Kal di Plagia Vorrac is currently a Sith Warrior of Clan Plagueis and House Satal Keto. A man of manipulation, he has practice in pulling the strings of all around him. While usually preferring to fight from afar and play with lives as if on a dejarik board, his shadowy past as an assassin allows him to fight when he needs to. That said, he grapples with age as he continues his ascension through the Dark Side.

Kal's origin is rather meager and depressing, though it laid the groundwork for his challenging life and his twisted persona. Abandoned by the parents he never knew when he was just a week old, a note told the people his name, Kal, and that he was to be taken care of. He was found in a case for a rifle, stamped with the mark VORRAC INDUSTRIES, INC. The name Vorrac was used as his last name, and it was more than fitting, as his grandfather's name had given rise to the defense contractor that produced both rifle and box.

As such, Kal Vorrac was adopted by a Deathstick dealer's twi'lek slave. The dealer, an Ithorian named Haido Kuzh, let her keep the child because she'd been more than devoted in her duties to him. The boy was raised by a series of uncles and cousins, in reality customers, clients, and lackeys. They took a shine to the little green-eyed boy, whom they found to have a voracious mind. He was taught how to handle a blaster, how to fight, and many languages.

When he was at the age of ten, innacurate by a few months because they called the day he was found his birthday, Haido began to think the boy was becoming a burden. He forced him to work for his meals, his clothing, and his shelter. For a time, he became Haido's drug runner, able to survive on the streets of lower Coruscant because of his blaster, the dirty tricks he knew, and his quick wits and reflexes. Eventually, he robbed a few people and began dealing his own deathsticks, finally getting rid of the rags and meager food Haido "paid" him with. The boy began buying nice clothing and shoes with the money, having learned charisma and manners from dealing with the many women that the Ithorian and his customers associated with.

Soon, though, a few of Haido's customers found that Vorrac had stolen from them, and brought trouble to Haido's doorstep. The Empire was already tough enough on criminals, and Haido had to make a bargain with the vicious trandoshans to slave out his adoptive son, else he would have lost his legs. Kal tried to flee the place, but the reptilian aliens cornered the boy. They didn't expect his aim with a blaster to be so good, though, and he killed them both with a quick-draw of his pistol. Seeing what he'd done and knowing nothing good would come of it, the boy ran away, stowing away on a cargo freighter to find a new home. What he found was just another Hell, one far worse than the last.

The Smuggler's Moon
A startled dockworker was left with nothing but a gasp of surprise and a broken knee the day he found a young Kal Vorrac, twelve years old, scrawny, and dressed in dirty and torn clothing. The young boy gave him no chance to really react, hefting a heavy droid part at his knee and shattering the cap, giving him time to use the one skill he had always been a master of. Kal Vorrac ran like hell.

What he didn't realize at the time was how devilish and dark of a place he'd found, learning the name of the place from an old cripple in an alleyway. Having stolen from a man in a blaster shop at the cripple's request, Kal earned the right to know that he now walked upon the surface of Nar Shaddaa, the Smuggler's Moon. For the first week and a half in this new place, the hotbed of criminals and scum that orbited the world of the Hutts, Kal slept under, inside, and behind whatever would keep him from prying eyes. He obtained food and water by using his small frame and quiet demeanor to steal from, sabotage, and even hurt the many people around. Morals and ethics never came to his head, for he'd never known them; it was just another meal, another drink.

In time he gathered a few nicknames, including a very vulgar Trandoshan word that called him thief in very colorful terms. He was the littlest thief, or the ankle biter. It only took so long of this before different people offered him opportunities. The first was a Sullustan named Gav Sumbul, who offered him the job of fixing broken machinery in exchange for the use of a shower and consistent food. In reality, Gav owed a large debt to some very aggressive Hutts and needed to make money without spending too much. To Kal, however, exploitation and charity rhymed quite well.

Another Father, For a Time
Gav Sambul took Kal in at first out of both pity and dire need, making the money he needed to pay off the Hutts and sheltering the boy at the same time. He was able to use the money to keep his debt paid off, while at the same time buying the boy food and clothing. Kal was able to bathe regularly, wear decent clothing, and eat a good meal every night. By every estimation of his mind, he was in paradise, but the true benefit of this came when Gav took a liking to him. He got to know the young boy, slowly adding the Sullustan dialect to the boy's dialogue while speaking with him otherwise in Huttese, and soon came to regard him as a son.

