History

Early life

Childhood: The Twins 18 ABY

In 18 ABY, two girls were born to Katsuo Sakurazaki and his wife, Haruna. The oldest daughter was named Setsuna and the youngest Konoka. The young parents were overjoyed that their children were healthy. Living in the outskirts of Dong-Hai on Kyataru meant that supplies were only slightly harder to get ahold of and neither Katsuo nor his wife had come from a family of money.

The only irregularity that marked the beginnings of these two lives were the deformities to their ears, making them elongated and pointed. Katsuo and his wife paid this no mind at all, taking their children and caring deeply for them.

The two girls would be well cared for and happy for years to come.

Childhood: The Early Years 18 ABY - 24 ABY

During the early years of life, Setsuna’s world consisted of the two caregiver giants she knew as her parents and her twin sister, the other half of her personality. Setsuna was always a happy child, but rarely smiled. For years, life consisted of simply being taken care of while playing with her sister. The bond between Setsuna and her sister continued to deepen.

After a few years, Katsuo began taking Setsuna out into a nearby field and taught her to fight with small-bladed weapons. Having her use two short pieces of wood, Katsuo led his eldest daughter through the movements of several forms. Setsuna grew extremely proficient in the forms based on Katsuo’s teachings and before long was even able to outpace the man, which earned her much praise from her father.

Childhood: Enclosed Happiness 24 ABY - 29 ABY

For years, the small Sakurazaki family dwelt in something resembling peace. The occasional spat with a neighbor would occur or a small bandit group would threaten the nearby village. These incidental things were usually brushed aside as minor inconveniences.

The years dragged on and Setsuna became more than proficient with her weapons. Mastering form after form, the girl’s curiosity seemed inexhaustible. Her curiosity finally led her to the inevitable conclusion of her family. She began her training as an assassin like both of her parents had done. The younger twin had a temperament that ill-suited the mindset of an assassin and was then assigned to attend her older sister in the capacity of a servant.

Neither sister complained of the situation. They embraced it with full enthusiasm as it meant they would never be very far from each other unless Setsuna was receiving instruction from her masters. As the years progressed, Setsuna began to master the forms and skills needed for her assignments in the future.

Dark Brotherhood History

Childhood: Raw Power and The End of Innocence 29 ABY

Shortly after the girls had turned eleven, members of the Suukou Bodai came to call late one night. These marauders knew of the girls and their sensitivity to the Force; misplaced fear and loathing of those who would profit from the Keibatsu rule led the men that night to kill an unsuspecting Katsuo and Haruna.

Having heard noises down the hall in their otherwise quiet home, Setsuna and her sister rose from their beds to see what the problem was. As the girls moved through the house on silent footsteps, Setsuna lifted a pair of daggers from one of the tables in the hallway that stored the family’s heirlooms.

Armed with her ancestor’s weapons and her sister’s courage, Setsuna continued through the house looking for the ones responsible. Upon finding their parents’ bodies, Setsuna froze while Konoka screamed. Within moments, the marauders had found the girls and laughed as they saw one of them holding two ancient daggers. The bandits raped both girls and left them for dead, but chance would have it another way for the older sister. Konoka died that night, but Setsuna was located by a passing doctor who saw the flames of the surrounding fields. He took collected the still living girl and brought her to the Facility.

Childhood: The Facility 29 ABY - 31ABY

To be added.

Childhood: Quick Study 31 ABY

The scout from Kuroshin Castle arrived shortly after Setsuna’s burst of violence. Finding the girls naked and covered in blood, both their own and that of the bandits, the young man introduced himself as Kanamishi. The two girls backed away from the new male in the house, clearly frightened, worried that this man was part of the earlier group.

Kanamishi informed Lyspair that he had someone en route to be trained. He told Setsuna that her sister would be forced to stay on Kyataru until she is finished training, thus allowing ‘servants’ to join her later.

Arriving at Lyspair filled the young Setsuna with unease which in turn fueled her temper even more. By the end of the first week, few wanted anything to do with the abrasive, violent young Krath. The young assassin was trained to observe, listen and react accordingly to her situation. She knew that the only way she would be reunited with her sister would be to complete her training here. She continually told herself that it was no different from being in classes at home with her sister waiting within her quarters for her return.

Adolescence: Reunion 31 ABY

After a short year, the young girl was allowed to have her sister brought to her and has since kept a close watch on the child-like Konoka. Shortly after the girls were reunited, they resumed their roles with each other. Konoka took care of the living areas and bedrooms while Setsuna did what was needed by the head of the family.

