of the Dajorra System and launch large-scale orbital attacks upon threats to Arcona. Adhering to the arconan norm, the ranking, structure and overall framework of the Corps is constructed by the Shadesworn members of Arcona who comprise the Officer ranks of the establishment. Not only are the ranking systems of the Corps dictated by the Shadesworn Ranking level held by any particular individual; the Navy is perhaps the most significant tool utilised by the Shadesworn of Arcona, comprising a large portion of the Arconan military contingent.
Fundamentally, this branch is focused on the military dominance and tactical strategy of large-scale orbital and space combat by warships in Dark Brotherhood territories. Contrary to popular belief, however, the Navy does not strictly adhere to conflict-oriented means of training and piloting; specialisation is also undertaken within freight branches and areas of logistics, enabling Arconan forces to transport goods through the Dajorra System without the necessity of independent freighting companies.
Being a fundamental cornerstone to the Arconan Military dominion, the Navy Corps are charged with performing heavy troop transportation
tasks, Orbital bombardment of specific offensive locations, orbital siege, logistics and systemic, large-scale battles.
Training
Standard Naval Training (SNT)
The first phase of naval training consist of Standard Naval Training. Much like the Standard Soldier Training of the Army Corps, the SNT is a 10-week basic course course, focused on physical fitness, mental awareness and the fundamental techniques and mindset required for naval operation. Basic training includes:
- Physical fitness tests (Involving the necessary limits one is required to be within to operate on a naval vessel)
- Weapons training (Including personal weapons training, as well as naval gunning)
- Tactical awareness
- Navigation
- Naval history
- Naval strategy
- Leadership
- Naval etiquette (Including Uniform procedures, how to address officers, etc.)
- Naval Languages (Phonetic languages, Navigational languages etc.)
SNT is currently taught by officers of the navy at designated training bases, most notably those upon the Eye of the Abyss II and within the Spaceport upon Estle City.
Captain Krox Noctem personally oversees the training of most recruits, acting as a trainer himself when applicable. A series of lower officers within the rankings of the Naval Corps tend to the recruits, but the Captain takes a keen interest in the new recruits, looking for members to serve besides him upon graduation on the Eye of the Abyss II.
Graduation
Upon graduation, a newly inducted naval officer or deckhand will be assigned to one of the many ships within the Arcona Order of Battle. These include, but are not necessarily limited to:
Upon stationing upon one of the above vessels, the officer will begin a probation period, wherein they will be required to shadow a more experienced Lieutenant or above. It will be their duty to study under this 'mentor' in order to develop their skill set and become a full naval officer.
Deckhands will follow another deckhand around in the same 'mentor' system; however, the system is somewhat more lax than that of the officer's.
Naval Categories
These particular naval categories denote the particular branch of the Arconan Navy a graduate of the training will choose to enter. Each have their own unique requirements and skill sets that require refining that link into the previous graduation process, but do not necessarily fully encompass the differences between the fleets.
Heavy Battle Fleet
The heavy battle fleet is comprised of warships used within the Dajorra Defence Force and by the Arcona Naval Corps acting as the main body of Arcona's naval attack force. The duties of an officer within the Heavy Battle Fleet would be command, navigation and strategy.
Officers progressing into the Heavy Battle Fleet are inducted by the standard channels before being assigned to a role upon the ship. As a rule, training exercises occur bi-monthly, enabling all members of the fleet force a strong understanding of procedure and strategy.
The Heavy Battle fleet is responsible for orbital bombardment, orbital siege and space warfare, with the standard protocol being that capital ships would fight other capital ships, cruisers would fight other cruisers, squadrons would fight other squadrons etc. In order for the heavy battle fleet to remain functional within space warfare, they require a strong armament, consisting of not only proton torpedo launchers and Ion cannons used in heavy ship-to-ship combat, but also fighter squadrons from the Arcona Starfighter Corps.
Ships within the heavy battle fleet often remain at their garrison or on patrol, as their size and slow speeds inhibit their ability to move into position without prior warning.
Light Battle Fleet
The light battle fleet consists of cruisers and frigates within the Arconan Order of Battle that are used in tandem with the Dajorra Defence Force which act as the middle-class of naval power within the Arconan dominion. The role of an officer within the light battle fleet is strategy, navigation, command, faster-than-light travel and reconnaissance.
The light battle fleet is responsible for reconnaissance and space warfare roles. Frigates with a light armament are generally sent to scout an assigned area, before falling back to the fleet with information. Officers of the Light Battle Fleet are required to be fluent in reconnaissance coding, and have to be willing to take risks on a daily basis with only a small complement of fighter squadrons provided by the Arcona Starfighter Corps and only a few cannons for protection in perhaps the most hostile of situations. They are also required to make on the spot decisions, which could potentially send the whole fleet, and all of its crew into battle.
Only the most hardy of individuals are seen to go into the light battle fleet because of the danger that it entails. Although not based on heavy ship-to-ship warfare, the light battle fleet is well-versed in the order of battle and in times of space warfare, the light battle fleet does partake in standard naval procedure; however, a contrario to the heavy battle fleet, the light battle fleet is also required to serve as a scouting body, as an intelligence gathering annex and as a small reconnaissance unit.
Ships within the light battle fleet are often stationed at their regular garrison; however, in comparison to the heavy battle fleet, it is not uncommon to find ships outside of their radius due to their inherent duties. Their light armament, small sizes and swift speeds make the ships of the light battle fleet very versatile and well-travelled.
Logistics
The logistic branch of the Arcona Naval Corps details the transport of cargo, troops, heavy artillery, vehicles and fighters. This is a role taken on by mainly deckhands, yet it is a significant part of the naval process.
Based upon most of the heavy battle fleet ships and on some of the light battle fleet vessels, the logistical efforts of the Navy is not to be underestimated. It enables the Navy and the rest of the Arconan military to swiftly and efficiently transport goods from one place to another, whether it is during times of war or whether it is basic transport, it is a significant part of the naval effort.
Ranks
The ranks within the Arcona Navy Corps adhere to the same system as within the rest of the Arcona military. That is, in conjunction with the Shadesworn ranking system implemented within Arcona.
