Kordath is, at his most basic, a simple soul looking for a life less complicated by the pettier ideals or superfluous ambitions popular to most of his comrades. His nomadic people carry with them a wanderer's heritage, calling no place in the Galaxy home, instead finding belonging in their family, folklore, and stories, despite a heavy reputation as thieves and gypsies. This influence is apparent in Kordath’s nature, as he has reservations interacting with and befriending other people, despite his kinder inclinations. His appreciation for an unhurried and a largely peaceful, salt-of-the-earth lifestyle are most obvious in his nonviolent tendencies, his love for just few, fine things—like whiskey, quiet moments, and decent reading material—and his easier association with other plain, hearty folk, like mundane workmen and soldiers.

Character History

Childhood

Class VI Bulk Freighter

Born to the Bleu Clan sometime around 7 ABY, Kordath Bleu started live on the move. His family of Ryn were traveling through the mid-rim on an ancient Class VI Bulk Freighter when his mother delivered him into the galaxy, another burden on the traveling family. Despite this, he was taken care of as well as can be expected when you're born to a group of traveling folk, though to this day he claims his short height is a result of malnourishment.

His first few years, once he was walking and talking anyways, were spent behind a veil of lies. Never let out of sight by his parents or elders of the clan, the young Ryn didn't know how the galaxy at large felt about his people. Only when he reached about his tenth name day did his father bring him out to aid in the clan's ventures. Working alongside his father and uncles, cousins, and older brother Kordo, did he learn just how much the people of the galaxy despised his race.

Despite this disillusionment, Kordath kept a cheery disposition throughout his childhood, learning various trades, or at least the starts of them, alongside his family. The angry looks, occasional rude comment, which his father taught him to ignore before he could even be allowed to work, passed by the young Ryn like a breeze. He never let others thoughts about him and his kind bother him, instead focusing on the task at hand, which in the overall picture, was survival. They worked so as to pay the clan's way, whether it be for food and shelter, or transport when the local toughs would start spending a bit too much time watching their camp.

As such, Kordath had seen a dozen worlds in nearly three years, never spending long on any one planet, and never long at a single job. He learned how to mine, he learned how to farm, how to sew, cook, clean, drive speeders, even some light repair work concerning starships and swoop bikes. The Ryn soaked it in, everything he could learn he would pursue, and what little spending money he was allotted from the work would go to data cards with books, excepting the clothes on his back they were his only possession. Even the clothes weren't really his, but of the clan, and would be given to another youth when he outgrew them.

At this early age, Kordath was exposed to Sabacc, a game that his brother claimed the Ryn had invented, centuries ago. From his brother he learned how to play, and just when he thought he was getting good, winning more then he was losing, his father learned of it. A nigh playing with his father and uncles taught him how much Kordo had held back on teaching him, how much his brother had been playing him for his own amusement.

From his brother, father, and uncles, Kordath learned how to play seriously, to win credits if he could find anybody willing to play a Ryn. He learned to read people, something that gradually opened up feeling people later on in life, and he learned how to get good at the game. This was all well and good, and would help him throughout most o f his life when he was really desperate for credits, people always assumed that if a Ryn was winning at cards, he had a skifter up their sleeve.

While this was useful, from his mother he learned another talent, one generally learned by the women of the clan, but his sisters weren't old enough yet for her to teach. She taught him how to read the cards, to lay them out and chart a course through life with them. Divination was an old art amongst the Ryn, she taught him, that the cards had been originally designed for that very purpose, not the gambling of arrogant men. In later years, as Kordath grew more familiar with his abilities with the Force, he would revisit the 'games' that his mother had taught him, of laying out cards, and was disturbed by the accuracy. This talent wasn't so useful for making his way through the galaxy....many people viewed a fortune teller without either a hump on their back, or weren't female, as totally illegitimate. Versus the usual kind, which bothers Kordath to this day.

