Command Structure and Ranking
The Scholae Palatinae military is led by 7 war councillors responsible for the Marine Corps, the Imperial Scholae Guard, the Expeditionary Force, the Praetorian Guard, the Fleet, the Fighter Corps, and Imperial Scholae Intelligence. The war councillors are typically Dark Jedi of Clan Scholae Palatinae. The arms of the military are categorised into the Ground Forces, the Imperial Navy, and the Intelligence.
Ground Forces
The ground forces consist of the Marine Corps (led by the Commandant), the Imperial Scholae Guard which deals with ground defence (led by the Surface Marshal), the Expeditionary Force that deals with out-of-system battles (led by the Field Marshal), and the Praetorian Guard tasked with the protection of the Emperor (led by the Captain of the Guard).
The command structure of the ground forces is linear, with the Generals falling in place directly behind their respective War Councillor. The Generals typically do not venture on to the field of battle, and are the primary tacticians of the army. They are comprised of the most experienced soldiers in the ground forces. Generals are in command of a division of four regiments, which are commanded by a Colonel.
Each regiment is divided into four legions, led by a Major. The Majors are typically the highest rank that venture out into the field of battle on a regular basis. Each legion is a fully functional versatile fighting force, with heavy vehicles, scouts, snipers, infantry and artillery under its command. Majors also have the opportunity to request the support of Special Agents from the ISI. A legion is made up of a number of companies, led by a Captain.
Companies are more focused units excelling in a particular area. While the majority of companies are infantry based, there are also companies for all areas of warfare, including vehicular support. Companies are formed from a number of platoons, led by a Lieutenant, which in turn consisted of squads, led by a Sergeant. An infantry squad typically consisted of 10 troops of the ranks of Private and Corporal (for Marine and Expeditionary) or Guard and Senior Guard (for Praetorian and Scholae Guard). Other squads varied in size according to their task.
Dark Jedi exist outside of the typical command structure. Those of the rank of Elder or above can assume command of an entire legion, and is entitled to the rank of General for military matters. Equite 3 or higher may assume the title of Major, and may commandeer units of company or lower. Any Equite can claim the title of Captain and take command of a Platoon. Dark Jedi Knights can take the title of Lieutenant, and command a squad. Journeymen are not given direct command of soldiers, but may request the use of a squad from the relevant platoon Lieutenant.

Imperial Navy
The Imperial Navy contains two arms of the military: the Fighter Corps, led by the Ace Admiral, and the Fleet, led by the Grand Admiral. The Ace Admiral deals with the small starfighters at the command of the clan, while the Grand Admiral is tasked with the command of the larger fleets, and is commands the largest ship in the navy, the NSD Dark Paladin.
Admirals the the Naval equivalent of the General and typically command the largest ships in the Navy, or in the case of the Fighter corps, they command corps consisting of two divisions. Admirals are supported by their second in command, the Vice Admiral.
One down from the Admirals are the Captain, who in the Fleet, command medium-sized ships with the assistance of a Commander or assist with the command of ships led by an Admiral, or in the Fighter Corps, command a division of two or more wings, each led by a Wing Commander. A wing is composed of three squadrons
Lieutenants are the lowest rank which command their own ships in the fleet. Lieutenants are assisted by Ensigns. In the Corps, the equivalent rank is squad leader, which command a squadron. Squadrons are made of a number of flight teams of four fighter pilots led by an Ace Pilot. The lowest ranks in the Navy are the Cadets, who are mostly students training for a role as an Ensign.
Dark Jedi exist outside of the typical command structure. Those of the rank of Elder or above can assume command of a capital ship or division, and is entitled to the rank of Admiral for military matters. Equite 3 or higher may assume the title of Captain, and may commandeer medium sized ships or a division. Any Equite can claim the title of Commander and take command of a wing. Dark Jedi Knights can take the title of Lieutenant or Squad leader, and command a squad. Journeymen are not given direct command of the fleet, but may request the use of a squad from the relevant Wing Commander.

Intelligence
The unique structure of Imperial Scholae Intelligence is reflective of its unique role in the clan military and large number of non-combat personnel. Eschewing the traditional linear rank structure, ranks within ISI are more descriptive of the individual’s role and speciality. The supreme commander of ISI is the Director General, code-named M. The ISI operates in the shadows, and very little of its command structure is known to the general public. The ISI is divided into operatives, who handle the field work, analysts, who maintain a consistent body of up-to-date information, and technicians, who ensure the maintenance and development of physical assets.
Agents make up the bulk of the operatives, and are recruited directly from the ground forces. Typically battle-proven soldiers yet to master the arts of subterfuge, agents are tasked with easier, less sensitive missions, such as theft and observation. Special agents are hand picked from the agents, and are trusted with more complex and dangerous tasks, such as sabotage and counter-terrorism. Finally, the Cipher Agents title is given only to the ten greatest operatives within the ISI. They are known only by their Cipher designation, e.g., Cipher Seven. The Ciphers are used sparingly and only for the most important of tasks, such as assassination of high profile targets. The Ciphers were under the command of only the Director General. Dark Jedi were also occasionally used as operatives at the request of M for missions only a Force user was capable of, although they still only answer to the Emperor.
Analysts made up the greatest number of ISI personnel and were typically recruited from the general public, from a diverse background of ex-business managers to software engineers. Analysts were tasked with obtaining information from the safety of the ISI offices. Their main tasks involved background research, hacking enemy systems, and analysis of information gained by the operatives. A senior analyst was promoted to the title of Watcher, who lead teams of analysts. They maintained a feedback loop with the operatives, in which analysts provided mission-specific intelligence intelligence to the operatives, and the operatives fed back information obtained on the mission. The analysts were managed by an individual code-named A. A is the only analyst with the responsibility of guiding Dark Jedi in the field.
Technicians are the scientists, engineers and mechanics. They are scientists recruited from civilian universities. They develop the advanced computer systems required by the analysts and the specialist weaponry and gadgets required by the operatives, including bioweapons, bombs, camouflage and exploding pens. Successful inventions are also sometimes employed by the rest of the military. Senior technicians are promoted to the rank of Fixer, who lead teams of technicians. The technicians are lead by an individual named Q, who was typically Scholae Palatinae’s greatest scientist.
