Awards are given for winning in competitive activities as well as participating in works of merit within the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Some awards are medals, while others are ceremonial weapons and devices. The categories of medals include competitions, merit, and sacramental awards for service to one's House, Clan, or the entire Brotherhood as a whole. Some awards are given based on knowledge, leadership, skill, participation, gaming victories, or mentorship; each award varies with the accomplished task.

Often awards are granted either at certain occasions and not regularly given out. For example, during Great Jedi Wars, novae are given out but are not granted during any other time. The Silver Sash is only given out once a year, while Seals of Loyalty are granted to those who show exemplary devotion to the Brotherhood twice a year in celebrations of occasions such as the Exodus or the Day of the Fox. The Golden Lightsaber - the most prestigious award in the Brotherhood - has recently only been considered for those who have served as a Grand Master to the DJB.

-Awards can be requested by Brotherhood leaders, from a [[BTL|battle team leader]] to the Grand Master himself; however, the levels of awards that one can grant varies with each leadership position. Each award request is reviewed and processed by the [[Master at Arms]]; if the MAA is unable or unavailable to approve the request, the [[Praetor]] or the [[Magistrate]] can do it in his or her stead. Some awards, however, cannot just be approved by the MAA but most also be approved by members of the [[Dark Council]], whether by majority or not - most of the time prestigious awards require a higher process of approval, such as the [[Diamond Sword]], the Silver Sash, and the Golden Lightsaber.