Even with all the bigotry and hate around him, Kordath believed this to be a wonderful life. The scenery was ever changing, there was always new people, and he'd even make friends with local children. Right up until their parents found out, suddenly he wouldn't see the other youths, and his own family was hesitant to explain the reasons to one of the only members who still had some kind of hopeful view on life. Even when bandits would raid the camps, the Ryn doing their best to compromise and give up whatever was demanded to avoid violence, Kordath kept his cheer. Even when the authorities would do nothing, the young Ryn would do his best to cheer up his little sisters and put smiles on his parent's faces. Nearing his thirteenth year, around 20 ABY, Kordath's life changed drastically aboard Hosk station. This would mark a turning point for the young Ryn, and start him down a road that could only lead to darkness.

Hosk Station and Lonely Travels

As the Ryn started the agonizing climb into adulthood, oddness started to manifest, he lost his cheerful exterior as he gained a strange empathy for those around him. His parents were saddened by this, thinking it was the loss of childhood innocence finally catching up with their son, but they didn't realize how deep the change was. Kordath started to read the emotions of those nearest to him, first his parents, a quiet stubbornness that defied the anger and hate that many directed towards the clan; his older brother, Kordo, and his increasing rage at the way his family was treated by the locals on every world they traveled to. And the still oddly cheerful hope of childhood from his two little sisters, Karina and Karo. If not for his sisters, Kordath would likely have slipped into a deep depression from not being able to stop seeing how people felt around him.

Another strange ability started to manifest itself within the Ryn, though at the time he couldn't have known it was the Force speaking to him in some manner. Kordath would claim that the camp was going to be attacked soon, and when questioned, he'd simply tell the elders that he 'just knew it'. When the young Ryn's predictions were consistently proven right, the elders grew nervous. His parents thought him paranoid or mad at first, but quickly learned to do what any folk who were victimized on a regular basis do; they accepted it. Kordath began to 'feel' trouble before it would come, whether to the clan or to just himself, he began picking up on things that would cause them harm when working dangerous jobs.

Over time his ability was simply accepted by the clan, when they started heeding it raids on the camps would go awry, and the Bleu clan started to gain some measure of hope for their future. This all changed on Hosk station, in the Kalabra system, when Karina and Karo didn't turn up for the clan's mealtime one evening. Barely eight years of age at that point, the two children weren't even supposed to be apart from the clan, and no one was certain where the children were. Station authorities couldn't be bothered, to them the Ryn was a borderline infestation, tolerated at best due to their willingness to do work no one else really wanted to do.

Two days later, the Bleu's were getting scared on top of worried, and Kordath was feeling every ounce of it. Fear and anger saturated the cargo hold that they'd been allowed to live in for the past few days, and they were due out on a freighter the next morning to some agricultural world to work as farm hands for a time. Farming usually was the best work they would get, people needed the help, they were cheaper to 'maintain' then droids, and normally they were left alone by the locals outside of the farmers. But if they left, they'd be leaving two of their children behind, and Kordath was certain this would cause immeasurable pain for the clan.

The Ryn were unhappy, and no one on the station was willing to help them; they were simply waiting for them to leave. Kordath slipped out of the hold during the night cycle, needing to get away from his crying mother, his stone faced father, his brother who had nearly broken both hands punching the bulkheads in anger and frustration. He wandered the station, passing from public areas to maintenance without a thought of what he was doing, feeling a tug that was leading him...somewhere. It was an odd sensation, filtering through his own frustration and pain of loss and uncertainty, something was drawing him further into the dark bowels of the station.

Kordath had never felt this before, he'd become used to knowing what others were emotionally feeling, even sometimes what they were thinking. But he'd never felt...lead before, as if something was pushing him. His own curiosity, an attribute that had lead more then one young Ryn to his death, urged him on as well, something to distract him from the loss of his sisters. Passing through a rusted open hatch somewhere deep in the station's inner workings, Kordath stopped and grabbed his head, sharp pains shooting through his skull. He could feel his sisters nearby, he could feel their fear and their pain. And he wasn't sure how he could stop it.

Kordath could see a door, on the other side of the door, he was certain, was his kin. Others were in their as well, though if you were to ask the Ryn who they were, what they looked like, he'd never be able to tell you. Hours after a feeling pulled him to his missing sisters, he returned them to his parents and clan, an event that should have been joyous if not for the utter silence it was met with. Even with not a mark on him, Kordath was different to his family, they could tell. It radiated off of him, and when the morning came and the station security came looking for him, he didn't argue, his family didn't plead. They let him go, and he went.

