Mayda is a Krath Priestess with a passion for plants and animals. Though a member of House Scholae Palatinae, the charismatic free-spirit belongs to no family and has no true home. She roams as she pleases, seeking knowledge and new experiences. On some worlds, she is known as "The Scarlet Witch", since it was fabled that only witches could cry out of their left eye. The trademark three scars that appear as permanent tears are constant reminders of the pain from burns old and new and the promise of joy to be renewed.

Her true race is unknown to others as she appears as a Human. Mayda herself has only recently discovered what race it is, which explains her emerald eyes, odd blood and tolerance for warmth and fire. As a new priestess, she has begun studying alchemy, botany and horticulture.

Character History

Birth

Mayda L. Ferium was a near-human female born on Utapau in 6 ABY. Though she was raised on the Outer Rim planet she always knew that she never truly belonged there. She was unusual, not one of the native species, and the only force-sensitive girl that inhabited the lesser-populated areas. The namesake of her grandmother, she bore a striking resemblance and had much in common with her: fire-red hair and emerald eyes, the same fiery temper, and the ability of pyrokinesis. Nothing is known about her mother.

Childhood

File:Mayda lil girl.JPG
A young Mayda

Mostly reclusive, Mayda and her father, Elric Ferium, hid out in a remote, lesser-known city-sinkhole on the planet Utapau, where her grandmother had been raised. As a young child, she was content, but sheltered. She made many friends, mostly Utai and other Humanoids, but never really felt comfortable around Humans, not having seen them often.

When Mayda was a little girl, she always knew that she was special. Of course it helped that her father told her so repeatedly, every night at bedtime. She was gifted, with the Force, and was able to do some trivial parlor tricks - moving utensils across the table, sensing danger from others, but nothing more as her talents were untrained. Her father didn’t want to encourage his precious little girl to become a Force-user for many reasons, but mostly for their well-being and survival. There could ostensibly be danger if they were found to be living there; Mayda never knew the reasons for that. Elric did not want Mayda to improve her skills and come to use them on others or rely on them, as that would be dangerous to anyone who was her victim, and call attention to them.

Mayda was always looked after by her father, so there was no reason to need self-defense. He taught her to find other ways to get herself out of a dilemma first - using diplomacy, negotiation, manipulation, deception or anything else verbal or non-confrontational. So her cunning and guile were developed from an early age, and she showed great talent in that and an affinity for it. Perhaps this was accentuated by her Force-talents, but that would not be obvious to most species they came in contact with on Utapau.

At the age of 13, she was traveling on a transport with her father to some Outer Rim world as part of his undisclosed but shady business ventures. Before they reached it, the ship crashed, leaving Mayda with burns and scarring, though glad to survive, thanks in part to some force healing from her father. After that, she stayed reclusive for a few years.

Adolesence

At the age of 16, she became a liaison to the Utapau Representatives to the New Republic, working behind their back as an undercover spy for Black Sun. Her father was a secret agent for Black Sun, and therefore encouraged Mayda, as one of the few Humans there, to serve as a Liaison and Assistant to some Republic and Utapaun politicians. She would finally put into use her mental skills of deception and charm to gather information. Though her father had relented and taught her basic self-defense, he stressed that she should never resort to violence unless it was an emergency, especially since she was not physically strong and trained in combat. Elric recognized and told her that her mind was her greatest weapon. She excelled at studying her enemies and exposing their weaknesses, playing on their vanity and other shortcomings. Moving to Pau City, she lived amongst the politicians, and only met secretly with her father every month. She was able to gather Classified information and pass it onto Black Sun through him.

