Vessel Info
The Imperial-class is designed to be a self-contained fleet of its' own, as well as operate effectively in larger fleet-wide roles. Often, a single ship is enough to pacify a system or keep the peace, and in fact is often designated as a peacekeeping battleship. Widely deployed by first the Galactic Empire, it still remains as effective as ever despite the introduction of newer warships.
History
Acquisition
The Indomitable has its' roots in Operation: Strike Back, initiated by then-Consul Timbal for Clan Scholae Palatinae. Seeing the then-Clan fleet as needing some serious firepower to help protect expanding Clan interests, Timbal initiated a crash program to fund the construction of two major warships. With the help of the then-Grand Master Jac Cotelin, a front was set up that was used to order the ships from Kuat Drive Yards. Although it took a few years, the ships were finally delivered and commissioned in 27 ABY, just in time to help defend the Clan home system after the destruction of the then-existing Clan fleet. In fact, for a few days, they were the only source of system defense present.
Service to the Palpatines
The ship was commanded by Captain Katalana Tamplin, previously the executive officer of the old Strike-class Cruiser Dark Predator. Her swift actions during the Predator 's last battle led to her promotion to Captain of her own ship. The crew was also mainly is made up veterans from the Predator. During deployments, however, command was superseded by Rayne Victae, as a representative of the Emperor. Captain Tamplin took the Executive Officer role for the duration. Due to the astonishing amount of action and success, the Indomitable had a crew rating of Elite.
Deployment
During periods of large-scale combat, the Indomitable was set to operate semi-independently as the lead ship of its' own task force, the Third Flotilla. When not engaged in active battle, the ship was usually aggressively patrolling Clan space, and occasionally making escort runs with Clan transports to keep enemy ships on their toes. Being that they crew was rated as Elite, their primary mission was to gain a wide range of experience in all types of missions, which their assignments were well-suited for.
Although the Clan Leadership experimented with tactics, Clan battle plans called for the Indomitable to be used as a flanking force in fleet-wide operations or in deep strike/headhunting missions. Also, the Task Force, with the Indomitable in the lead, was usually the first to be called upon in case of any hostilities in enemy territory.
Third Flotilla
Other than the ISD-II Indomitable, the following vessels were assigned to the Third Flotilla:
