The Chosen are a unit of heavy infantry Wookiee Berserkers. They are part of the 1st AAC "Kota's Fist", a branch of the Kotahitanga-Unity Defense Force in House Odan-Urr.
History
Origins
In the trenches
The Chosen started out as a group of Wookiee slaves taken prisoner many decades ago by Imperial forces as slave labor for the original Death Star. An Imperial officer found a way to "depreciate" the expense of the slave labor force and sold them off to the highest bidder. For this group, it was a bidding war between various Hutt cartels and some Trandoshan slavers, but one of the cartels won out.
This particular group of Trandoshans were particularly miffed, being as their purchasing agent was permanently silenced by the cartel to prevent a counter-bid to come in, so they decided to raid the transport convoy that carried the slaves and take them by force.
Quite unexpectedly, Odan-Urr starfighter forces were in the midst of coming back from an uneventful, but successful, recon run of the Judecca system, home of (then) House Scholae Palatinae, one of the House's most hated of enemies. The starfighters had dropped out of hyperspace to fine tune their hyperspace jumps when they blundered into the running battle.
The Wookiee prisoners had managed to take advantage of the confusion and hijacked the transport ship, but it was heavily damaged and was being hotly pursued by both cartel and Trandoshan forces, each battling each other in the process. The Wookiees, noting the arrival of the X-Wings, openly broadcast their situation, but were cut short by electronic countermeasures by cartel forces. There was no thought of it by the starfighter forces. They locked S-foils into attack position, and engaged. Within a few minutes, it was all over. The Odan-Urr squadron commander offered sanctuary on New Tython, which they gratefully accepted.
Arriving in-system, the squadron leader advised the House leadership of the situation, and they immediately agreed to provide aid, and if they choose to see fit, work as well, offering to pay fair wages and good housing. It was all too much for the newly freed Wookiees, and they all individually and as a group pledged a life debt to Odan-Urr. Their leader, Liika, stepped forward and advised the leadership that they had combat skills acquired during their service in the Clone Wars, as well as the subsequent war for liberation against the Empire.
The House leadership instantly grasped the possibilities and noted their possible positive additions to their combat arms, immediately agreed, on the condition that they rest and train up first to standards, then get to know the planet. They would be well provided for as well, and given their choice of quarters. Their positive treatment since have lead to the Wookiees naming themselves "The Chosen of Bacca", referencing their good fortune as being favored by their great historical figure. Considering that the word 'bacca' can mean "ally" or "friend" in Shyriiwook, it is particularly apt regarding their new friends in the House. The name is usually shortened to "The Chosen" under all but the most official and important occasions. However, most soldiers in the K.U.D.F. call them Zerkers.
Culture
Still reeling from their time as slaves, The Chosen were reluctant to trust others other than their small group and the direct House members of Odan-Urr. Slowly but surely, they have been acclimating themselves to the planet and the Tribes, and their skill with technology and crafting have come in handy to generate surplus income for themselves when not assigned tasks by the House.
The Chosen aggressively patrol the area in and around the system, and are particularly aggressive against pirates, Imperials, and slavers. They often capture such beings and bring them in for justice, taking pride in righting wrongs. They've occasionally run into slaves, which they immediately free and, on behalf of the House, offer them similar offers that they had received, gratefully accepted by many.
In other respects, they function as a Wookiee tribe, if small by Wookiee standards. Recently they're taking steps to increase their numbers by marrying amongst each other and giving birth to the next generation of The Chosen.
Organization
The Chosen are organized into squads of four, in turn assigned to platoons of four squads, of which are assigned to a company of three platoons for a total of 48 shock troopers per company. All three companies, plus their commanding officer and deputy, are organized into a heavy shock infantry battalion.
Liika

- Biography:
The Chosen's leader by consensus is Liika, the oldest Wookiee warrior amongst their group. His vast experience has been key in getting the less-experienced warriors up to speed. Using ancient Wookiee warrior traditions, he has brought the company to respect the ancient traditions and also become proficient in modern weaponry and tactics.
Liika's age is unknown, although it was clear that he was already a seasoned warrior by the time the Confederacy of Independent Systems attempted to annex Kashyyyk. He does not go into detail concerning his previous experiences to non-Wookiees, however, he has proven to be an exceptional leader and commander, with a good tactical mind, willing and able to adapt to the flow of battle.
He has black fur, already showing gray strands of hair. In battle he wears his combat harness with all of his weapons attached.
He carries himself with pride, especially in front of his enemy. He has led his tribe for years and doesn't show interest in backing down. He has been scarred many times and he wears his wounds as a veteran warrior should.
Insignia
The Chosen never had an official tribe insignia by which others could identify them, and they never needed one. However after the attack on Menat Ombo, when Cy Thuron took power, the Wookiees of Liika's tribe fought for the Harakoans, saving many of them and leading them to the spaceport for evacuation.
On Haven, when the K.U.D.F. was reorganized before the inevitable battle to liberate New Tython, the Harakoans saved by Liika and his Wookies made and gave them a ceremonial Tiki statuette. Depicting a demonic being from Harakoan folklore, very similar to the fierce Wookie warriors, the figurehead became the official Chosen insignia.
