"Too wise for a Sith, Too smart for an Obelisk, Too arrogant for a Krath."
―Chi-Long, speaking of Thran Occasus

" Some things just don't change...Thran is one of 'em"
― Anonymous

Thran Occasus is a member of Clan Scholae Palatinae and a firey member of the Sith Order. Currently holding the position of Quaestor in House Dorimad Sol, his passion for leadership is surpassed only by his passion for drinking and women. Vain by nature, he is “plagued” by good looks. Above his natural beauty, his connection to the Force is extraordinarily strong.

Character History

The House that Kast Built | Before the Brotherhood

" If Callus had only known his son…They could have conquered the Galaxy…"
― Aylanna Sokane, speaking of the Demise of the House of Kast

Atom Heart Mother(s)

Born as Derc Kast in 1 ABY Thran Occasus lead the life of wealth throughout most of his youth. Unlike most settlers of the Outer Rim Worlds, Thran was born into astonishing wealth. His father, Callus Fen Kast, was a renowned Imperial scientist. Originally from Corellia and born in 43 BBY, Kast brought his family to Bakura during the construction of the second Death Star. His vast technical knowledge made Kast a welcomed addition to the Imperial legions, where he was hand picked by the Emperor to complete the battle station. The proximity of Bakura to Endor made it possible for Kast to maintain a low profile within the Imperial ranks while maintaining the rich lifestyle he had created for his family. Aptly rewarded for his work on the battle station, Kast’s expanded his increasingly deep wealth. Enveloped by his work, Callus Kast spent almost no time with his children and wife. Callus was killed during the destruction of the Second Death Star in 4 ABY, widowing his wife Aylanna Sokane and two children, Shir’ciri and Derc. During his life, Callus barely acknowledged the existence of his son, which would eventually lead to emotional trauma in the young boy.

The Matriarch of the Kast family, Aylanna Sokane, was a peculiar woman who is suspected to be born of the Dathomiri Witches. Her age is unknown, due in part to her earthshakingly good looks. Unlike her husband, she was not born into wealth, but quickly adapted to the prospect. She was inhumanly cold and the Dark Side seemed to surround her. Though she was bitter, people seemed to bend around her will. She kept a loyal cohort of anywhere between ten and twenty young and attractive women at her side at all times. Known as the “Handmaidens”, the young women tended to her every need, including raising her firstborn son. Generally regarded as a misandrous person, she disliked men and clearly favored her female companions and daughters to her sons. Her charisma attracted many men from all walks of life, in spite of her apparent hatred of them. Shortly after the death of her husband, suitors were a common sight at the Kast family Estate. After many years of investigation, Thran determined that his mother may have had some connection to the Sith and most certainly sparked his interest in the occult.

Shir’ciri, known to her family as “Gem”, was the favorite child in the Kast family. As the first born girl, Aylanna took special interest in her. Her every need was catered to and she quickly developed into a mirror of her mother. She remained close to her mother until Thran accumulated a wealth which dwarfed the Family’s coffers, when this happened she quickly turned coat and claimed that she had always supported her baby brother.

Of the Handmaidens that Aylanna kept, Aphelia is her favorite. A ravishingly beautiful girl, Aphelia was charged with the nurture and care of the young Kast son. She maintained the general disdain that Aylanna held in regards to the boy and was not afraid of being hard on him. Aylanna considered herself a surrogate mother to the boy, but quickly threw that thought out as he grew more and more handsome with age. By the time he was 16, Aphelia had requested that she be allowed to marry the boy when he was of the proper age. This threat surely contributed to his departure from Bakura.

The second critical handmaiden was Sarisa Onikengo. Born in 12 BBY, Sarisa filled the gaps in the raising of the Kast son. Where all the other women of the house were unnecessarily brutal to him, Sarisa felt pity for the boy and thus was very gentle with him. She would often find the young man crying in fits of anger and sadness. Onikengo felt it was her responsibility to implant at least some good within the child, giving him some sense of conscience.

