Severina (originally known as Selina) was the apprentice and lover of Darth Severak, the original leader of the True Brotherhood.

Biography

Meeting Severak

Selina Kortis was born in 37 BBY to a Corelian Merchant and his wife. Her father was a smuggler for hire who made a modest living transporting glitterstim from such places as Kessel to whoever would give him a decent price for it, her mother serving as co-pilot. Selina grew up on board the freighter and became a pretty and quick witted young woman with a charming if slightly cold personality.

In 19 BBY directly following the Clone wars her parents were hired by a mysterious stranger to transport him and his possessions from Coruscant to an uncharted world in the unknown regions. The stranger offered a high price for a quick delivery and no questions asked and Selina’s father quickly agreed.

During the journey the stranger became interested in the eighteen year old Selina and also discovered to his delight that she had a strong untapped presence in the force, stronger than even himself. They spoke long into the night, and Selina was drawn to the sense of power the stranger gave off. On the final night before they arrived unknown to her parents they became lovers. The following day due to a suspicious drive failure the freighter crash landed on their destination planet, her parents dying, Selina grievously wounded and the stranger apparently unhurt. The stranger took Selina to a nearby Keep and nursed her back to health, mysteriously healing her injuries.

Apprentice and Lover

During her initial grief over the loss of her parents, she was comforted by the stranger who revealed himself to be Severak, who claimed to be a Jedi Master who had made his home here to escape the purge of his fellows carried out by the Chancellor of the Republic and his apprentice. In the initial few years after he helped her discover her own force powers, as well as strengthening their relationship. Finally he revealed to her the mysteries of the Sith and took her as his apprentice. He told her that her old life was dead, and she would thereafter be known as Severina, a name similar to his own. He explained to her that with her help they would overthrow Palpatine and rule the galaxy together. Seduced by this she became a zealous addition to his plans. With the freighter repaired they ventured out into the galaxy and Severak took a second apprentice, a Zabrak named Tslotha Garnath. Tslotha was talented and learned quickly, but never achieved the power Severina had or the closeness between her and their Master.

Over the next few years as they became stronger, Severina and Tslotha both argued that the time had come to attack and neutralise Palpatine and Vader, in a lightning strike that would see them both slain and Severak to take over in the confusion. However Severak himself overruled them, saying that their enemies were too powerful, and that the Imperial fleet and the Senate would not support them. Severina grew impatient with her lover who had taken to his studies in an attempt to find a way of gaining immense power. She advised taking on more students to create a powerful group of Sith. Severak disagreed, now obsessed with a ritual he had found that he believed would make him supreme.

In 10 BBY, nine years after she had met Severak and four after Tslotha had joined them, Severak announced that he was ready to carry out his ritual, which required the sacrifice of his son. Severina was by now barren, a result of her studies of the Sith and her original injuries, and to her disgust Severak abducted a young woman to Kangaras and impregnated her, sending Tslotha nine months later to kidnap a medic to perform the delivery. This did not go well as expected when the medic took the child and fled to Coruscant. Severina pursued the medic but was unable to find the child.

The True Brotherhood

During the following years Severina became increasingly frustrated with Severak, who had become melancholy and had blamed her and Tslotha for the child’s escape. As once more he withdrew into his studies over the next few decades she traveled the galaxy herself, watching the final years of the Empire, and the birth of both the Republic and the New Jedi Order. Severina herself became increasingly powerful, until arguably her strength eclipsed Severak’s own, and like he had she used secrets he had gained to preserve her youth, still looking eighteen as her fiftieth year approached and beyond. She was still in love with Severak but still dreamed of creating an order of Sith to follow them.

In was in 20 ABY that she began to look for force potentials to join them, collecting several students and taking them back to Kangaras to learn under herself and Tslotha. It was on one of these trips that in an attempt to recruit a young man on Naboo she met another force user, apparently on the same mission. Severina quickly overcame the enemy and interrogated him under torture. What he revealed before his death was startling, unknown to either the Republic or the Jedi a powerful group of Sith was growing on and around Antei, a system not far from Kangaras.

