Original Cohors Praetoria Taldryae
The Cohors Praetoria Taldryae was the Consul's Honor Guard. Two of the most active members in Clan Taldryan served in the position for a one month term, and then new members were selected. The Praetorian added a crimson stripe to the right sleeve of their robe while serving, signifying that they serve Consul of Taldryan, and are instruments of his wishes. At least one of them accompanied the Consul in all his travels, while another could be found lurking in the Clan Headquarters, spying for the Consul. They are all given elite guard training upon their appointment, and are feared warriors.
While not an official Brotherhood position, the Praetorian were a much sought-after position within Clan Taldryan, because it identified the members as the best of the best. The more terms served in the Praetorian, the more likely it is that medals and promotions will follow. If someone wanted to be an extension of the Consul's they would need to be as active as possible, in competitions, on the Message Boards and on IRC, and in anything someone could do. Following the Yuuzhan Vong Incursion Consul Duga Taldrya Arkarso dissolved the guard and the Consul's Fist while announcing a new elite unit to come.
Revival
In 39 ABY, Consul Seraine "Erinyes" Taldrya Ténama deactivated the positions of Gatekeeper and Lorekeeper and re-established the Cohors Praetoria Taldryae to honour the most effective Taldryan operatives. As the Gatekeeper and Lorekeeper did, the Cohors will be granted use of the DP20 Frigate Retribution and the Raider II-class Corvette Penumbra when carrying out missions on behalf of the Consul.
OOC Information
As of 2021, the title of Cohors Praetoria Taldryae is awarded to the two most active regular members of Taldryan in each quarter; members in leadership positions (Clan Summit, Quaestors, Aediles, and the leaders of independent Battle-Teams) are not eligible for the title. The reformed Cohors replacing the titles of Gatekeeper (most active Taldryan gamer) and Lorekeeper (most active Taldryan writer), in an effort to reflect the diversity of activity amongst Taldryan members.
To determine which members are awarded the title of Cohor, points are awarded for member activity as follows:
- Organising or co-organising a competition: 10 points
- Participation in a non-Cluster-awarding competition: 5 points
- Completing a Shadow Academy course: 3 points
- Cluster of Fire: 2 points
- Cluster of Earth: 1 point
- Cluster of Ice: 2 points
- Cluster of Graphite (when awarded for participation in graphics competitions): 6 points
- Public Non-Competition Fiction (posted on the Discourse forums): 1 point/250 words (equivalent to Clusters of Ice, which award 2 points/500 words)
Points are not awarded for participation in competitions which also award Clusters to their participants, in the interests of not giving members double credit (first for competition participation, then again for the effort involved) for the same activity. Likewise, earning a Crescent for placement in a competition does not earn members extra points towards their Cohors score, as the goal is to promote activity regardless of skill level.
Note: The scoring system used to award the Cohors titles may be adjusted in the future, if necessary. Any future adjustments to the system will not result in retroactive awarding or removal of the title.
