The Wards of Clan Scholae Palatinae form a group of members with specialties in a specific field. Established by Braecen Kaeth, the primary functions of the Wards are to work alongside the Clan Summit to assist Clan Scholae Palatinae in their mission of advanced mentorship. The system of Wards was created to replace the Consul's Coven.
Fictional Background
The origin of the Wards pre-date Eighth Great Jedi War. The plan was to assign trusted advisors to oversee the security and prosperity of Judecca, assigning each one to a compass point. Thus Guardians, or overseers, were appointed to the far North, South, East and West.
However, as the War within the Antei System went awry, the majority of the Cocytus System was captured and over-run by the Yuuzhan Vong - including Judecca. The decision to empower these individuals during a time of war seemed impractical, leading to a delay in orders. While the Reclamation of Judecca was brutal, even savage, upon the Royal Clan, the first of the Wards were appointed for their valor and service unto the Clan: Cethgus (North), Xen'Mordin Vismorsus (East), Niemand "Duda" Machweg (West) and Impetus M'Nar (South). Despite the fact that Niemand was killed in the Great Jedi War, the Master re-appeared as a Force Apparition to fulfill his duty as Ward of the West - instilling his wisdom until such a time the spirit could find a new, suitable host.
Reclamation was far more successful than the War, and Judecca was reclaimed. However, two of the positions were soon vacated for various reasons. With Ward of the East Xen'Mordin Vismorsus leaving Scholae Palatinae to study abroad, a replacement was swiftly appointed in the form of the tenacious, skillful fighter, Kat Pridemore. Released from service, so that he may further serve the will of House Caliburnus, Cethgus stepped down from his position as a Ward. Thus, creating a vacuum to be filled.
In addition, prospective Ward of the South Impetus M'Nar suffered lethal injuries towards the closing of the war. Unable to perform her basic duties - given that she could neither walk or remain conscious in this time a temporary assistant was appointed in the form of Xathia dan Locut'Hal to facilitate the inabilities of the current Ward.
From then on, the Wards vowed to oversee the safety and prosperity of their given appointments upon Judecca's surface.
The Priestess/Priest of Lore
Unfortunately, while this plan worked in theory, in practice things didn't turn out so well. The Ward of the North was for a long time left unfilled, and the Wards of the East and West were rotating far too often for the positions to have any effectiveness within the clan. The only one of the four Wards that remained stable was Impetus as Ward of the South, and Consul Phoenix thought it a little pointless to keep four positions open if only one was functional.
The position of Ward of the West, East and North were entirely dissolved, and Impetus' position of Ward of the South was transformed into one that fit her speciality, a keeper of the clan's lore and history. In 29 ABY, Impetus was named Scholae Palatinae's first Priestess of Lore. After Impetus' retirement and transfer to Clan Plagueis, Kalak Ragnose was appointed Priest of Lore.