Severina followed the directions given to Antei, infiltrating and studying this new Brotherhood. She immediately discounted the notion of joining it, but instead returned to Kangaras and planted the notion in Severak’s head that they could create a similar Brotherhood, with the apprentices they had already found and disaffected Sith who had left the Dark Brotherhood. The True Brotherhood was born. Their members steadily grew, attracting many Journeymen and even several Equites to swell their numbers, setting up a second stronghold on Mustafar. They created a strong body Severak and Severina knew however that under their current methods they would never match the Dark Brotherhoods power and sooner or later if the Elders on Antei discovered them they would loose in a direct confrontation.

Infiltrating Clan Naga Sadow

Following further studies of the Dark Brotherhood in 24 ABY, Severina persuaded Severak that the best way of proceeding was to try and bring an entire Clan over to the True Brotherhood, and after some research selected Clan Naga Sadow as a stable clan with a strong inner loyalty to their own figurehead leader rather than Antei. She infiltrated the Clan as a journeyman, careful to conceal her power which matched their own Elders, and became the apprentice of the Clan Envoy, Dark Jedi Knight Malisane de Ath. She manipulated the memories of Malisane and others to believe she had been in the Clan since Initiate, and began to prepare. She selected one of the True Brotherhoods most promising new members, an Equite by the name of Melak, to assist her and also join Clan Naga Sadow.

This proved to be a fatal mistake. Melak was less subtle about concealing his power and was uncovered as a spy. Severina was powerless to act as Melak was interrogated and revealed the existence of Severak and the True Brotherhood on Kangaras. When a force was dispatched aboard the FRG Foresight to eliminate the Severak she joined it, hoping to sabotage and destroy it before they reached Kangaras. Though still exerting her influence over the Clan members, Pro Consul Muz Ashen Keibatsu saw through the disguise and began to have suspicions. Following her force lightning attack on Quaestor Mononoke Keibatsu, Severina was confronted by the Clan Members. She took Malisane as a hostage and fought her assailants to a stand still. However her control over Malisane’s mind slipped and he stuck a knife in her. Grievously wounded she was quickly slain. The Clan members went on to destroy the True Brotherhood forces on Kangaras.

Death?

Though Severina died on the Foresight, she has been seen several times since by Malisane, appearing as an apparent powerless force ghost. However Malisane has reported she had a strong presence still in the Dark Side that is far beyond the level a force ghost would usually have. This has been dismissed by most of his fellow Clan Members as delusion and paranoia and Severina is believed to be gone forever. He has not seen her spirit again for well over a year and now also believes she has gone.

The Invasion of Orian

The spirit of Severina returned in 27 ABY during the Invasion of Orian allied with Anaxela the new True Brotherhood leader, and though holding a strong contempt for the woman she commonly referred to as "The witch" provided much of the information needed, including the codes to bypass the security of the Marakith skyhook over Seng Karash

Her motives became murky however when she revealed to Malisane de Ath that she cared nothing for the Orian system and her main motive was regaining a physical body and Anaxela's death.

Whether Severina achieved this is unknown. A deal with Malisane to provided her with a cloned body in return for a promise to leave the system and provide information on Severak's location. However at the end of the fighting Severina followed the wounded Anaxela to Kangaras and was last seen by Malisane in combat with the witch. Malisane is unable to recount what happened in the fight due to being knocked unconscious at its beginning.

Therefore whether she now lives again, still remains a spirit or has been destroyed altogether is unknown.

Final Death

Severina appears to have broken her promise. She was discovered to be living in Seng Karash under the guise of restaurant owner and city socialite Meria Vanise. She has been dating and manipulating Sith Battlelord Agrist for currently unknown purposes. Though the former mercenary was unaware of her identity the distance between them has freed him of her influence and through a gradual series of flashbacks and eventually realisaton Agrist became aware and disgusted of her actions.

Several months after their return to Orian following the recapture of Antei, Agrist and Malisane took advantage of a Yuuzhan Vong attack on the Orian system to assault Vanise Tower and kill her. Though initially gaining the upper hand over Severina they were beaten back by a mysterious zabrak who both recognized, and Agrist was greviously wounded. Facing death Malisane promised to trade information for their lives and agreed to meet Severina in the Dystopia nightclub's basement. When Severina and her bodyguard arrived there they and Malisane were blown up by a bomb Malisane had concealed in the live head of vong warrior Talorthane Zemar, collapsing the entire nightclub on top of them. Severina had no chance to escape or transfer her spirit and is almost certainly finally dead.