In the end he was released, even the station managers couldn't overlook a slavery ring using what was supposed to be a legitimate port of call as a staging area. By the time they let him go, his clan was gone, and Kordath knew he'd never see them again. The station authorities had told him he had to get off the station, they weren't sure if the men that had taken his sisters had friends on board, and they didn't want anymore trouble. To speed this, they bought his passage on the first transport out, which was the first and last charity Kordath ever experienced in his life.

He was alone now, truly alone. The transport ride was a strange experience for the Ryn, having almost always traveled in cargo bays, or on occasion, maintenance tunnels that the clan stowed away in. It was disconcerting to Kordath, being able to see space, to be surrounded by so many species, many of which he'd never seen before. Some didn't know what he was either, it seemed, as they were indifferent, some did, and seemed to clutch what baggage they were allowed to carry a bit harder when he was around.

It dumped him in the outer rim, on a planet that was barely notable enough to have a name, and not important enough for Kordath to remember it. Being young and alone was rough, but the Ryn had skills, and had sat in with his father on more then one job negotiation. He spent a few weeks on the rock, doing odd jobs and sleeping behind a shop at night, before he scrapped enough credits to hop on another ship to another rock. He kept this up for nearly two years, working, moving, working, and just trying to survive. In this time he learned the joys of stowing away by yourself, how to sneak into ships and vacant buildings, how to steal a bit of food here and there to keep going.

Somewhere in his mind he knew, that if his father had ever known what Kordath was doing, he'd have been disappointed. The longer he was out there, hopping across the outer-rim, the less that thought worried him. By the time he was sixteen, he'd learned how to thieve his way to survival rather then break his back working, he got good at it, slipping in and out of places that he shouldn't. Despite his caution while performing these deeds, eventually he'd always have to leave the planet he'd land on, chased off by natives or security, someone claiming he was a thief just because he was Ryn. Even though he was in fact a thief now, it was an accusation that always caused problems. When someone is declared a thief by enough people in a community, it gave them someone to pin all the troubles on.

And then Kordath stepped off a ship on to Nar Shadda, and his life changed yet again. Bright lights, foul air, and more species then the Ryn had ever dared imagine. The type of place that would be full of the worst kinds in the galaxy, the type of place that even a Ryn could get lost in the crowd. The type of place that he thought he could make a home for once.

Nar Shadda living treated the Ryn surprisingly well, much better then anyone could have expected. Almost fifteen years had passed since his separation from his clan, and Kordath had survived and, some would say, flourished. Gaining a reputation for being able to get into places he shouldn't, and always getting out again, had gotten him somewhat steady work with local crime lords. Everyone needed spies, and Kordath proved time and again that he was capable of infiltrating rival gangs strongholds and stealing information or 'product'. The fact that sometimes the same criminals he stole from in service of another would turn around and hire him to retaliate just made things more lucrative.

On a day like any other, being invited to the offices of a criminal lord of quite impressive standing, as Nar Shadda standings went, he thought it would be just another job. As soon as he entered the building Kordath felt things we're different this time, something was off. He'd had the feeling once before, and other feelings like it in many of the times he was nearly caught or shot, something he tried to avoid. The one time this feeling had pervaded the Ryn's very being was the day he killed three men on Hosk Station, fifteen years prior. Curious and more then a little apprehensive, Kordath decided to keep his appointment with the crime boss despite the feeling of being guided by an unknown hand.

When Kordath walked through the door to the office, he knew life had just changed again. Expecting the fat, smelly man that would provide him his next paycheck, he was surprised by the tall, hairy Mirialan dressed in swoop leathers waiting in the room as well. At first sight, Kordath knew this man was different from anyone he'd ever dealt with, and he knew without a doubt that he was dangerous. While Kordath has never told anyone what was spoken of while in that room, his life on Nar Shadda ended, and a new one began.

Adulthood

Kessel and Swoops

Etah d'Tana took Kordath away from Nar Shadda, making vague references to the Ryn having an ability that few in the galaxy had. Before he would tell him more, Etah was going to make certain the Ryn was trustworthy, thus they went to Kessel. There Kordath was introduced to the Thrice Damned Swoop club, a group of brutes with leathers and swoop bikes. His time here was spent oddly, learning to ride was of course required, but mostly he set about the Ryn-like business of running games of chance among the swoopers.

