The Monitor is a EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate serving as part of Command Force Aurek in Clan Plagueis' Ascendant Fleet.

History

The Monitor was purchased following losses to the Ascendant fleet in 34 ABY, following substantial losses to the Ascendant Fleet. Restructured and with rushed efforts made to replace its losses, it came to serve as a means of bolstering the firepower of the fleet's new primary command group. It would join its allied ships in a series of vital battles in shaping Clan Plagueis' future, first against the Iron Forces that were bent upon their destruction and then The Collective.

Characteristics

Originally created by the Galactic Empire as a means to counter the Rebel Alliance's starfighter raids, The Nebulon-B series frigate ironically largely end up in Rebel hands after being rendered obsolete. At three-hundred meters in length, the frigate is noteworthy for its twin-modular design connected by a single supporting spar. While a noted weak point for concentrated torpedo attacks, this design substantially reduced construction costs when it came to the design along with its mass. This allowed the class to be highly efficient in its multi-role duties, as it was expected to cover everything from tasks as a command ship to smaller battle groups to service as a light carrier. To this end, the Nebulon-B frigate can carry a single fighter squadron into battle, serving to compliment its twelve heavy turbolaser turrets, and twelve anti-fighter laser turrets. Carrying two tractor beams for further duties, it had few shortcomings in maneverability, speed, or hull and shield strength, but few areas in which it truly stood out.

The frigate required a crew of six-hundred-and-fifteen personnel to effectively pilot the ship and operate its complement of weapons. This left room for a further seventy-five passengers or troops, and could carry six thousand tons of cargo.

Role

The Monitor forms a part of the primary battle line alongside the larger warships of Battle Group Aurek. While leaving the core of the anti-fighter screen duties to the smaller Raider II-class Corvettes, its primary turbolasers and weaponry serves in support of taking down larger warships and taking advantage of openings presented in enemy targets.
