The Vega Mine, also known as Dlarit Mine Five Beta, was one of the first mines commissioned by Dlarit Mining after the Dlarit Corporation migrated from Sif in the Phare system to the Orian system in 19 ABY. However the mine was closed down less than a year later after the mining crews blasted through into an underground cavern, following which inspection teams deemed operations at Five Beta too unstable to continue.
Despite the mine's closure, it remained, unofficially, an interest of the then Seng Karash mayor Sylus Vega, who saw it as a future "personal investment" prospect. Vega always planned for the future, and recognized Mine Five Beta as a possible redoubt should he ever need to make a quick exit from Seng Karash, be it for reason of an invasion or otherwise. When information came to light on Fae Taros, president of Dlarit Mining, Vega saw an opportunity too good to pass up, and used his new bargaining chip to secure the transfer of Five Beta—though all discussions were communicated through third parties, so as to keep Vega's involvement undiscovered and avoid implicating the mayor in anything underhanded.
The corrupt mayor used his authority to divert funds to the fortification of what had now come to be known as "Vega Mine". Direct access shafts were dug from Seng Karash's Undercity direct to Mine Five Beta, and various weapons and shielding instalments were fitted under the guise of a perfectly routine defense contract. However, Vega was forced to leave the lower levels alone, recognizing the mine had been shut down for good reason. As far as President Taros believed, the unknown investors had purchased it claiming they had uncovered an aurodium deposit in the old tricopper mine, but this was obviously a lie.
After Vega was implicated in the True Brotherhood invasion in 27 ABY for his involvement with the Sith witch Anaxela, the mayor was driven underground and went into hiding at Vega Mine, setting up his own rival corporation, Vega Incorporated, through which he now conducted his affairs from the shadows. When Vega was contacted by Yashais dei Izvoshra and signed up with the Peace Brigade in 29 ABY, he offered up Vega Mine to one of the Vong's chief infiltrators, Ona Amnan—known by her false identity as "Colonel" Wyla Sarn—to use as a staging point for the coming invasion by the forces under the commander of Varesh Shai in 31 ABY. Vega Incorporated was annexed into the Dlarit Corporation once again following the closure of these events allowing the mine to rightfully return to Dlarit control.