Path to the Brotherhood

Fire Starter, Mankvim-814

In 24 ABY, the NR made a wide sweep, arresting all Black Sun Agents, including her father. Mayda was not discovered as part of them, but was about to be under suspicion, so she fled Utapau. The Republic had control of all the starfighters and could track them, so Mayda had to find an old ship in a junkyard on the edge of the city. The Mankvim-814 was a leftover from the days of the Separatists, but was functional enough to get her safely off-planet. With the monetary savings that her father had amassed, she had the ship refitted with new engines and updated technology. For a year or so, she traveled to a few outer rim planets, and was able to afford some plastic surgery and bacta treatment to heal some of her scars. Her anger and loneliness only exaggerated her leaning toward the Dark side. She decided that she must find a place where there were others like her, others who could take her in, as part of their organization. In 26 ABY, a spice smuggler told her to seek out the moon Lyspair.

DJB History

Entrance

Shadow Academy Tutelage

26 ABY, Month 1 - Mayda Ferium arrived on Lyspair, and was accepted into the Dark Jedi Brotherhood. Entering the Shadow Academy, she read about the Krath, and knew for certain that was the Order she belonged in. She was very curious to meet other Krath and see how much they would improve her, inspire her, teach her and empower her. Passing the basic subjects, she concentrated on courses at the Deneba Campus. Upon Graduation, she was assigned to House Exar Kun of Clan Plagueis.

Clan Plagueis

Though nervous and reserved about the new setting, many Clan members were welcoming and offered advice, looking out for the young female. She progressed through the lower ranks quickly, due to her incessant studying, yen for writing and hunger for winning Competitions. Krath Priest Starlion was her first mentor and kept an eye on her progress. She went on her first mission with DJK Al’Tor to Kintan, recruiting a force-sensitive Nikto to the Brotherhood.

In month two, she continued her studies and training. Upon reaching Protector rank, Valerian Orzon noticed her and took her on as his Apprentice. One mission was to Eden to scout a possible base for Plagueis with GRD Tyren Atema. A second was to Korriban to investigate a possible Star Map in the Valley of the Sith Lords with Laigerick and Niman for BT Exar’s Shadow. She assisted in the murder of a traitorous fake, keeping his whip. Joining the staff of the Dark Voice kept her very busy for her first issue, working under the tutelage of DA Telona Murrage. Another important task was researching and presenting a report about HEK to new Justicar DA Kir Katarn.

In month three, as a Guardian, she was appointed Commander of Battle Team Exar’s Shadow, after Laigerick mysteriously disappeared. Recruiting and training members, she lead them through the Third Rite of Supremacy. A source of great pride for her was being on the debate team, even going against the ex-Grand Master and helping Plagueis reach third place overall. One mission required returning to her home world, to investigate a force-user reportedly doing ‘miracles’. Mayda apprehended him and transported him to a remote area, for personal reasons, but did not tell the full story to the House Summit. Drained from the ROS, Mayda thought it best to resign her BTL position, feeling proud of how the group had grown. Under the guidance of the new Consul, she worked to make logistical improvements and heal the members' battle wounds from the ROS.

Ambria's Amber

File:MaydaAmber2.JPG
Amber Talisman

27 ABY, Month 4 - During a visit to Antei during the Rite of Supremacy, Mayda became possessed by Tiamat's ghost, who directed her to Ambria to discover her destiny. Her mind was cleared by the Krath Priestess in order to seem like a light-sider, in order to deceive the ghost of Jedi Master Thon. The objective was to solve riddles and pass three trials from him. She retrieved a Sith Sword from the lake, losing two toes to some Hssiss, but killing them. Then she found a descendant of Ossus Wilum, a teen named Vido who healed her while in surgery to receive cybernetic toes. Going back to the lake, she was told to destroy the talisman, but refused to kill the boy, thus succeeding in the trials. The ancient Wharl allowed her to keep the sword, Fire Blade. Vido insisted she take the amber amulet with her, to protect her always, though she still was not sure what power it holds inside.