The Trial

"What doesn’t kill him will only make him stronger…"
― Aphelia speaking about the testing of Thran

Left in the care of his equally wealthy and bitterly cold mother, Derc (Thran) developed a great deal of insecurities early in his life. Cruelly detached from her first son, she left the continued impression that he was a pox about the House of Kast. Thran was raised by the servants and maidens of the Kast estate. His guardians, Aphelia and Sarisa tended to his every need. Surrounded by women for the majority of his life, Thran developed an extreme dependence on females, which would manifest itself later in life by his continued sexual engagements with many different women. As a child, the boy was habitually ill. His skinny anemic frame and fragile hemophilic body made it difficult for the boy to do normal activities childhood activities. Instead of playing outdoors with other children, Thran read great deals of literature and enjoyed tending to the gardens around the estate.

Careful With That Axe, Eugene

" The boy is too mild mannered, too fragile, too shaken up to be guilty of this heinous act. Even if he had done it, who cares? "
― Official Police Statement

At age 8, the Kast Family took their young son on a trip to the country. While staying at a mountain lake resort, the young boy disappeared. Reports of similar events had been swirling in the air of the Bakuran Capital and many suspected a serial murderer to be in the area of the resort. In her typical fashion, Aylanna left the boy to find his own way out of the situation, thus making him stronger. Held in a dungeon for weeks without food and water, the young boy eventually wormed free of his chains. In the darkness of night, he escaped. However, Thran did not flee without exacting his revenge.

The small child began to strangle his captor, but was interrupted when he woke. The man threw the boy to the ground expecting to be able to manhandle him. However, the young boy had become an unbridled ball of rage. Still, he was no match for the full grown man. As he pinned the boy to the ground and drew a knife to flay him, a small snake which had been lying in wait on the warm floor of the killer’s hide out crept towards the struggling pair. With a clean and decisive strike, the venomous serpent bit the would-be killer in the throat. Minutes later, the man was swollen and near death. Grabbing the knife from the floor, Thran mutilated the body, desecrating it beyond recognition.

When the authorities arrived, they found the bodies of several children as well as enough evidence to close the case. The young Thran was found shaking and hunched over in a corner, shirtless, with the small serpent resting gently over his shoulders. Confused by ferociousness of the situation and not wanting to believe that the young boy was responsible for the state of the body, authorities determined that the killer had died by natural causes. The boy was returned to his home and did not leave the serpent’s side until the day it died.

Young Lust

" Who is that new boy? He’s hotter than the center of the sun!"
― Schoolgirl upon seeing Thran

As he aged, he grew increasingly detached from those around him as he sought only to impress his mother. However, the Kast son also began to show his innate natural beauty. Pleasing to the eye, Thran appeared much as he does today by age 14. Due in part the lure he had with local girls, Thran was restricted to the grounds of the Kast Estate and was not permitted to leave. Cruel tests of will and trials of wisdom were a staple of his life, meant to test his connection to the Force. Little to his knowledge, Thran was being bred for the Dark Side. The relationship troubles, lack of nurture, and other traumatic experiences left Thran a mute by choice until he was nearly 15 years old. At age 15, a young girl by the name of Jenny’ri had been paired with him in the traditional Rule of the Feather and Bowl. The pair was inseparable during this time and the young man clearly fell in love with the young gal.

Jenny’ri showed no interest in her partner, Thran began to change himself so that she might express interest. One evening, the young man over heard a group of maidens gossiping about some pop star named Thran. From that moment on, the name Derc Kast was dead to him. After a detailed search, the son of Callus Kast renamed himself Thran Occasus. The name had personal meaning for him and also helped to separate himself from his family. Shortly after he renamed himself, Thran began to speak again. It was at this moment when his life changed. Girls threw themselves at him and he was never without an escort. At some point during this period of time, Thran impregnated a local girl, who would later give birth to a daughter.

Money

" Three Hundred Trillion credits and you can’t buy me a drink?"
― Anonymous woman

At age 17, now named Thran Occasus, the young man set out on adventures and pursuit of wealth. After 3 years of various criminal activity, Thran Occasus had set up a legitimate multi trillion credit conglomerate. Little was known about his life at this time other than he had various jobs as a smuggler, drug dealer, and as a pimp all while maintaining the appearance of a successful young man. His wealth grew exponentially and eventually surpassed that of his own family. Though he is the owner of Occ-Var Industries, he is involved on limited levels other than collecting revenue. The corporation was established to feed Thran’s life of lavish indulgence. The original corporation was won in a game of chance at a casino. Lady luck had seemed to follow Thran just like the other women.

