The Kraken is a heavily modified Minstrel-Class Space Yacht that serves as the personal corvette of Morgan B. Sorenn, corsair and crime boss in the Shroud Syndicate. Originally a luxury vessel, it has been reshaped into a fearsome and ruthless raider.
History

Originally used as a pleasure craft for the elite of Nal Hutta, The Kraken was once the prized possession of the powerful Hutt crime lord, Duke Saatjeekah Shurag Besh, an eccentric and ruthless fence and collector. It was a status symbol, hosting extravagant gatherings and clandestine negotiations between crime families, pirates, and smugglers alike. However, as the political tides shifted within Hutt Space, the vessel found itself at the center of a power struggle between rival criminal factions, mostly due to Saatjeekah’s debts.
Morgan B. Sorenn, seeking to once again cement her rise within the Outer Rim underworld, orchestrated the downfall of Saatjeekah’s key rival, Cerean Black Sun Vigo Molos Luk — a move that both destabilized the local presence of Saatjeekah’s rival syndicate and forced the Hutt into a vulnerable position of being in her debt, one which Morgan seized on. His major rival wiped, and his profit prospects restored, Saatjeekah could either thank his would-be ally and shower her with gifts, thus showing his power and generosity, or follow a similar fate as his rival did. The Force user was not someone he was willing to anger, and she was plenty angry already. She took the ship as a generous gift and proceeded to modify it to her own needs.
Following the ship's acquisition, it underwent extensive modifications, stripping away some of its original opulence and reinforcing it for combat and smuggling operations. The once-grand halls became war rooms and armories covered in spoils from many raids. Though some things remained the same, like the compartments holding illicit goods for the Hutt's guests, others like the Hutt’s personal modifications were stripped and sold off to make room for more practical effects.
Under Sorenn’s command, The Kraken has played a role in numerous criminal enterprises, including high-profile raids, blockade running, and assassination operations. It has gone toe-to-toe with rival syndicates, bounty hunters, The Collective, and even The Children of Mortis.
Physical description

The Kraken's hull is painted a carmine red, making it a recognizable presence anywhere it sails. The former chromium trim and gold paint still pokes out here and there, wherever the new coat has been damaged. Grey and gold accents still cover the hull, with certain panels being unpainted or purposefully discolored. Battle damage is visible along the hull, with carbon scoring from blaster fire and patchwork armor plating reinforcing weakened sections.
Mounted to the prow, a colossal skull of a leviathan Krayt dragon is both a trophy and a threat. Its hollowed-out sockets seem to stare through the cold void, a grim harbinger of the ship’s intent. Some say that when The Kraken powers up its weapons, the glow of its forward cannons flickers within the skull’s maw, making it appear as though the long-dead beast still hungers.
Every viewport aboard Kraken is tinted an eerie orange, as if the ship itself watches with glowing, predatory eyes. The bridge’s main viewport is reinforced with angular durasteel plating, giving it the shape of a narrowed gaze, an unsettling effect that makes the ship look alive.
Weapons & Enhancements
While the original Minstrel-Class was designed as an unarmed civilian craft, Kraken bristles with concealed firepower.
- Six Heavy Turbolasers: Mounted on retractable hardpoints, these provide devastating firepower in ship-to-ship combat.
- Six Ion Cannons: Used to disable enemy shields and systems, ideal for capturing rather than destroying vessels.
- Six Laser Turrets: Strategically placed for point-defense against starfighters and boarding craft.
- Tractor Beam Projector: Used to immobilize enemy ships or secure valuable salvage.
- Boarding Clamps: Reinforced clamps that anchor onto enemy hulls during boarding operations.
- EMP Discharge Device: Emits a powerful electromagnetic pulse capable of disabling any vessel smaller than a corvette within close proximity.
- Starfighter Hangar: Houses 4 heavily modified Cutlass-9 Patrol Fighters, Corsair squadron, equipped for interception, reconnaissance, and escort duties.
- Modified Sublight Engines: Custom engines outfitted with high-performance components for superior sublight speed and maneuverability, allowing the ship to outpace nearly any rival raids or patrols.
Engines & Exhaust Trails
The ship’s sublight engines have been heavily modified, giving it an aggressive forward thrust that allows for rapid acceleration. When fully engaged, they burn with an ethereal blue-green glow, a side effect of the high-energy fuel mix used to boost speed.
In Kraken’s wake, it often leaves behind a faint trail of ionized red and gold gas, an unintentional but fitting effect that adds to its haunting reputation. Some spacers claim that when seen from afar, this trail resembles the curling tendrils of the Fire-Kraken emblem on its hull, as if the beast itself is dragging the ship through the void.
Atmosphere & Presence
When Kraken emerges from hyperspace, it does so like a phantom ship, its blood-red hull casting an eerie silhouette against the void. The ship is both a declaration and a death sentence; those who recognize it understand that escape is unlikely, and resistance only prolongs the inevitable.
It does not stalk its prey silently. Before striking, it often broadcasts a haunting, distorted signal, an old pirate ballad warped by static and layered with whispers in multiple languages. Some say it’s a deliberate psychological weapon, while others claim it is something more sinister—a spectral echo of the ship’s bloody history.
Whatever the truth, one thing remains certain: to see Kraken approaching is to know that the hunt has begun.
Modifications
Once designed for luxury and comfort, the Minstrel-Class Space Yacht has been radically transformed to serve its new pirate masters. While some of its original grandeur remains, it has been repurposed for function and intimidation, blending opulence with the rough-and-tumble life of a starborne raider crew.
The Captain’s Quarters (Former King's Suite)