Konoka continued to exhibit a child-like mentality with little hope of ever regaining what was lost to her. Bound by family and duty to care for her younger sister, Setsuna faced each day with the knowledge that her sister will never be more than a servant.

The assassin watched over her sister and read to her at night, keeping her calm and safe. The days moved forward and Setsuna knew that she couldn’t remain within the confines of the school permanently.

Adolescence: Learning Curve 31 ABY - 33 ABY

The agility of Setsuna’s mind, coupled with her intelligence gave her ample footing to vault herself through the ranks with ease. The girl learned quickly from each teacher she was assigned the same as she had on Kyataru learning from the masters within her extended family. With these things in mind, she rose swiftly and became further able to protect her sister.

Upon reaching Dark Jedi Knight, Setsuna designed her first lightsaber and was given the robes fitting of her station. Unsatisfied with her rank, she continued to complete task after task before her and was rewarded for it.

With wars and vendettas behind her, the young adolescent was promoted to Prelate of the Obelisk order shortly before she vanished along with her sister. Months later, reports were filed by the Kuroshin recruiters that one of the Dark Jedi had landed near the fringes of the Outlands.

Adolescence: Return of the Family Head 33 ABY - 35 ABY

Setsuna returned to her family’s lands after her elevation to Prelate to find that her family as not killed off entirely. Several of their distant relatives had survived, but only herself and Konoka remained of the pure Sakurazaki line. As a trained assassin and as a Dark Jedi, she was asked to become the head of her family.

Conferring with her sister for several days, the young assassin returned to her family and accepted the request made of her. Taking the mantle and responsibilities afforded her many amenities she had grown accustomed to having to do without. She no longer tended her own laundry and there were enough servants that Konoka was no longer needed on a full-time basis.

This struck a blow to both of the twins, forcing Setsuna to dismiss the matron of the household. In the matron’s place, Konoka was given what little honor could be afforded to her. The younger twin took her duties seriously and seemed unhindered by her child-like state.

After several years of reinstating her family’s methods of training, Setsuna appointed masters to teach the children and adults to take them on missions. The system appears to function thus far.

Adulthood: Rise of the Kurai 36 ABY

Setsuna grew rapidly within her mind after months of grueling exercises with the intent of uncovering her forgotten past. The strain of rediscovery led her to rename herself completely, shucking herself from the animalistic trappings of her former life. Adopting the monicker of Izanami Kurai, she set forward to create a group of individuals who were capable of protecting dig sites where artifacts could be located. Her first course of action was to bring Maelous Ascarend into the group as the head of security.

Psychological Profile

Setsuna Sakurazaki

Motivation To protect her family, more importantly her only remaining blood relative.
Personality Violent, Angry, Honest, Protective, Adaptable, Dispassionate
Nature Over-trained, Killer, Guileful
Hatreds Disrespect, Weakness.

Setsuna seems to carry one single motivation; the protection of her family and the secrecy of their arts. Her key figure of this protective nature is her twin sister, Konoka. Her methods for dealing with threats is extreme at best, leaving little in the way of identification for the deceased.

This drive borders on being an obsessive behavior, leading her to several other less than savory hobbies. For instance, the young Assassin collects trophies from each of her kills and even trophies from those she had nothing to do with. Her collection continues to grow the more she subjects herself to the bizarre lifestyle that she has adopted.

As an Assassin and a warrior, Setsuna has no trouble spilling blood, no trouble killing. However, when her sister is threatened the young, aloof woman becomes a natural disaster looking for a place to happen. Outwardly, the young girl seems overly respectful to the point of mocking and tends to go out of her way to make sure people do not try to disturb her again.

Konoka Sakurazaki

Motivation To serve her sister.
Personality Innocent, Disturbed, Shutdown, Regressive
Nature Calm, Collected, Child-like
Hatreds Disrespect to her sister

Konoka seems to have no driving force behind her whatsoever. Untrained in the arts of combat be reason of demeanor, she was assigned as her sister's personal servant, waiting on the older, more adaptable sibling. She does not think of this as a punishment, more like the chance to ensure that her sister is well cared for. The child-like nature of the younger twin is akin to that of those suffering from repressed memories which have stunted their ability to mature.

Konoka spends nearly every waking moment in the quarters she shares with her sister, ensuring that everything is in order for when Setsuna returns home for the evening.