Comfortably Numb

" 150 kilos of the finest spice in all the land…Looks like someone is partying tonight…"
― Drug dealer on delivering a parcel to Thran

For four years, Thran lived an unbridled life as a playboy and socialite, earning him many friends and enemies along the way. He was known for womanizing and drug abuse during this part of his life. He partied every night and every day. Some claimed him to be reckless, but in all honesty Thran had nothing better to do. By this stage in his life, Thran had no emotional connections with anyone. Women would stay with him, but be gone in the morning. That was exactly how he liked it; No commitment. At the age of 21, Thran began a secret exploration of the Dark Side after an affair with a woman who claimed to know where the Sith were hiding. This search inevitably led him to the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Thran had developed into a perfect candidate for joining the legions of the Sith. He could disappear and reappear whenever he saw fit, so no one suspected a thing.

Dreams of a Dark Lord | The Dark Jedi Brotherhood

" You have…potential…"
― Braecen Kaeth

Echoes

Thran joined the Dark Jedi Brotherhood under Clan Exar Kun, where he immediately established himself as one of the most promising students the Clan had ever seen. Taking note of this, Grandmaster Chi-Long expressed interest in taking the young Thran under his tutelage. Shortly there after the Clan Exar Kun merged with Clan Satal Keto to form Clan Plagueis and Thran quickly adapted to the change in spite of losing his master. His instruction was passed along to a strong Sith by the name of Lusankya, who helped Thran reach the rank of Jedi Hunter. After a brief recess, Thran was passed over to Godo Nurok for the final stage of his instruction.

After reaching Dark Jedi Knight, Thran Occasus joined forces with long-time friend Braecen Kaeth to lead House Exar Kun. Their work was greatly successful and lead to the benefit of the entire clan. However, an argument between the Proconsul Salth Khan and then Consul Sarin forced Thran to resign. Without the strong allegiance to his Aedile, Braecen also fled the Clan. Occasus was detained during the Rites of Supremacy, forcing him to remain in the volatile Clan.

In the Flesh

Upon his departure, Thran sought to follow his old friend, who had already worked his way up to Quaestor in Clan Scholae Palatinae. The old allegiance would be beneficial for both parties, but more so for Thran. After several stints as Battle Team Leader, Braecen, who had recently been appointed Consul, enlisted Thran’s help to unify the leadership of the Clan. Two prominent leaders, Impetus and Rasilvenaira, would fall victim to the good looks and charisma of the Sith Warrior. In the early days, Thran joined House Caliburnus, where he became physically involved with Impetus Palpatine. The pair shared a similar “hit it and quit it” mentality, making the relationship beneficial on both ends. After growing bored of the ease of getting Impetus into bed, Thran focused his attention on a difficult catch; Rasilvenaira Kaeth StormRaven. Through his gratuitous use of his body, the Clan stabilized and began to press forward, thanks to the diligent “efforts” of the Sith.

Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

Thran bounced between relationships until he was conscripted to House Acclivis Draco. Braecen requested that his friend invest “special interest” in Rasilvenaira Kaeth StormRaven who held the position of Aedile. Something about the older woman stuck out to him, so he began to pursue her romantically. Although she expressed no interest in the beginning, Thran’s tenacity eventually roped her in. Thran advised her as troubles with the HAD summit shook the house. Though he was in no place to do so, she seemed to trust him. After the longest relationship of Thran’s life, the pair fell in love and continued to see each other throughout Thran’s usurping of the command of House Caliburnus. Eventually Rasilvenaira followed her man to House Caliburnus. They worked well together and after some deal of time established the House as the dominate house in the Clan.

Two Suns in the Sunset

" I wanna be called Jasmin…cause daddy loves jasmine flowers."
― Occasus’ daughter naming herself

After his tenure as Quaestor of Caliburnus, Occasus discovered that he had a daughter. He immediately brought her to live with him and begin her studies of the Force. Originally, he kept her as a servant in his hidden jungle mansion on Ptolomea, unsure of how to tell her the secret. A precocious 9, the girl quickly figured it out. Eventually, she came to live with Rasilvenaira as Thran is utterly inept at raising children.
