Your avatar - the round image that appears at the top of your dossier - offers a concise visual representation of your character’s likeness. The logo of your core unit will appear by default until a custom image has been uploaded.
Custom Avatars
Upon reaching the rank of JM2, you earn the ability to submit custom avatars to the Herald for approval. These avatars may be applied to your dossier as well as your individual alt/npc character sheets. This avatar must adhere to the Avatar requirements and restrictions listed below. This includes image ownership rights, quality, size, and more.
Requirements and Restrictions
To be approved, your avatar image must meet all of the following requirements. These requirements exist to protect the Brotherhood from legal ramifications and ensure that an acceptable level of visual presentability is maintained across the Brotherhood’s website and member dossiers.
Technical
- Your avatar must be 100x100 pixels
- Avatars must be submitted through the “Avatar Change Request” form in your administration panel.
- If you are not the creator of the image, you must have expressed or implied permission from the artist to use the image as your avatar. The name of the artist must be provided in the form’s text field.
- If you are the original creator, then simply state yourself as the source in the form’s text field.
- If the avatar was generated by AI, state the source as AI and give the name of the AI tool used in the form’s text field.
- You must also click the box verbalizing understanding of the Small Print before submission.
Composition
- The character’s head should occupy a significant portion of the image. Depending on physical proportions, a good cut-off point will generally fall around the collar and shoulders.
- The character in the image should be in color. Grayscale or monochrome images will be remanded. An exception will be made for characters that are monochromatic by design. In this case, use the "Additional Remarks" field to notify the Herald Staff.
- Your avatar must not be a visual clone of a copy-written character. e.g. one cannot use a picture of Han Solo, Geralt the Witcher, Sephiroth, etc. If an existing character, actor, or actress serves as the basis/inspiration for your character, your avatar should contain sufficiently unique features as to be distinguishable from the original. Features such as horns, scars, make-up, different hairstyles, and more may help in this situation. The Herald staff reserves the right to judge whether the differences are sufficient.
- The avatar should display either your character’s face or their trademark helmet. While we urge members to favor their character’s face, we allow unique helmets for characters that would not otherwise show their face, such as Mandalorians who adhere to strict doctrines (e.g. Children of the Watch).
Quality
- Your avatar must be a reasonable attempt at your character’s likeness. Professional-level artwork is not required, but rough sketches, stick figures, or images otherwise deemed subpar in quality will be remanded.
- Images that are pixelated, deformed (squeezed or stretched), or showing signs of compression such as color artifacts will be remanded.
- Photorealistic images and photo manipulation are not allowed. This applies to photorealistic AI-generated art as well.
Disclaimers
Please note that the DJB and Herald staff do not currently create images for characters in any official capacity. If you happen to find your character in any official DJB artwork, you may use that image if it does not violate any of the above bullet points.
- The Herald staff reserves the right to remand any image based on the criteria listed on this page as well as the suitability of said image. Any image deemed offensive or otherwise inflammatory will be remanded. Repeated offenses may be referred to the Justicar’s office for review.
- Remands should never be viewed as a personal attack. The Herald staff is here to help you and to ensure that you have the quality avatar that you deserve. If your avatar is remanded and/or if you otherwise require assistance to meet the requirements listed above, please email the current Herald office staff.
- The Herald staff reserves the right to investigate if there is reasonable doubt concerning the source of the image. Cases of stolen artwork may be referred to the Justicar’s office for review.
- The Herald Staff, Grand Master, and Deputy Grand Master reserve the right to upload non-standard custom images in place of avatars for the purpose of special events, occasional jokes, dunce-caps for serial policy violators, etc.