Sambul taught Kal everything he knew about the machines he fixed, from how to rewire a protocol droid's vocal unit to how to boost the navicomputer from a freighter in under twenty seconds. Kal greedily took in the information, eager to learn anything new, glad to be off of the streets at last. Circuitry and metal became the first toys he'd ever really had, and he played with them wholeheartedly. Sadly, this life was not perfect, and would not last.

Gav Sambul, aside from having a strong sense of empathy for other beings, especially the helpless, was far from an admirable man. He was a rather heavy drinker, a gambling fiend, and was known to be excessively greedy. In working with underworld types, he would rely on his modified 3PX protocol unit, which he'd nicknamed Noisy. The droid, frequently rewired but never memory wiped, had developed an alarming number of personality quirks. Gav claimed to like these, but Kal never could get used to a droid with a personality and the droid itself hated the little boy in secret. It resented Vorrac, feeling he had usurped its place as Gav's favorite. That was when the droid's personality developments and mental modifications came together in a horrible way, and Kal was quick to spot the droid when it was conversing with some underworld types outside the shop. Kal quickly told Gav, who called the droid in to scold it and shut it down as punishment.

What happened next was either the result of far too many modifications and conversations, or of something the thugs had done to the droid. Kal never found out which one was the truth. Noisy went into a screaming rage, using its modified body to beat and bash at the Sullustan. Having been partially modified as a loadlifter and labor droid, the machine was very powerful. Gav was injured badly, and the droid then proceeded to rig the shop's machinery to explode. That was when Kal acted.

Running from his secluded corner with a fusion cutter, Kal jumped on the droid, wrestling with it and cutting at it with the tool. The machine thrashed about, slamming the boy into several machines and sharp objects and hurting the boy. Nevertheless, in his rage at seeing Sambul killed, Kal managed to slice open the droid's head and rip out his memory circuits, destroying the droid's processor in seconds with the fusion cutter. After this he ran to Gav, who was horribly crippled and couldn't free himself from beneath a fallen machine. Hearing more thugs coming to finish the job, Gav ordered Kal to leave, and the boy had no choice but to flee and weep as the shop's machines blew up and the sound of the thugs' rifles as they put an end to his second father figure. It was on this day, limping and wounded from a crazed protocol droid, that Kal's hatred of mechanical beings began.

Mother's Love?
Kal Vorrac had learned much in his time as Gav Sambul's helper and adoptive son, having the skills to not only steal, hurt, and survive on the streets, but also to work. He received many jobs from varied groups, Gav having taught him a better understanding of economics, if still an imperfect one. He was able to find his way into jobs doing repair work, theft, and sabotage on machinery and droids. When it came to machines, the latter was his favorite, but anything that paid was good enough. During this time he managed to live as a squatter in abandoned apartment complexes or concealed spots in alleyways, buying sufficient food and clothing to survive while paying to use public facilities here or there when bathing became an issue. This was also when he really began purchasing weaponry, and learning its specifics.

<tr>

<td bgcolor="#2B2B2B" style="background: #2B2B2B; padding-left:6px; padding-right:6px; border-top: 1px solid #111111; font-size:smaller;">

As he learned how to operate, service, and even disassemble weapons, he learned how to modify them. These modifications served him well, along with the inevitable ability that came with his knowledge. Vorrac managed to make just as much sabotaging weapons shipments and disassembling weaponry for benevolent groups or rivals as he did by buying and selling modified equipment. Still, he was no mastermind and had no real assets, so every day was another day of survival for the young man. He never really managed to gain in any significant way, and his definition of luxury became the equivalent of everyone else's definition for poverty.
Makashi, Dun Moch

Still, between his mechanical work and his assorted jobs for criminals, he managed to catch the eye of yet another parental figure. As he was watched from the shadows, the littlest thief, the tiny saboteur, was being sized up. One day, in the middle of a job from a local Hutt, he was surprised and ambushed by a group that had been expecting him. Vorrac surely would have died, had a Zabrak woman called Vym Khuzad not intervened. A skilled assassin, she adeptly disposed of those who had assaulted the boy by use of infrared goggles, a flash grenade, and skilled pistol usage. Beckoning Kal on when his eyes again worked, she offered him a chance to rise above the street, to never again need to sleep in a gutter. Kal had never known a mother, but having heard about maternal tenderness and love, he had hopes that his life was about to change.

Kal's life in service to Vym Khuzad gave the boy a harsh awakening. For the first time in his life, he was dealing with someone who was truly evil. Vym scarcely had any motives beyond plush living and material possessions, coveting jewelery and expensive clothing. She made herself comfortable in a number of establishments, living in fully amoral glory. Very quickly, she made it clear that luxury was for her and not for Kal, who was merely her pet. He was given three identical black sets of clothing and a bedroll, as well as food and shelter. Vorrac showed an impressive resolve to survive, for he had never known or liked the notion of rich living. To him, the clothing seemed practical and rational. He enjoyed being able to sleep at night without fear of thieves or murderers, without the stench of sweat and garbage or a lack of edible food. It was one facet of his new existence that he accepted wholeheartedly.

