Dralin Fortea is a well-traveled member of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, and has recently returned to Tarentum. The Coruscanti man holds the view that a stronger, unified Brotherhood is essential for their survival, and has little patience for those who tout their own unit as being the most important. He was trained in the Force by Telona Murrage, and is skilled in the use of poisons and sniper rifles due to his childhood training by his mother, Lilar Nemat-Fortea.

Twilighter

"The Uscru District was everything I needed. It was my playground, my true home, where my own, personal dark side could thrive."
―Dralin Fortea

Double Life

Dralin spent a great deal of time in the Uscru Entertainment District.

Dralin's parents, Kaiman Fortea and Lilar Nemat-Fortea, were well known among the Coruscanti elite. Kaiman was a corrupt lawyer, earning enormous sums of credits defending wealthy crime lords in court. Dralin's mother was often neglected by her work-obsessed husband, but enjoyed the socialite lifestyle his credits bought her. Five years into their marriage, Lilar gave birth to Dralin, whom they would leave in the custody of various caretakers throughout his childhood, Kaiman being too busy to look after his son, and Lilar not wanting to sacrifice her personal time. Once he turned seven-years old, his parents decided that he was old enough to not require a caretaker, saving them money and leaving him alone for hours at a time. It was this upbringing of neglect that led Dralin to wander the ecumenopolis of Coruscant, and eventually his time was evenly spent in his home Sah'c District and the lower areas of the Uscru District.

The Uscru District, located on the other side of the Senate District from his home, was alive in a way that Dralin had never experienced before; with one of the highest crime rates on Coruscant, Uscru District felt more real than anything the affluent veneer of Sah'c District could offer. By age eight, Dralin began running with the inevitable groups of street urchins that turn up in seedy parts of civilization, running errands for a local assassin, Harika Krecca. Even by this age, Dralin recognized the need to blend in, and stole clothing from other children, hiding them in his room at home, and donning them before making his forays into the dimly-lit undercity. If his parents ever suspected that Dralin was sneaking out of the house, they never showed any interest.

Birth of a Murderer

File:Outlander Club.jpg
The Outlander Club was Dralin's second home.

By the time he was thirteen, Dralin was known around the north end of the Uscru District as a con artist, as well as an occasional lifter and pickpocket. He worked well with Harika Krecca, a regular patron of the Outlander Club, often giving her all of the proceeds of his deeds, keeping none for himself, as well as serving as her eyes and ears. Dralin wasn't interested in the money, but rather the feeling of recognition from Krecca, as well as the rush of taking credits from those he considered "inferior beings."

By age fifteen, Dralin eventually grew bored with simply taking credits from people, and he decided that he wanted to try something he had yet to do: kill another living being. Dralin had toyed with the idea in the past, and had spoken with his assassin mentor about it. He liked the idea of taking the life of another being, as so far he had only taken material possessions.

It was during a routine Robbed Traveler scam that Dralin made a sudden change of plans. Instead of asking for credits to get home with the promise of repayment, Dralin convinced the Eriaduan tourist he picked up at the Outlander Club to give him a lift home in his rented speeder, promising repayment from worried parents. Upon arrival, Dralin invited the tourist into his parents' home, his parents being gone on vacation at the time. After surreptitiously taking a knife from the kitchen under the pretense of getting the "good citizen" a drink, Dralin plunged the blade into the tourist's chest, blood spotting the white carpeting. While attempting to clean up the mess, Dralin was surprised when his mother walked into the room.

Mask of Sanity

Dralin's mother led a double life, under the alter ego Harika Krecca.

Without saying a word, Lilar helped Dralin clean up the bloodstains, and helped him bag the fresh corpse, carrying it to the speeder outside, and piloting down into the undercity to dump it. After disposing of the speeder, Lilar led Dralin back to their home, and pressing a button on her comlink, exposing a hidden room lined with rifles, grenades, vibroblades, electroshock nets, and finally, Harika Krecca's suit of armor. Dralin's mother had, in fact, been with him during his excursions into the Uscru District, giving him purpose and advice.

Lilar explained to Dralin that she had taken up bounty hunting and assassination before she met Kaiman, and continued it throughout their marriage, disguising the spending and receiving of credits as frivolous purchases and money from her inheritance. Like Dralin, she merely enjoyed the thrill of capturing or killing others, not needing the money, rubbing shoulders with wanted criminals and corrupt officials as a way of breaking free of the meaningless life of dabbling that most of the wealthy aspire to. Understanding the similar drive that his mother possessed, Dralin became the official sidekick to "Harika Krecca," working with her on the same contracts and learning the ways of an assassin.

