Zepar I is an asteroid captured by the gravitational pull of the moon Zepar, which orbits Iblis, under the dominion of Scholae Palatinae, residing in the Cocytus System.
Description
Known colloquially as "The Rock", Zepar I is a nickel-iron asteroid caught in the gravitational pull of the moon Zepar. Prior to being caught, the Rock drifted in the small asteroid belt in the Cocytus system. It is unknown as to why the asteroid left the field, but it is assumed to be the result of a collision with another, probably larger, asteroid.
While on its escape trajectory, it crossed the path of the moons Astaroth and Gressil before being captured in the gravitational wake of Zepar. Following the large moon like a duckling following its mother, the Rock has no real economic value. However, the placement of an observation post increased its military worth tenfold.
The post, though considered a punishment assignment by those stationing it, is of high importance, especially after the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. This post would act as an early warning system for any invaders from whatever 'hemisphere' of the system the Rock is located.
Notable Landmarks
Observation Post
Excavated deep into the rock, the Observation Post's only external protrusion is a steel 'blister' surrounded by antennae and dishes. This post was built early in the reign of Thran the Usurper, who saw the need to tighten the defenses of the system.
The Post is composed of ten levels although the lower five are taken up solely by the computer systems and the reactor. The outermost level is the main observation deck, housing the control systems and intelligence gathering technology. Most of the Post's assigned personnel work out of this level.
The second level is the officer's level, housing the offices, a mess hall, and the Marine barracks. The rest of the levels are billets for the non-commissioned officers and enlisted personnel, as well as the machinist and armory areas, and their mess hall.
Outlook
Political
Commander: Captain Brolo Kariain
Zepar I is a military installation and therefore has no political views other than those of the current reigning Emperor.
Military
As an important military installation, Zepar I has two full platoons of Marines as well as a space trooper squad as its defense corps. These forces, coupled with help from nearby moons as well as Zepar and Zepar II, create a strong wall of defense for the orbital.
Commerce
No commerce is present on Zepar I, as it is a military installation. However, the facility must import its foodstuffs and other necessities in order to function.