The second phase of this service took on a very different form. Vym made sure that the tasteless food that Kal ate was completely nutritional, yet gave him no joy. She punished him at every opportunity and deprived him of any praise. He was taught that any mistake in what he did, be it simple errands or complex tasks, would be rewarded with abuse and pain. The boy was subjected to a grueling physical work-out each day, leaving him aching and silently sighing away groans of pain whether he succeeded or failed. By the end of the first six weeks, Kal was in the best shape of his life. His skin was adorned with the first few real scars of his life. Soon after the physical conditioning became easy and routine for him, Kal was taught stealth and combat tactics. Failures in these fields were rewarded with beatings so harsh that he would be unconscious for days on end. Despite the pain and trauma, Kal took it all in. He absorbed the mistreatment and let the growing hate for Vym fuel him as he went about his tasks, embracing the strength that grew within him. This allowed him to survive the next phase of life for him, in which his life's work would begin to take shape.

Physical Description
Assassin/Sith

Vorrac has black hair, emerald eyes, and skin pale as ice. While not an overbearing man, he is fairly tall at six feet and keeps his medium build in perfect physical condition. His hair is kept so short that he is nearly bald, and his face is kept free of facial hair. His left arm and both legs are prosthetic parts, coated in a black armourweave similar in appearance and texture to skin. Kal always wears his Brotherhood robes, both for effect and to conceal his false body parts.

Personality
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#222222;" style="background: #222222; padding-left:6px; padding-right:6px; border-top: 1px solid #111111; border-right: 1px solid #111111; color: #cccccc; font-size:smaller;"> Position:

<td bgcolor="#2B2B2B" style="background: #2B2B2B; padding-left:6px; padding-right:6px; border-top: 1px solid #111111; font-size:smaller;">

Kal is a warped individual, completely insane by almost all estimates. Only an examination of his life, an understanding of his mind, and a chance to see him in action would explain how one like him manages to exist in society. The few who come near this understanding, as no one fully gets the Sith, describe him as being a different kind of sane, wired differently than those around him in almost every way.
Quaestor, Docent

Having lived a life where strength, skill, and cunning allowed him to survive, Kal believes in being the best. Only by being strong has he ever managed to ascend to greater stations and a better life. This has allowed him to grow up with a moral code that vindicates him usurping, manipulating, killing, and dominating all those around him. Similarly, this wildly backward moral code looks down upon mercy, kindness, and benevolence, as these apparent weaknesses have led him and those around him to nothing but pain and suffering. Literally, his moral code seems to match the Sith doctrine in every way.

Kal's lifestyle has unfortunately rendered him extremely paranoid, capable of thought in many directions and compelled to think in the worst possible ways. Everywhere he suspects a trap, or a betrayal. While this attitude has saved his life on thousands of occasions, it also robs him of the potential to enjoy life on any level. The only pleasure he finds is in the pursuit of power and strength, a momentary pleasure that must continually be sated. He cannot enjoy the fruits of his labor, for luxury is weakness in his mind and friendship, trust, and love are all pathways to a pathetic death.
</td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td bgcolor="#222222;" style="background: #222222; padding-left:6px; padding-right:6px; border-top: 1px solid #111111; border-right: 1px solid #111111; color: #cccccc; font-size:smaller;"> Era(s):

<td bgcolor="#2B2B2B" style="background: #2B2B2B; padding-left:6px; padding-right:6px; border-top: 1px solid #111111; font-size:smaller;">

Kal is also possessed of a great deal of insecurity, born both of his paranoia and the treatment he has received from nearly every parental or other family figure he's ever had. Having been exploited, abused, and mistreated by every family figure he's ever had, right down to the death of his last parental figure at his own hands, he has learned that reliance on anyone but himself is foolish. He also believes that becoming weak will spell his return to torture and possibly his complete domination or annihilation, and so he emptily pursues power simply because he believes any other path to be foolish. Were he not so twisted and evil, his personality would likely make many weep for him.

Teacher
Kal seems possessed of an odd penchant to identify with certain individuals and train them, either in his ways or in ways that suit his needs. Through this he has taught Vivackus Kavon, his most successful Apprentice, to become a skillful political player. He has also shaped the haunted Mograine into a killing machine. However, his interest seems fixated on his newest student, a Protector by the name of Necal. Only time will tell how this will turn out.

