The ''Instigator'' first entered Imperial service some two months after the end of the Clone Wars, acting as a cargo inspection vessel in the Coruscant system. The Empire later transferred the ship to the backwater Kwymar Sector, due to the political misfortune of its commander, to aid in the suppression of Rebel and other criminal elements. There it would remain for the remainder of the Galactic Civil War, falling under the control of the warlord Harssk after Endor, and then the Imperial Remnant with his death at Tsoss Beacon.

The warship carries its full complement of starfighters and support craft, both that it may respond to threats forcibly, and to assist in the ongoing planetary reconstruction efforts.