With no one to steal from anymore, Kordath left that part of himself behind, using his skills of stealth to assist in keeping watch when the gang went on runs, scouting locations and the like. After nearly a year he was introduced to the knowledge that the Damned we're part of a larger organization that made his own criminal activities on Nar Shadda look like the games of a toddler.

After two years on Kessel, with no signs of betrayal or information leaking, as Kordath really had no one else in his life as it was, Etah finally explained what he'd meant when he first took the Ryn in. Thus started Kordath's dark path to the Brotherhood.

Scholarly Pursuits and Carnivorousness Invaders

The first time Kordath set foot on Lyspair he knew that the course of his life had changed yet again. Idle competitiveness between students of the Shadow Academy not withstanding, the Ryn found himself in an environment where learning wasn't just an option, it was life-saving. And Kordath threw himself into his studies, taking every course that time allowed him to and generally having an enjoyable time. It was no surprise when the Ryn took up the purple of the Krath Order when questioned as to where his pursuits would lie.

Due to Etah's influences, the newly minted Krath ended up in House Galeres of Clan Arcona, where he found a surprisingly diverse group of individuals. While acclimating to his new surroundings, and attempting to pursue his studies in the lore of the Force, the House's home of Eldar was attacked by a group of cannibals how believed that the flesh of Force Sensitives would give them power. Everyone was called to fight, including the Ryn whom disliked everything that happened in the following weeks.

During the conflict with what were called 'Death Walkers', Kordath was paired off with a fellow Krath, a Knight named Nath Voth, who was more or less tasked with keeping him alive. After the cannibals were driven off the planet, this relationship was formalized with Kordath becoming her Apprentice, much to the annoyance of Nath.

Kordath’s main motivators can be difficult to pinpoint, particularly because of his seemingly cowardly (and sometimes actually cowardly) behaviors. He is protective of his family, once having saved his sister at cost to himself, but sees little point in hurting others and will not go out of his way to do so just for the sake of material greed or idealistic causes, such as with campaigns in the Brotherhood. His sense of moral good partnered with his experience growing up roughing it on various streets across the Galaxy lead him to only kill, steal, or, really, act at all, out of necessity, and only honest necessity, not greed. However, he is also compassionate, and has a strong, if skewed, sense of justice, especially for the downtrodden or looked-down-on, and will act on their behalf without personal gain. What little ambition he has, if any, can be thought of as a desire to learn and, more so, a desire to just live his life (and survive long enough to do it).

In short, Kordath is a man (er, Ryn) who appreciates family, necessity, spirit, and the little things in life that he loves.

Writing Kordath

His speech patterns are both erratic and, to many, annoying. Lot's of 'umm' and pauses, and the occasional comment that makes your brain hurt. He is not assertive, not because he doesn't believe in what he's saying, but because the Ryn is so used to not attracting attention. This changes in certain situations, depending on his responsibilities or what he's trying to accomplish. An experienced con-man, Kordath can slip in and out of various speech patterns on command, going from fortune teller to sales man, to crazed homeless person at the drop of a hat.

He is also somewhat of an alcoholic, more likely to be found at the local 'watering hole' then anywhere else. Often times he seeks out Atyiru, one of the few people who shares his passion for the drink, and likely his closest friend within Galeres. They're just friends. Really.

As to being useless in a fight, the Ryn is more likely to fade to the back of an encounter in an attempt to find an opening he can use in a decisive manner. His preferred method is a knife in the back, or the edge of his hand to a throat, the lightsaber being a final resort. Don't give the Ryn a gun. Ever. Nothing good will ever happen. Since his time in Dark Forge, he's learned the joy of explosives, which when coupled with his natural nimbleness and skills in stealth have lead to more then a few amusing moments. For him anyways.

In short, Kordath will avoid confrontation if possible, and if forced to fight, will try and do so from the shadows. If he knows something is going to be unavoidable, he'll strike first if possible. If he thinks it's amusing, he'll take advantage of a situation, but only if he thinks it will get a laugh and not physically harm someone.

And he always, always, pays for his drinks. Seriously.