Birth of a Dark Jedi

Over the next year of working beside his mother on assassination contracts, Dralin occasionally displayed preternatural skill, often seeming to dodge blaster fire or leap across chasms no normal boy his age possibly could. He even once claimed to have moved rubble off of his mentor after a particularly old corridor in the Undercity gave way during a shootout. Lilar could see that her son was not normal, but she could also see that she couldn't give him over to the burgeoning Jedi Order under Luke Skywalker. Instead, she contacted someone she knew from the distant Yridia system, out in the Minos Cluster, and arranged to have Dralin sent there.

Their parting was a sad one, for Dralin had only come to connect with his mother in the past year, yet he understood the wisdom of being sent from the capitol planet, free from the watchful eye of the Jedi-supporting government and able to be trained by those who were similar to him. Lilar refused to say who she was sending him to, for fear of betraying her occasional well-paying contact out in Yridian space, but she told her son to hold onto all he had already learned, and prove to whomever he was being sent to that her son was worthy of their training.

Death Dealer

"In the old days, the Necromancers were the elite of Tarentum. We didn't learn how to take life, we learned how to manipulate death. They weren't mutually exclusive concepts to us; Telona showed me that."
―Dralin Fortea

Characteristics

"I am whomever I need to be, nothing more."
―Dralin Fortea

Dralin Fortea, Scion of Telona Murrage

Appearance

Dralin has average features, with dark eyes and dark red hair. Being neither ugly nor remarkably good-looking, Dralin can blend into crowd rather easily, and his close-cut hair can be readily dyed or covered with a wig. His skin is naturally pale, but many cosmetics can darken his skin as needed, given his roles as an infiltrator and an assassin. Following a blaster shot that took his eyes, Dralin had them replaced with cybernetics, which help him see better in the dark. Unfortunately, they also glow a faint green.

Combat

Dralin stays calm and collected during combat, planning and anticipating to the best of his ability. He tends to remain stoic and focused, to the point of single-mindedness. He rarely considers the ramifications of his current actions, usually planning them out ahead of time and letting his training take over when it is time for action.

Dralin prefers to finish combat as soon as possible, using every tool in his arsenal to do so. He doesn't waste time with conversation, instead devoting himself to watching his enemy and reacting. Dralin uses the Force to enhance his capabilities, such as lending accuracy to a blaster shot, improving the impact behind a hand-to-hand strike, or turning invisible while lining up a sniper shot from a distance.

The Force

Dralin's Force-training is as motley as his mundane training. He uses the Force as an auxiliary to his normal capabilities, rather than a means in itself, always seeking to enhance what he has rather than grow reliant upon them in exclusion to everything else. In Dralin's eyes, the Force doesn't truly replace skill or talent, but should be used in the same way a skilled person uses higher quality tools than others.

Personality

"Dralin is one of the most selfless, quiet, and hard working members of the Clan. Never in the spotlight, never seeking reward, but always there when you need him."
Scion Altera, discussing some of Dralin's finer points.

Sullustan gin, mixed with a Hapan vermouth.

Ever since he had begun taking the role of a leader among Tarenti, Dralin has become more eloquent than the taciturn young man he once was. Thanks to his cosmopolitan upbringing, he speaks many languages, including Bocce, Bothese, Galactic Basic, Hapan, Olys Corellisi, Ryl, Sith, and a smattering of Mando'a. When speaking Galactic Basic, Dralin has a distinct Coruscanti accent.

He mistrusts all but a few; people he could count as "friends" number less than four. Dralin has rarely, if ever, been seen to "let his hair down." On the few occasions that he does, usually at the goading of Ronovi, he has been known to enjoy Sullustan gin. Those that Dralin does consider a friend find that he can be surprisingly warm and friendly, given his usual dour, businesslike manner. Ronovi, being Dralin's first true friend, has taught him much in the way of empathy, but to most, Dralin remains as cynical and closed-off as always.

Ever since Yridia has reformed into the dictatorial Yridian Kratocracy and Dralin was put in command of YSC INTEL, Dralin has begun to seem more paranoid, seeking signs of treason in Yridians and Tarenti alike. Taking his duties as the head of the Yridian secret police seriously, Dralin has developed a patriotic fervor for Tarentum and Yridia that few had expected of the standoffish assassin he had once been.
