The Vidar and the Vali are sister ships in the service of the Shadow Academy. They operate primarily as specialized training vessels, though they have been militarized and are capable of engaging in combat operations. They are two of the longest serving vessels in the Shadow Academy ship, being in its service for over five years and surviving through three great wars.
Originally pirate ships under different names, the Vidar and Vali were foolish enough to follow a shuttle to the Shroud, hoping to find raiding targets. Easily disabled by Clan Tarentum, the ships were put under the command of the Shadow Academy at the request of Headmaster Anshar Kahn Tarentae. They were renamed; their arnaments and shielding augmented, and turned into training platforms for new members, specifically border patrol, interdiction, and boarding operations. During the Evacuation of Lyspair, the two freighters were loaded with important texts, artifacts, and supplies from the Shadow Academy. Both escaped the Yuuzhan Vong, and started acting as scout and transports for the Shadow Academy. During the Brotherhood's return to Antei, the ships provided transport between the various capital ships engaged in orbit.