Once the most lavish room aboard the vessel, the captain’s quarters have been changed significantly based on its owner’s tastes. Split by a heavy curtain into a private section only accessible to the Captain, and an area for guests and officers where she handles visits and officer meetings.
The private area has a newly bought silk-covered bed, several high-society furniture pieces Some of the Hutt-sized furniture, fixtures and fittings have been fenced for gilded pieces more suitable for humans. Cheap gray lockers have been added for more storage, contrasting harshly with the opulence around them. The massive wooden table dominating the is cluttered with datapads, star charts, and weapons.
The walls display blasters, vibroblades, and plundered relics—helmets of fallen bounty hunters, pieces of noble insignia, or lightsabers mounted as trophies. A repurposed transparisteel display case houses rare artifacts, spice canisters, and valuables too precious to sell.
The captain keeps a selection of weapons within reach—blaster pistols, vibrocutlasses, lightsabers, Sith swords and other blades, as well as a disrupter rifle. The room is lined with secret storage units for contraband, emergency credit chits, and a fast-access escape tunnel to a concealed launch pod.
The War Room (Former Dining Hall)
Once a place for elegant feasts, the former dining hall has become the nerve center of the ship’s operations. A cracked but functional strategy table dominates the room, displaying live star maps, intercepted transmissions, and potential targets.
The long banquet table remains, though it’s now littered with ration packs, half-empty bottles of various beverages, and game pieces from sabacc matches. The noble dining chairs have been replaced with a mix of stolen seating, some mismatched and battle-worn. Here, the pirate crew convenes to plot their next raid, review enemy movements, or settle disputes in tense, high-stakes games of chance or fights.
The Crew Quarters (Former Passenger Suites)
Gone are the soft beds and polished floors; the once-luxurious suites have been stripped down for pirate life. Some rooms retain cushioned sleeping arrangements, but most have been converted into stacked bunks or crude hammocks slung from durasteel beams. Each pirate personalizes their space with trinkets—scarred helmets, holo-images of fallen comrades, charms from homeworlds long left behind.
Gear is often strewn about, with footlockers overflowing with stolen credits, weapons, and personal trophies. A makeshift weapons rack stands in each room, ensuring a quick grab-and-go response to boarding actions.
The Brig (Converted Storage Hold)
The former high-security cargo bay now serves as a prison for hostages, captured officers, and unlucky survivors. Cells are hastily assembled from repurposed security doors, fitted with low-power force fields. Prisoners are kept under constant watch, sometimes restrained in shock cuffs if deemed too dangerous.
The lighting is always flickering, at best, and the smell of oil and old ration packs lingers. Pirates don’t waste resources on comfort; prisoners are given minimal food and only enough water to keep them alive.
A side room houses an interrogation setup—electro-prods, mind-probes, and old-fashioned intimidation methods are used to extract information or negotiate ransoms.
The Cargo Hold & Smuggler’s Bay
A vital section of the ship, this is where stolen goods, spice shipments, and illegal cargo are stored before being offloaded to fences or crime lords. Crates marked with Republic, Corporate Sector, or Cartel insignias are stacked high, waiting for resale. Some containers hold rare spices, high-grade weapons, or even stolen ship parts.
Hidden behind durasteel bulkheads and false floors, several compartments keep the most valuable contraband out of sight from visitors and boarders. An area of the hold has been converted into a rough machine shop, where astromechs and engineers work to keep the ship battle-ready.
The Mess Hall & Recreation Area (Former Lounge & Ballroom)

Once a place for refined gatherings, this space now serves as the heart of the crew’s off-duty life. A salvaged bar unit dispenses cheap liquor and whatever the pirates have managed to steal. Makeshift seating—ranging from high-end bar stools to repurposed shipping crates—gives the place a chaotic yet lived-in feel.
A corner of the lounge has been converted into a gambling spot, with sabacc tables, holo-darts, and a pit for high-stakes knife fights or bare-knuckle brawls. An old but functional holo-vid projector plays grainy recordings of underground races, banned fight matches, or occasional propaganda messages that the crew mocks. A beat-up sound system blares raucous pirate shanties or battle anthems before raids.
The Engineering Deck (Former Luxury Maintenance Bay)
This section has become the ship’s beating heart, kept running by a mix of skilled mechanics and droids. The hyperdrive has been souped-up, with modifications pushing it past factory limits. The shielding system is patched with scavenged parts, creating an uneven but surprisingly resilient defense.
The walls are lined with exposed wiring, jury-rigged consoles, and tools scattered across workbenches. Grease-stained pirates move through the area, keeping the engines humming. The ship’s power core pulses with an eerie blue glow, occasionally flickering from unstable energy flow due to all the unauthorized modifications.
