Nemea is a moon orbiting Iblis under the dominion of Scholae Palatinae, residing in the Cocytus System.
History
The moon of Nemea has always had it rough. During the formation of the Cocytus System, Nemea had had its own orbit around Imperius, the system's star. However, during the formation of the planet of Iblis, the moon's orbit was altered by the sudden gravity well. Over the millennia, the wobble in Nemea's orbit created by Iblis caused the planetoid to swing further and further away from the star.
A piece of astronomical luck gave Nemea a chance, as it's orbit degraded towards the orbits of the gas giants. Iblis, the reason for Nemea's rapid 'retreat', crossed her path. The massive gravity well of the gas giant captured the moon, with the swing caused by the gravity almost causing the planets to collide.
The orbit Nemea began around Iblis was incredibly close. The gravitational ebb and flow from the massive gas giant began tearing huge rifts in the moon. The core of Nemea boiled over, causing thousands of volcanoes to sprout up almost overnight. As the final orbit began to establish itself, the gravitational onslaught subsided, but the volcanic activity remained.
Despite being likened to Mustafar, Nemea has never been colonized, or even attempted to be.
Physical Geography
Planetary
While the majority of Nemea is blackened cooled lava, Nemea was once a brown, terrestrial planet. The majority of its surface was fractured and sundered during its violent insertion into Iblis' orbits, leaving huge rifts in the surface, through which lava and magma can flow.
There are three main rifts, each running from pole to pole, dividing the moon into three pieces. Near constant rivers of magma surge out from these rifts, slowly creating new land as it cools and collects.
Thousands of volcanoes litter the landscape, the majority of which are constantly active. It is considered to be one of the most seismically active planetoids in the galaxy, often violently so.
There are several 'calm' spots, where thick layers of basalt and other hard rocks have formed islands in the lava flows. These islands could maintain a small outpost, but the commercial and strategic viability is lacking.
Notable Landmarks
Mount Occasus
Named for the fiery former Consul Thran Occasus, Mount Occasus is the largest volcano on the moon, rising over five kilometers into the atmosphere. The volcano's slopes are constantly cut with rivers of lava from the perpetual eruptions. These eruptions are often so violent that powerful lightning storms are created by the ash particles rising into the upper atmosphere.
Outlook
Political
There are no inhabitants, and therefore there is no political outlook.
Military
There are no inhabitants and no military presence, and therefore there is no military outlook.
Commerce
There are no inhabitants and no real resources on the moon, and therefore there is no commercial outlook.
