"I'm not flying that thing. I heard it was possessed by a demonic AI."
―Captain Rohla Trugaim, pilot

The Harbinger is an Upsilon Class Command Shuttle owned by General Zentru'la, and serves as a base of operations for his crew and command ship for the Vornskr Battalion.

History

In the Service of the Scholae Empress

The Harbinger was originally purchased by Empress Dr. Elincia Rei of Clan Scholae Palatinae as her personal transport and command ship in her official capacity as Empress. Due to Elincia's tendency of avoiding battle and operating more on the back lines than exposing herself to danger, the ship saw heavy use in transporting the Empress around on diplomatic missions, but saw no real battle.

Elincia also saw an instance of G14-D05, an ancient, deranged artificial intelligence recovered from Rakatan ruins on Judecca, installed onto the ship. Elincia had repurposed the AI as a research assistant despite its occasional threats to overthrow all organic life, and it later became a critical support in her running of the Scholae Empire. Once integrated into the Harbinger, the AI gradually became more familiar with its new environment and started to operate the ship's systems independently.

General Zentru'la's Acquisition

Following her war crimes against the Severian Principate and apparent defection to the Collective, Elincia was assassinated by General Zentru'la of the Imperial Scholae Army. Zentru'la was hailed as a war hero and inherited Elincia's ranks, titles and possessions, including the Palpatine name as a trophy, and the Harbinger. It was the beginning of the Harbinger's role as a functional warship.

Swearing vengeance against the Collective for their role in his daughter's death, losing faith in the top level leadership of the clan after so long under the service of Xen'Mordin and Elincia, and seeing that he could do more fighting them on his own terms than serving the Imperial Scholae Army, Zentru'la decided to assemble his own team of elite specialists to engage in a personal vendetta against the Collective. His first recruit was Rohla Trugaim, a Duros pilot who had repeatedly been reprimanded for flying drunk and was held prisoner aboard the ISN Sidious. She had a reputation as the best pilot in the Navy, but was often running into issues with her alcoholism. Zentru'la didn't care, he just wanted the best and used his rank to break Rohla out of prison so she could pilot the Harbinger. She initially refused, claiming the ship was possessed, but eventually gave in.
