The Saarai Estate is the name for the personal dacha and surrounding property of Kir Katarn. Located on the planet Karufr, the property has been a personal retreat for the Brotherhood leader since he commissioned it to be built in 20 ABY.

Establishment

Upon the Brotherhood's move to the Antei system in 19 ABY, Clan Taldryan took control of the Kr'Tal System, including the planet Karufr. Taldryan Consul Kir Katarn choose Karufr to be the location of the new Clan Headquarters, and numerous construction projects were put into motion. This was a busy year for the clan, as consolidation of power was crucial to their future success.

A year after the move, Kir scouted a large unoccupied area on near Karufr Calidomar, the city where the new Headquartersnow stood nearly completed. The area was not accessible from any roads, and was covered mostly in grasslands and forest, with a large cliff and waterfall defining the northern edge. Kir decided this would be the location of his private dacha, and commissioned several local architects to begin designs. At the same time another company began constructing various necessities such as a landing pad, small hangar bay, and security fencing along the perimeter. All construction on the property was completed within two years.

Grounds

The vast majority of the 10,000 acre estate was not built upon, as Kir wanted to be surrounded by nature when he was at his dacha, to act as a buffer between him and the outside galaxy. However the property does contain many buildings for both residence, maintenance, access, and security.

Beginning with the perimeter - the entire property is surrounded with a complex network of unmanned defenses. There are basic sensors and vids which provide information to the security building, along with hidden autoturrets and manned patrols. The security building houses a small garrison force provided by Clan Taldryan, along with vehicles, weapons, and barracks. Nearby is the main landing pad, where incoming transports land before entering the underground hangar bay. The bay is large enough to hold several large personnel transports as well as four small fighters and many speeders. There is also a much smaller secondary hangar hidden in the surrounding forest. The hangar area also contains the primary service building, which houses the on-site mechanics and other personnel who maintain the property and buildings. The service building backs up to the primary and backup power generators for the estate.

Design Plans

Approximately one kilometer away from the landing pad is the entrance to Kir's dacha. The majority of Kir's life has been lived from spartan soldier's quarters, and while the dacha is large, it continues this tradition. There are few decorative touches, and the entire house was clearly built to be as functional as possible. The two-story house contains five bedrooms, a large library/office, a kitchen, living area, and bathrooms. The basement contains several training rooms with a great deal of combat equipment, in addition to soundproof meditation chamber, and an underground transport system to be used in emergencies. There is also an attached garage with various speeders used to traverse the property.

Usage

During Kir's time as Taldryan Consul, visits to the Saarai estate were rare. Clan business kept him extremely busy, but he did occasionally use the property to keep private meetings away from the prying eyes in Karufr Calidomar. Kir's appointment to Deputy Grand Master came with a permanent move to the governing seat on Antei, and his visits to the estate became even less frequent.

Upon his resignation from Deputy and completion of period of travel, Kir took up permanent residence at his estate for the first time. The isolation the property afforded Kir was crucial, as he used the time to train and return to his Obelisk core, clearing his mind of the bureaucracy he had previously dealt with. He strengthened his connection to the force and made closer study of the various texts and lore available to him as an elder. After his self-imposed exile ended, Kir's reemergence into public life often brought leaders from Taldryan and the Brotherhood as a whole to Saarai.

In 26 ABY, Kir was appointed Justicar of the Chamber of Justice by Grand Master Jac Cotelin. This entailed another permanent move to Antei, although Kir does try to return to his estate whenever he feels weakness in his connection to the force. When he eventually retires from leadership, he plans to live out his days here.

Name

Dark Hall Holocron

Kir decided to name his estate Saarai after a word he discovered in the Dark Hall. Written in the ancient Sith language, Saarai means "truth". The word was found in conjunction with the fallen Jedi Nikkos Tyris, whose followers became known as the Jensaarai - Kir was intrigued by their history, and felt "Saarai" to be an appropriate name for his isolated estate.