Flight, not Fight

Upon her return to Aerun, she was assigned a new Master, Dismal al'Tor. Alas, even his tutelage and the recent ceremony of the title of Exalted Lord of Kun was not enough to overcome her growing desire to leave. Disillusioned and disenchanted by turmoil in Plagueis, she felt pulled into a deep despair. Going to Antei, she got right to work on another Dark Voice Issue, not quite recovered from the Ambria experience. After some talks with the leaders, she started believing that no one else shared her values. Sure, she could fight the system, but if she was the only one who wanted the changes, it would only hurt the Clan. It was a tough decision, as she knew she would be leaving behind people that she had grown to care about. On the eve of the CP Senate elections, she fled Aerun in the night, slipping out under cover of darkness, feeling a strong pull to do so immediately. The Jedi Hunter went into hiding for a few days, taking a small vacation to the Ragnos Cathedral in Orian to see Tyren Atema again.

Not wanting to leave the Brotherhood, she made a brief stop in Antei to meet with the Grand Master himself. He gave her renewed determination and guidance, assigning her a new destination. One name stuck in her mind, recalled from some lessons on HEK History - Braecen Kunar, the Forsaken Son of Plagueis. The former Proconsul of Plagueis was considered a traitor of the highest order, so if anyone could understand her position and not look down on her for it - he could. Her Mankvim fighter landed on Judecca, into the hangar bay in the north mountains. Entering the triangular Headquarters, she was granted a private meeting with the Consul, Pontifex Kunar. She now had a new Master.

Trials and Tribulations

Red Heirloom

27 ABY, Month 5 - It was a busy first month in her new clan - the CSP Summer Olympiads, melee training, SA courses, and the task to make her own lightsaber. Luckily the supply room on Antei provided her with all the necessary materials, though the synthetic generator crystal was obtained from the mysterious Alchemy Labs.

Fitting in some time during the evenings, she spent weeks researching and assembling the parts, meticulously crafting every detail. However, when the time came to remotely activate the saber with a droid - it exploded, injuring only her hopes and confidence. Mulling it over with Master Kunar, she suspected foul play. When she had visited the lab, the worker who provided the crystal had leered at her, obviously recognizing her. Returning to there, she used her wiley ways of persuasion to get a new crystal and vindication for the sabotage. Still not sure who was behind the malicious deed, she has her suspicions.

Concurrently during those six weeks, she trained as hard as she could, competing in every Palatinae Olympiad event, even while working on her other Knighthood trials. Braecen demanded more of her than any other apprentice, and she exceeded his expectations at every turn. After proudly completing all of her Knighthood trials, she waited, in limbo, for word on the ceremony.

Betrayal and Flight

However, her time there would be cut short. Instead, her Quaestor, RevengeX, called her into his office to ask for another promise - that of loyalty to House Acclivis Draco, as he bestowed upon her the honor of entry into the Order of the Dragon, as the Fang of Fire. Unknown to him, her Master had deeply hurt and betrayed her mere days before, beyond all repair. And so she made the sudden decision to unexpectedly but confidently turn it down, and fled out of the window, into the dark unknown. Again.

The Rogue wandered in darkness for a fortnight, lost to herself. She has never revealed what happened during those two weeks, but upon her return, changed her order to Sith.

Clan Arcona

Mayda had kept in contact with a training partner, Malidir Erinos. They discovered that they shared a lot in common and became fast friends. After she returned to the Brotherhood, she sought him out, and followed him. Right away, she was welcomed into the new group, even being instantly accepted into the Battle Team, which was quite an honor. Getting to know the Proconsul, Timeros Entar, she found him to be loyal, protective and honorable, as he proved within her first few days there, defending Mayda to the Grand Master, and assigning her to lead a special Clan project.

Knighthood

27 ABY, Month 7 - After meticulous study and steady work on her project, the Clan and House leaders sought to finally bestow upon her, that milestone which had kept eluding her, through personal choices and bad timing.

GJW 7

Mayda looked forward to working side by side with her new comrades. But yet again, events were determined by outsiders, as a Vong invasion force attacked Antei System, destroying one of the main Arcona ships.

