Hiset Tval is a young, troubled Trandoshan Jedi learner. A former slave who was liberated by Clan Odan-Urr, he now serves as the student of Sa Ool and a member of Zirael.
Character History
Early Life
Although not born into slavery, Hiset has known very little of anything else for as long as he could rememeber. Born into the elusive and prestigious Shadowscale clan on Trandosha, Hiset's parents were murdered by slavers serving the Hutt Cartel leaving their child to be captured and raised in slavery.
Having spent most of his life in the service of his Hutt master's Rodian majordomo, everything that he knows was learned on the Smuggler's moon. His own name is included in that. It was given to him because it was close enough to Trandoshan but the Rodian could still pronounce it. Due to the abusive conditions that Hiset and the other slaves were forced to live, he learned at a young age to do as commanded and to keep his mouth closed. For 17 years of his life, Hiset Tval knew little-to-nothing about the world outside of his Master's reach. That changed for the first time when Hiset Tval was put on the auction block when a human spice mine operator purchased Hiset and a few of his fellow slaves to be workers in his mines. Unknown to the slaves at the time, the mine operator was an ally of the Dark Jedi Brotherhood, and he had been being tracked by the Jedi organization the Acolytes of Odan-Urr, now known as Clan Odan-Urr for a while.
After a small space skirmish, the shuttle housing the new slaves was disabled and a Jedi and his platoon of soldiers boarded and captured the slaver and his guards. The old, grizzled Jedi was a survivor of the Clone Wars and the Jedi Purge at the hands of Darth Vader and the Empire. While transporting the slaves back to Clan Odan-Urr's headquarters of New Tython, the Jedi sensed the latent potential looming inside of the young Trandoshan and after a series of tests decided to bring him to the Arca Praxeum to initiate him into the Jedi Order and his first steps towards becoming a Jedi Knight.
Introduction to the Jedi Order
After being escorted to the Arca Praxeum by his liberator, the young hopeful was run through a series of examinations and tests to determine whether or not he would be fit for the Jedi Order and more specifically this sect called the Acolytes of Odan-Urr. The Acolytes described themselves as an organization made up of Jedi trying to reestablish the Jedi Order's foundations and commit fundamentals of their creed.
After weeks of mental, physical and emotionally strenuous tests Hiset Tval was inducted into the Jedi Order as an apprentice. This was the first time that he was introduced to some members of Clan Odan-Urr that would go on to be very influential in his career. Jedi such as his future master Sa Ool were among the first instructors he was introduced to as a student. The level that Hiset learned and retained information was comparable to some of the greatest Jedi that the order has ever seen. The young Trandoshan was on track to match some of the youngest knighted Jedi in terms of how long it took them to achieve the rank. A lot of Tval's success was given credit to his compassion. Due to his history as a slave, he wanted to help everyone he could. He didn't want anyone to feel the pain that he was forced to endure for seventeen years of his life.
Character Description
Personality
Living majority of his life as a slave, Hiset is a rather quiet person. He doesn’t open up unless he feels he can fully trust you. All he has ever known in his life is the hate and contempt for his slave masters, which he is openly trying to combat under the teachings of the Jedi and their code. However, never having actually been able to see the world outside of Nar Shaddaa, where he was enslaved, never allowed for Hiset to develop skills to combat these emotions within him. He is having trouble dealing with his hatred for slavers and Imperial remnants after the death of the Jedi who recruited him to the Order at the hands of Imperials.
Appearance
Standing at roughly 1.8 meters tall and weighing around 84 kilograms, Hiset Tval is a bit lighter than the average Trandoshan. Because of this, he has a bit of a gaunt, skeletal look to him that he owes to a lifetime of slavery where he never had the pleasure of overindulging in food and had to scrape by with the bare minimum to keep himself alive.
Hiset’s most distinguishing feature is generally mentioned to be his skin color. While majority of known Trandoshan are yellow or greenish, Hiset proudly wears the grey scales that his clan was named after. Along his face are yellowish-orange stripes that run parallel from the sides of his nose to his ears every few inches. On the top of his grey head is a single, short mohawk-like frill that run down the direct center of his scalp.
Possessions and Gear
Largely due to a lifetime of not owning much as a slave, Hiset has never had a deep connection to any sort of possessions. He is often found simply wearing the standard brown-and-cream Jedi robes that are given to you once you’re accepted into the order. His hooded robes are generally cover his entire body with enough slack so that he doesn’t feel restricted in his combat, acrobatic, and force training. Generally the only article of clothing he doesn’t wear would be boots because of his large three-toed feet that were protected by scales toughened by years of travel.
As he has not passed his trials to earn himself a lightsaber yet, Hiset is often found using simple bladed weapons, specifically his favorite the Double Vibroblade which he used in pair with his brute strength to generally overpower most of his opponents. He often prefers melee-bladed weapons, but when he is forced to use ranged weapons and has a choice of what to use his choice is usually a slugthrower specifically a Cycler Rifle