Jev was conceived during an affair of Karina while her husband, a wealthy Bakuran merchant named Dobin Brokkol, had been away on Rodia signing a business deal. Dobin was away during Jev's birth, and would be for the first two weeks of his life.

Unfortunately for Karina, Jev looked nothing like his supposed father. He had his biological father's oddly pale skin and striking emerald eyes, inheriting jet-black hair and a sharpness to his features from his mother. Karina immediately had Jev hidden away from her security staff, sabotaging the medical droids that had presided over his birth to appear as if they'd broken down. Eventually, she realized the futility of her actions and ran away with the child.

Sneaking into her personal speeder and flying some miles away to stash him in the lower reaches of Coruscant, she was forced to kill a few of her security personnel who thought she'd been kidnapped. She left Jev there, along with a note renaming him as Kal Vorrac for any who would find him. He was discovered by a twi'lek prostitute named Sali Beel and adopted as her son.

<dd>— Kal Vorrac, age five.

</dl>While some children had toys, Kal was left with only his adoptive mother for entertainment. Soon after he began speaking he was able to use words of Huttese, Twi'leki, and Basic, the three languages most often used by Sali's clientelle. His use of Huttese was complete at the age of three, while four and five saw fluency in the other two tongues. In these years, Kal showed the first indications of his brilliant mind, learning to read from holonet displays.

Kal was also exposed to very harsh facets of the world. Sali was not always able to ensure privacy, showing Kal a few instances of rough treatment from clients. Later, he found the bruises and cuts left over from these encounters would be his first source of rage. Some clients would abuse him when he came too close, while others took an odd fondness of the boy, teaching him fighting techniques, stashing secrets, and other tools of their various trades.

Sali Beel was also a picture of addiction for Kal, bringing him to dislike drugs of all forms and giving him a special hatred for Deathsticks. At one point she incurred enough debt with her dealer, the ithorian Haido Kuzh, to put her life at risk and the life of her son. When she spoke to Haido, she offered the boy into servitude in exchange for her own survival. Haido agreed, but when the enforcers came to take Kal they left her with disfiguring scars along both cheeks.

He cleaned up after the ithorian and ran his messages around, growing attached to the man in spite of everything. Haido would reward him for stealing from competitors and innocents alike, instilling a strong drive to take from others. Even so, Haido made sure that Kal respected business and the nature of a deal. He couldn't afford for the boy to undermine him.

Over the next six years, Kal would learn more languages from those Haido did business with and would learn teachings of the fighting style Dulon from a few of those that liked him. Over time he became quite capable in the art, which was useful for the boy's small size. The boy was nearly ambidextrous from birth, and would come to train both of his hands to function equally. A duros named Weelin Tham was especially fond of the boy; he taught Kal how to conceal a hold-out blaster, and how to draw it quickly.

These skills would only serve him so well, however. As he grew up, Haido developed an attachment to the boy. He constantly tested him, encouraging him to steal from bigger and better targets, getting rich and growing proud of the boy. This ambition would be Vorrac's undoing; against Haido's instructions, he stole from a group of Trandoshan slavers. Though they never caught Kal in the act, they blamed Haido as a way to both expand their business and make up for their losses. The ithorian had no choice, offering them Kal's life to keep himself alive. Kal discovered this, hiding away before they could take him and stowing on a freighter bound for Nar Shaddaa.

He truly fears only complete helplessness. This fear is so prevalent that he will literally force himself through the gauntlet as his legs give out. Character History

Early Years(Age 1-12)

Born and Betrayed

"Tyber, forgive me."
— Karina Brokkol's final words before leaving Jev.

Kal Vorrac was born as Jev Brokkol on Coruscant in 15 BBY, a name he didn't keep for very long. He was the son of Karina Brokkol and her childhood friend Tyber Vorrac. Jev was conceived during an affair of Karina while her husband, a wealthy Bakuran merchant named Dobin Brokkol, had been away on Rodia signing a business deal. Unfortunately for Karina, Jev looked nothing like his supposed father.

Three tongues

"Mommy, when will I grow lekku?"
— Kal Vorrac, age five.

While some children had toys, Kal was left with only his adoptive mother for entertainment.

Raised by Thieves

"Don't tuck it too far back in the sleeve. You need it to slide easily."
— Weelin Tham, on hold-out pistols.

Life with Haido quickly became a gauntlet for young Kal. Schooled to be a thief and, in time, an enforcer, he was punished for crying and throwing tantrums.