No sooner than she had become a Knight, she found herself taking in a student. Moloch Argantes, her close friend from their days in Plagueis, had found her on Eldar, immediately before they heard of the Vong Invasion. Since it was wartime, he joined Arcona, under the condition that only Mayda be the one to lead the Protector to Knighthood. Also, during this time, Mayda discovered that her Fiction Tribune, Ricco Vao, had plagiarized one of her reviews in the DJB publication, and that he was exempt from any prosecution, and she would not be given credit. This unfairness did not sit well with her, but was apparently commonplace among the Brotherhood.

Betrayal and Injustice

While Arcona was undergoing major renovations, Mayda stepped up to serve as Clan Envoy, working hard and supporting the new leader whom she had nominated. However, with the pending enactment of changes came strife. Her own clan leader and the jealous narcissist made false claims about her, trying to discredit her to the rest of the clan and find a scapegoat for their shady actions. The Justicar heard her plea and agreed she was wronged, but refused to charge the Arcona leaders. This injustice became unbearable and caused her to lose all faith in the Brotherhood. Mayda found herself unable to perform her Envoy duties in good conscience, or even continue to serve under the conditions.

Leaving the Brotherhood

A long-coming decision was made to go back into the great unknown. Though several friends offered her to join their clans, she needed to go her own way. With Moloch by her side, they set course for a new system, excited about their new found freedom.

Never Say Never Return

36 ABY, Month 1 - Setsuna Sakurazaki found Mayda on her homeworld of Utapau and warned her of the coming genocide of force users by the One Sith. Mayda was highly skeptical and did not trust this young assassin. Sabers were drawn, but a fight was avoided by explanations. Setsuna slyly offered the options of staying there like a sitting duck or coming back to join the fight, with some level of protection from a Brotherhood elder whom she could not name. Mayda accepted, with a few stipulations, and an optimistic idea of the patron's identity.

The Last Homely House of Marka Ragnos

Setsuna guided Mayda's ship toward the base of Naga Sadow and let her choose some quarters that were away from the main area, for privacy and secrecy then left her to settle in. The next day, she updated her dossier and requested a new warbanner, recalling the ennui brought on by the Brotherhood's bureaucracy and administration. Within minutes there was a message on her datapad from a Magistrate: "You're really back?" A smile showed her joy to be welcomed by an old friend.

Within a couple weeks, she was welcomed into the battle team Scepter of Ragnos, an elite group who seek to restore the power of the ancient Lord Ragnos. Once Mayda read about him, she began studying his lore and learning all she could about his lost holocron. Her reputation as the Scarlet Witch would inspire her to work on her force powers and dark arts. Mainly living on the Inos moon with her brethren, she would still visit The Shadow Academy and Temples of Orian often.

The Dark Crusade

Nfolgai

36 ABY, Month 2 - CNS investigated the base of The One Sith on planet Nfolgai of the Sith Worlds. Mayda and her droid Kurupt retrieved an ancient shield and vase from the crashed Interdictor Destroyer ship in the northern polar ice cap.

Orian: Temple of Sorrow - The members of the clan were gathering to train for the next instance of confrontation. Mayda was in the Library of Artifacts of Sadow Palace, meeting her clansmen, when they were interrupted. A hooded figure approached and greeted her. Her heart and breath stopped for a moment - Tyren Atema. They parted the Library and met up to talk privately. She felt joy, then worry, then frustration, then tears from old wounds reopened by her long-lost love. But the threat of the One Sith was ramping up and the time of peace would soon be at an end.

Three Tears

36 ABY, Month 3 - CNS was called to send expedition teams to the sacred planet of Sadow to gather intel on the One Sith's interests there. Mayda's team included Consul Sonjie, Methyas, Araxis and Tyren. While battling Sith behemoths near the old Sadow citadel ruins, Mayda ran from the Sith Lord into the ruins. Cornered by him, he delivered a sinister message to her personally from a being from her recent past. This sparked a barrage of pieces of painful memories, like shrapnel in old wounds. Used as bait for a trap for her team, she was injected with a potion that makes her feel her body is on fire, evoking more painful memories from her childhood fighter crash. The team rescued her and succeeded in their mission, which made her elated and relieved. But, she was not alright. Var'zhul's red face still lingered in her mind, his fire still coursed through her veins, and a shard of him still lie embedded within her core. And now, he had been informed of these facts. She would never truly be safe while he lived.

