Aerun was the former home of House Exar Kun. It was once engulfed in ice, however, much like Kapsina it underwent massive environmental change and was transformed into a moderately temperate climate. The planet is composed of six continents: Tesh-Relin, Decaria, Erineth, Barridon, Kelimar and Nyo. The various terrain types provided by the continents serve as an excellent training ground for Plagueis' ground forces.

During the Eighth Great Jedi War, Aerun was reduced to little more than a barren wasteland. Bombed by the Yuuzhan Vong, all of the major cities and structures on the surface were destroyed and a quarter was terraformed to the invaders’ liking. The once great symbols of Exar Kun, Ash Citadel and Diadem Fortress, were also destroyed in the attack, forcing House Exar Kun to take refuge on Kapsina. Today, the planet is undergoing repairs, but it is uncertain rather it will ever be suitable for House Exar Kun.

Satellite Description

Relaren

Roughly equivalent to the size of the Earth's moon. The first 'moon' of Aerun is geographically mountainous, in addition to being covered in snow and ice -- completely glacial climate. Several mountain ranges merge into a dormant volcano, Toevarlinli. Recent science studies determine that the volcano will remain dormant for at least the next hundred years. The geothermal energy it produces, however, is harnessed and redistributed to a small station and training facility for the Dark Jedi of Exar Kun. It has a self-contained atmosphere that presents adequate amounts of oxygen.

Rakmar

Almost equal to the size of Relaren, it is stationed slightly closer to the planet and shares Aerun's ability to support life. Heavily forested, with a cool atmosphere, it is prime conditions for a host of deadly creatures that inhabit the uncivilized 'moon.' Several outposts/fortresses have been strategically placed to allow for training and observation upon the satellite that plays host to the Dark Jedi of Exar Kun. This moon also includes an atmosphere, unlike Relaren, it is unusually high in the amount of oxygen it holds.

Joran

The farthest from Aerun, Joran is the third 'moon' of Aerun and is roughly half the size of Relaren. Rocky and possessing next to no planet life, it is a desolate satellite that has little life beyond plants. Currently unclaimed, the satellite plays host to several research camps and the planet's HoloNet transmitter. It has no atmosphere, but adequate gravity -- in addition, the normal white dust is instead an intense red.

Landmarks

Diadem Fortress

Diadem Fortress was built by Scorpius during his reign as Quaestor, in an effort to remember some of the things lost when the Acarr System went supernova. At the height of its power, it housed the summits of House Exar Kun, as well as most of the house and guests of the Dark Jedi visiting the planet. During the Invasion of Jusadih, however, Diadem Fortress was destroyed, and replaced by the Vong base 'Si'Tilkd'. When the Dark Jedi returned to the planet, they destroyed it, and are currently in the process of building a new fortress.

Ash Citadel

Ash Citadel is one of the first bases built on Aerun, and was at first House Exar Kun's base of operations until the erection of Diadem Fortress, although it was still used by many as a place of residence and training centre. When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded, the citadel was destroyed. Currently, a smaller version of the citadel is being built in its place, as well as a monument of the original.
