Jaron Kai was a Jedi Hunter who resided in House Cestus of Clan Tarentum. A veteran of the Emperor's Hammer, she disappeared from both the Brotherhood and the Hammer during the Exodus. Currently, she has gone missing once more, and has been marked a Rogue in the archives.
Character History
Before the Dark Side
One year before the Battle of Yavin, Jaron was born on Coruscant. Her father ran a small shipping business that occasionally took him off-planet. Obviously, Jaron grew up during a time of great turmoil, but - whether through luck or a consistent need for shipping vessels - her family remained relatively unscathed by the Galactic Civil War. There were some close calls, but her father counseled her and her two older brothers to remain neutral whenever possible and in all other cases fall in with the side most likely to pay and protect an individual.
This policy served the Kai family well until Jaron's sixteenth birthday, when her mother died and Jaron realized just how far her mother's influence had gone to holding the family together. Her brothers took advantage of her father's weakness and moved quickly to take the business away from him. When her father finally realized that they were not in fact just giving him "time off to recover" but attempting to push him completely out of the picture, the conflict came to a head. Her father died two weeks later. His will specified that the if the siblings could not agree to share it, the company and its assets should be split in thirds. Jaron couldn't prove it, but she knew her brothers were responsible for her father's death. She acted out impulsively, destroying one third of the company assets less one ship, a heavily modified freighter she had customized with her father and left the core planets. Jaron was all ambition and anger, she did not set out to find the Empire, but it eventually found her.
Imperial Remnant Pilot
Jaron spent a time as a pilot in the Imperial Remnant known as the Emperor's Hammer. There, she rose quickly through the ranks, earning a position as a flight leader on one of the finest Star Destroyers in the fleet. It was soon after taking command of her flight that a pilot from the Dark Jedi Brotherhood identified her potential and invited her to the Shadow Academy to be tested.
Becoming a Dark Jedi
Jaron served with distinction in Caliburnus of Clan Scholae Palatinae as a Sith pilot, eventually rising to hold the position of Aedile shortly before the Exodus. She also rose in the ranks in the Dark Brotherhood's Imperial Navy Task Force. The Exodus was as painful for Jaron as anyone, as she was forced to choose between her loyalty to the Imperial Remnant and its cause and the source of her true power, the Dark Brotherhood. Rather than make the choice, she fled. She was not missed in the chaos of the Exodus, but perhaps each side had assumed she had chosen to stay with the other and wrote her off their rolls. For whatever the reason, Jaron was never pursued in spite of having gone AWOL.
Dark Years
Literally, Jaron has no recollection of the ten years she spent after leaving during the Exodus.
Return to Darkness
Something called Jaron back to the Brotherhood late in the year 29 ABY. She found there the Dark Brotherhood and reawoke to a collection of hazy memories of her achievements and service nearly ten years ago. She was surprised to find that she remembered wielding the power of the Dark Side. She could still feel it, but could not call upon it as she once had. She enlisted at the Shadow Academy and was accepted back into the Brotherhood at the rank of Apprentice, determined to regain her old power. She was transferred to Clan Tarentum, where she became a member of House Cestus.
Jaron's history is somewhat sketchy at this time. It is possible that a head injury or some form of trauma is responsible for her lapse of memory.
Second Disappearance
Jaron once again rose quickly in rank, becoming Protector just in time for a mission on Samur to find shards of an artifact called the Crystal of Tears. It was during the mission that she was picked by House Cestus's Aedile, Ronovi Tavisaen Tarentae, to become the Epicanthix's first apprentice. She worked diligently under the supervision of her new master, becoming a Jedi Hunter in the months before the Ninth Great Jedi War. Along with her master and other members of her house, jaron was deployed to Antei to fight the Jedi who now occupied the planet.
After receiving a serious head injury during a skirmish with the Jedi on Adas, Jaron was sent back to Tarentum's set-up base to recuperate. However, by the time the war was over, the Hunter was nowhere to be found. Whether she had wandered off, was captured and converted, or simply died from the injury, no one really knows. Until she proves otherwise, Jaron Kai is presumed dead.
