Character History
- "I once met a Yuuzhan Vong so ugly that I had no choice but to kill it."
- ―Jem to an assistant
Early Life
Jem Hewitt was born in Estle City, the second child of two, with one older sister. Jem’s father had been a native Selenian, before Clan Arcona came to the planet when Jem was a teenager. His father had no interest in the military, thinking that the Consul was just a tyrant come to enslave the Selenians. Jem, however, became obsessed with it.
In 22 ABY, at 21 years of age, Jem entered an officer’s academy. It took him five years to graduate, but he eventually did. The military was still his one true love, and he was sent to the 2nd Heavy Infantry Brigade to serve as an assistant. He was an assistant until 28 ABY.
Nomadic Days
Jem was at the Academy when the Yuuzhan Vong invaded, and promoted to assistant during the actual fighting. He served as assistant for one year while the fleet was traveling the stars, until the former Division Commander committed suicide. Jem had proven himself early in the Incursion, and was the natural choice to become the new Division Commander.
Division Commander
As Division Commander, Jem Hewitt made a few notable changes. He tried to implement a stronger tactical plan with the heavy infantry brigade providing a more central role, with the other infantry units providing support roles, which was not how it had been before. He drilled his soldiers constantly in preparation for the day they would descend from their ships and return home.
Jem married the Captain of the AGV Valour's Fall in the Arcona Expeditionary Force, Alexandra Yamato in 27 ABY. Together the two have a son, born in 29 ABY, named Vendt Hewitt.
Personality
Jem was an introverted commander, brilliant in his own right but often very inwardly drawn. He was friendly and sociable when with his men, but spent a lot of his time cooped up in his quarters. He was an honest man, and followed a set of moral values and beliefs that guided his military life.
