Introduction
Lor Zatean is a small island resort in the Menaris Ocean near Aeotheran's Equator, a thousand miles south of Seng Karash. This dormant volcanic island was colonised in 24 ABY in a joint venture between the Dlarit Corporation and Dystopian Leisure and rapidly became popular with personnel of both Dlarit Mining and the Dlarit Security force, due to its many entertainment and relaxation facilities, and its all year round hot and sunny weather. It is a pleasant island, with both natural black sand and artificially constructed white sand beaches, volcanic formations, exotic plant life, and many imported species of none threatening animal and birdlife.
In April 34 ABY the Quaestor of House Shar Dakhan, Darkblade, and the Orian Assembly agreed to shut down Lor Zatean and leave the island uninhabited until further notice. Currently the island appears like a ghost town, attracting criminal organizations for its lack of people and patrolling, pristine conditions to conduct illegal operations.
Management
Though the resort was owned and policed by Dlarit Corporation when it was still in power, it has employed Dystopian Leisure as a management organization, who under the leadership of Managing Director Malisane de Ath has supervised both the design and construction of the pre fabricated hotels, bars, clubs and shops, as well as the monorail system and shuttle port, and manages the above for Dlarit in return for a management fee and percentage of the profits. Dystopian Leisure employs the staff for the facilities, mostly made up of both refugees and the older teenage children of Dlarit employees, on three month short term contracts financed by the management fee, and the number of employees fluctuates seasonally depending on the level of business.
Among the entertainment facilities offered are marine tours of the depths of the coast around the island, sports such as surfing and paragliding, shuttle tours over the volcanic center of the island, and fishing trips on the oceans surface, depending on the tastes and funds of the visitor.
Areas of Interest
Refarice
Refarice is the quieter resort on the north side of the island, mainly for older guests and families, with the hotels bars and restaurants being more family orientated. This is also the main shopping area of the island, with food markets, clothing boutiques, and soulvenir shops.
In an attempt to make this area more attractive all buildings are a white and restricted to two levels.
A popular feature of Refarice are the nearby tropical gardens, a wildlife zone inhabited by the more placid wildlife.
Yamfianta
The south side of the island on the other hand is the nosier side, with the more active clubs, nightlife and is more popular with young adults and military personnel.
The buildings here are larger, including several skyscraper hotels and large club venues, though nothing on the scale of Dystopia.
The monorail runs around the outside of the island connecting the two areas and the shuttle port on the west side of the island.
The Desert
The east side of the island is taken up by a vast volcanic desert area, whose dunes are popular for bantha and dune buggy rides as well as treks on foot for the more adventurous traveler.
Dlarit Beach
The northwest side of the island is a private residential area where senior directors and military personnel of the Orian Authority have private villas or apartments. A selection of attractive cliff top and beachfront properties have been provided for this purpose and several members of Clan Naga Sadow have chosen to have bespoke individual properties build, including Malisane’s own large marble villa just off the beach.
Trivia
Unlike Seng Karash and Kar Alabrek the island is too geographically unstable to host a hyproponic facility and food and drink is shuttled in from Seng Karash. Aside from a few private vessels of senior Orian Assembly employees, spacecraft are forbidden to land on or fly over the islands airspace, in order to police arrivals and departures and also to avoid noise pollution. The Orian Authority keeps a fighter squadron on the island and unauthorized craft are intercepted and politely turned away.