Returning to Sepros for a debriefing, she held much anger and wanted revenge. She thought she was strong and could go fight with the clan. But then, the after effects of the torture began to take hold. For it was not just physical, it was in her head and would not leave. So, she swiftly fled the base to have some time away to work on recovery and training. The chains that bound her had not been broken; only her heart. She had been weak, her emotions put her at risk and endangered the team. She now only desired to become strong, for the battles ahead. A battlefield promotion by her clan was awarded for her efforts. Though not impressed by position, she was excited to begin specializing in the Krath arts.

Haunted by the lingering sensations and images, a new passion was ignited within her to seek the knowledge that others had, which could cause such destruction within a being. Training was sought so that powers could grow in the Force.

Existential Excursion

After a week of visiting some old friends and a stop at the Tarthos HQ to pick up her new robes, Mayda set out for a month long vacation, booked from a brochure that she had picked up. The Tropix Island Resort on Dorumaa was the perfect place to begin her healing and search for the meaning of life. Her days were spent basking in the sun, swimming in the ocean with the giant sea turtles and exploring the native flora of the islands. There - life was all around her and within her. It was a paradise. She felt relaxed, renewed and reinvigorated with a new purpose to life.

House Scholae Palatinae

Brent Victae had mentioned the difficulties that HSP was facing: the inactive recruits and lack of Dark Jedi in battles. Mayda decided to travel to Judecca to speak with Quastor Xen'Mordin Vismorsus about the values and needs of the House. She found they were in line with her own talents and there were more Krath and scholars there. So, she rejoined an old Clan, hoping to bring a new energy to its people and find her own spark again.

Independence Games

Mayda came to live on Judecca, arriving just as the Independence Games were beginning, in honor of the tenth anniversary of the Exodus. She met most of the active members of the House, then she was assigned to room with PRT Aquarius and they became fast friends and attended the Summer Tour of The Dark Believers. Mayda's enthusiasm for playing games led her to host one and to participate in twenty six of them, winning the shooting game "Anger the Birdies" and placing high in several others. The games were too much fun and full of too much ale. For one morning, Mayda and her pal Maelous Ascarend woke in a motel room on Mustafar with a bad hangover, Rodian baby on the floor and a Tauntaun locked in the bathroom. After a few interrogations, they discovered she had "married" the Kiffar male stripper known as Larrrj Pak`kage, though she had no memory or cognizance of the unjoyous event. She would not even believe she had ever touched such a man, had it not been for the photographic proof they found in the camera. Legal documents were filed for an annulment, but Larrrj is still holding out hope.

After the games finished, she called for her student, Moloch Argantes to return, now that she was certain it was safe to do so.

The Dark Crusade

Bhargebba

Soon after the Independence Games, the DJB had two more targets to take from the One Sith. Mecrosa had an intel base on Bhargebba that DJB teams infiltrated, but as usual, Arcona were the ones to win control of the planet. Mayda spent most of her time in the Pazaak Cantina, dragging in some HSP apprentices to practice with her. Her gambling problem morphed into an obsession with beating her archrival, Varkain 'Corin' Athanas.

HSP Summer Olympics

File:HSP Rat Battle.jpg
HSP Rat Battle Royale

After a mini-vacation on a Star Tours trip, the HSP Olympics had begun. Mayda remembered fondly the events from years ago and asked to host an event this year, in which she chose a poetry competition. Her favorite event was the Rat Battle Royale, driving the vermin out of the Colosseum. After finishing all ten events, as was her goal, she encouraged her apprentice and other new members. "Now is the time for fun, for tomorrow will bring another battle."
